CynthiakmART NEWs & NOTEs 6
Hello friends, artists, and art collectors! Welcome to Spring! Since I last communicated, I have been artistically engaged with numerous projects. First, my studio is moving beginning April 15, 2023. 307 East Annandale Rd, Falls Church Va. 22042 Studio 209 My hours are regularly irregular, so PLEASE call first if you plan to stop by. I will still be only 15 minutes away to meet you if I am not there when you surprise visit! Appointments are appreciated! There is free & ample parking available. Remember my number is 703-615-7429. SPRING JURIED SHOWINGS Artists in Middleburg, Spring in the Piedmont Exhibition April 8-May 7, 2023 102 W Washington Street 20117 Open Noon Wed-Sunday 540-687-6600 https://theartistsinmiddleburg.org. Flora Fauna a lovely framed piece in the show. ¡°Flora Fauna¡±, shows hints of swirling flowers and mystical greens but never really claims any particular flowers or greens. The show is available on their website. Art at the Mill ¨C 15 Tannery Lane, Millwood, Virginia 22646 www.Spring2023ArtattheMill.org Beginning 4/22 through 5/7 -Sunday through Friday 12-5 PM and 10 AM-5 PM on Saturdays. The show is available on the Millwood webpage, with artists listed alphabetically since it is a very large show. My two pieces in this show include: ¡°In the Cloud A¡± and ¡°It¡¯s Complicated,¡± both acrylic on wood. I was seeing little square compartments dutifully filing into the IT cloud for Cloud and ¡°It¡¯s Complicated¡± represents numerous layers (15+) of figuring out what it wanted to be and finally made it home. I think we have all been there. Falls Church Arts ¨C 700-B West Broad Street, Falls Church 22042 The show will be in two parts over two months. Artists alphabet A-K 4/27-5/25 and Artist L-Z 5/27-6/25 Reception for artists L-Z reception will be 5/27 Hope to see you there! This is an all-member show (not a juried show). As many of you know, most of my work stems from memories, emotions or feelings current or past. The work I have chosen for this show falls under the ¡°imaginative realism¡± category which is less common than most of my work of straight abstract. The title, ¡°My Secret Garden¡± originates from my memories of my New Jersey childhood. We lived on an acre of land my parents gardened to the fullest and it was adjacent to a vacant field. This field was the source of many summer days of making secret paths through out as I always searched for small bugs and butterflies in my ¡°hidden¡± rooms of flattened tall grasses. The sun in this work is in defiance of my first art instructor who told me I used (at age 6) too many ¡®suns¡¯ in my paintings which greatly dampened my desire to continue with art at that age. Until my next update, happy art viewing! All the best, Cynthia

Greetings all! I¡¯m getting in touch to see whether you have any solid recommendations for excellent business writing instructors/trainers. The audience would be for a small local association. Looking for facilitator / consultant with DEIA background 4
Ladies, I'm slammed with work as usual, but wanted to reach out to you on this! Last May, I identified and responded to an RFI on behalf of JMA Solutions, for a BPA for management of the NASA Early Stage Innovation Partnerships (ESIP) Program. This program manages the SBIR / STTR and other programs for NASA. After they made the down-select, I helped and coached them through the proposal and orals, and they were one of six companies awarded the BPA. Overall $24.5 million. Now, NASA has issued the first task, which is for a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) analysis of the program. JMA and their subcontractor are putting together a quick turnaround response. So -- the long pole on this is of course staffing. If you know anyone who would be a good fit to participate in such a project, let me know ASAP and I will get them in contact with the folks writing the proposal. I think they have a fairly good shot at it although they are not the incumbent. (I'm hoping my role isn't large as I have too many other things going on to do much.) It's a very exciting program. Survey tool 5
Hi ladies, My recollection is that we had some discussion in the last year about survey tools. Survey Monkey is now $99/month for individual monthly plans. If I¡¯m getting ready to do a one-time survey of about 200 people, and if money is tight, is there a better tool to consider or should I just bite the bullet and go with Survey Monkey? Steering clear of spam folders!? 3
Hi All! The time has come to tap your collective wisdom and experience. My emails have been landing in spam folders increasingly of late and I'm not able to detect any pattern. Here are two very different examples that occurred this week: An Outlook evite containing a Zoom link ended up in an association client's folder. (She requested the meeting.) This happened twice. I used a different email address to suggest that she check her spam folder where she located both of them. A regular Comcast email containing three .pdf proposal attachments (not large ones). Client had originally said she'd send a confirmation and she didn't. I phoned her and she reported that the email was in her spam folder. Has anyone else detected this trend? Is there something I could be doing differently? I know I could ask for "return receipt." However, many find that annoying! Thanks! Need honest feedback - does this video feel and sound like me? 8
Hi, A networking group I'm in, neXco, offered a free video shoot, so I took them up on it. I had to write a script and then they shot it while I used the teleprompter. I had never done that before. Here's the link. It's only about a minute long. https://player.vimeo.com/video/766080214?h=4d849bab39&badge=0&autopause=0&player_id=0&app_id=58479 Please give me an honest opinion. Does it look/sound like me? Does it feel authentic? Really? Honestly? Is it something you would recommend that I use in my marketing? I ask you because I think you will give me an honest opinion. I need to test my email.. 2
Greetings All, If you have a moment, could you send an email to lazarholbrookandassociates@.... Once you do so, could you let me know if it's bounced back to you. A client sent me emails on Friday, Saturday, and just now and all three were returned as undeliverable (one was a reply to an email I'd sent). I'm having her send me the "bounce back" message. I've been receiving emails via this email address for others. There was a reported Comcast problem about two weeks ago that affected this email address and none of the others my husband and I have on this account. I'm inclined to think it's a problem on her end. Many thanks! Clark County event....aka Art at the Mill 3
Ok ladies, just letting you know I have 3 pieces in Art at the Mill starting 10/1-10/16 in Millwood. You can best check them out on line <https://artatthemillfall2022.artcall/pages/web-gallery> I am also at The Artists in Middleburg until the end of the month. Last but not least I found out today I am in the Falls Church Arts next show (Scapes) starting mid October. Like the other two, is a juried show however the competition for this one was pretty steep since they had close to 200 applicants and 50 were chosen....smile Title: Whispering Clouds...it is definitely an abstract "scape' and one of my larger pieces 36x36. I am moving my studio in the next week from Studio "L" to Studio "C" around the corner where I actually have an over hanging light to brighten up my studio and you can see my work when the lights are out and I am not painting. I had a piece selected by the Art League for the Art on the Rocks event in Old Town last week. My painting, "Exuberance" was paired with a Makers Mark cocktail and we won the popular vote that evening ...It was great fun. That's it for now....just having fun doing my thing. Cynthia

Brainstorming with you about an upcoming "Hybrid" event 9
Hi Ladies! I have an upcoming Construction Partnering project whereby I hope you can share some wisdom and ideas. What started out to be a 100% virtual event has evolved into a hybrid event whereby about 70% of the participants will be in 1 room together on 1 device and the rest will be virtual. I will be virtual. There are lots of challenges here, so I've asked for a couple of participants to help me gauge the room. Sigh... The original plan encompasses individual work and about 5 breakouts over 2 days. The breakouts must include a mixture of those on-site and virtual. Originally, I was going to use Mural to capture the work, yet each participant will not have a laptop during the session. There are issues with bandwidth, so the plan is for 1 laptop per breakout group--and they are worried about the bandwidth for that. Sigh... So, I'm trying to identify creative solutions to still have an engaging event without being in the room and being inclusive with both in-person and virtual participants. I see using something like Mentimeter for consensus checks (I hope they have the mobile data power for that). I feel that Mural has too much of a learning curve to only use it for the Breakouts. The participants include members of the military, so I'm not sure they can use Google Docs. Plus, I'll need to get links to the person typing on the 1 laptop for the breakout group. I can't rely on Chat to get instructions to the in-person group, so will probably rely on slides instead. I can't rely on using walls when the camera will be stationary in the room. Sigh... At the end, I have to obtain their commitment to the Partnering Charter. If we were all in-person, they would physically sign the Charter. When Virtual, they place their pic/name on the Charter. And, of course, time is limited to get a lot done, but I see the need for lots of buffers to allow for transitions and such. Sigh... So, do you have any innovative ideas? I sure would appreciate your sage advice! Thank you so much! Dawn

Prospective client wants me to bid under 8a Direct rules 9
All, I have a prospective government client who was referred to me for a team building and coaching project. This is a senior executive at HUD. She found me through someone she knows. We talked a few times and I know she is looking at two other firms. I'm partnering with Kristine Wood on this. This prospect wants to move forward quickly for some coaching, team building, and culture assessment (which would be handled by Kristine) and had originally planned to use the government credit card for an initial project. So I submitted a proposal. She really likes what we proposed, but after talking to her procurement office (we both know she should have done this FIRST), they decided the most expedient way to get this moving is to do it as an 8a Direct project. I'm not an 8a firm and don't know anyone who has an 8a firm. I need to figure out if there is a way for me to partner with an 8a firm who would let me bid under their contract, or if I simply need to give this up and tell her we won't be able to bid. I'm also not registered in SAM, although Kristine is. And I'm not a WOSB - certified Women Owned Small Business. And I don't know (and don't want to learn) all the government procurement processes is why I don't do government work. But since she seems to really resonate with what we had proposed, I hate to just let it go. Any suggestions? Linda -- Linda Howard, CVF, PMP, CMC* Howard Consulting, LLC LHoward@...
