If you can find a copy, the book 'Constructed In Kingston: A History of the Canadian Locomotive Companies' is THE authoritive book about it all.? Unfortunately mine is packed away but I seem to recall that it wasn't any one thing that brought the company down. Shifting markets, labour unrest, parent company FM fighting a hostile takeover, etc all conspired against it.
