Re: CPR H-16-44 scrapped

That's a shame.? The Ingalls diesel looked cool.

CPR H-16-44 scrapped

Hello
I read a few months ago in a Rapido Trains online newsletter that the ex Canadian Pacific H-16-44 8554 was scrapped.? Other websites said this was done on-site along with two FM C-Liner B units at an old natural gas plant near Mazeppa, Alberta.? It's sad news, and I though I searched for news stories of these locomotives being saved at the last minute, I believe they are gone now.? Does anybody know how organizations like Heritage Park in Calgary, or the Alberta Railway Museum in Namao let this happen?

Re: closure of Canadian Locomotive Company

If you can find a copy, the book 'Constructed In Kingston: A History of the Canadian Locomotive Companies' is THE authoritive book about it all.? Unfortunately mine is packed away but I seem to recall that it wasn't any one thing that brought the company down. Shifting markets, labour unrest, parent company FM fighting a hostile takeover, etc all conspired against it.

Re: CLC in 1972 Canadian Rail

Thanks Martin!? Saved.? Love those CPR C-liners.

Pruufreeding!

MR just arrived. ?Review of the new Atlas Train Master. ?Headline got it right as two words and the FM model number. ?Hooray!

Then the article calls it an H26-44. ?

Aaaargh!!

Looks good, but I never expected to see one in Chihuahua Pacifico paint.? As far as I know, CH-P only had H-16-44s.

CLC in 1972 Canadian Rail

Hello

I found an interesting article about Canadian Locomotive Company in a 1972 issue of Canadian Rail.? It has several pictures of CPR FM-design units.? Here's the link:??

? ? ?It also will take you to the complete index of pdf scanned issues of Canadian Rail from the late Charles Cooper's Railway Pages.? He died earlier this year.? I'm not sure how much longer these files will be here, so enjoy!

Re: CP H-24-66 designation

CPR #8901-8904 had the two OK-4625 steam generators in the short wide hood (the hood was full width of the locomotive).? They were classified as DRS-24b as they were in the second batch or TM's ordered.? The documents in my collection only refer to them as H24-66's.

Two questions

I may be late on this, but if any of you get your hands on the new Rapido H16-44, please let us know what you think.

Bert¡¯s question from May hasn¡¯t been answered, unless someone responded to him directly. ?Good question. ?I haven¡¯t found the answer¡yet. ?

CP H-24-66 designation

Does anyone know the specific designation for the Trainmasters that CP owned which had the dual
train heaters in the longer cabs? Maybe H-24-66dh?
Thanks

closure of Canadian Locomotive Company

Hello,

I found this accidentally looking for information on the Canadian licensee of F-M, Canadian Locomotive Company.

Other histories I've read make it seem like the company quietly died for lack of customers.? The Wikipedia page for CLC says they had labor unrest, sabotage, and even a crash involving the shop switcher.? Parent company F-M pulled the plug in 1969.

California State Railroad Museum. Sacramento, Ca. And I¡¯ve never seen any comment about it, but when I asked the Museum Director about it he stated it¡¯s in their ¡°future restoration¡± list. At that time he wouldn¡¯t let me back to see it, but he said if I set up an appointment in the future I might get access to it. But that was in 2003 or so.

I can't find it.? Also I'm a but confused, there is a California State Railroad Museum and a Southern California Railroad Museum.? The Southern California one has an H-12-44, I was able to re-locate an interesting video about it.? They swapped injectors with a friendly company that overhauled US Navy equipment, so that locomotive runs now.

Re: New member

Hi Bert

Canadian units only had 3 fans because almost all of them had small engines-? 1600hp, not 2000 or 2400.? Only the 2400hp Trainmasters with 4 fans.? I suspect the climate had something to do with it, too-? those engines weren't going to cross the Sonora desert!
