Re: Random factory reset
Pull fuses and re-seat them several times - blade fuses are self-wiping when you do this. Why? Fuses? will get oxides on the blades that will cause? voltage drops. I have witnessed this myself. Lee KX4TT

Re: Random factory reset
Too bad a simple Reed-Solomon subroutine, built in, couldn’t solve this dilemena. /s/ Richard _________ On Fri, Jan 31, 2025 at 1:05?PM ZL4IV via <cathar.gnostic=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Random factory reset
Most well written software has what is called a hook routine where if the processor encounters? corrupted data it jumps to a safe start point rather than lockup with no way out. I suspect in the case of the 857 it is the non volatile part of the software where it will reload the factory default. The volatile part part of software can be corrupted by RF getting into the radio, common mode currents etc. Doing a reset is a good thing although it's annoying but warns you there is possibly an external problem. Re: Random factory reset
Typical mobile installation. 12v direct from the battery/ground. Remote head. No tuner. Only connected (at the time) for vhf/uhf. Been installed like this since July of last year and no problems. Rotate it the radio b/t three vehicles and last programmed it via CHIRP 5 years ago and never saw anything like this before. |
Random factory reset
While driving yesterday and monitoring my 857d, it randomly performed a factory reset without any input from me whatsoever. I contacted Yaesu and they asked if I used CHIRP to program it and they indicated that can cause problem, even years later. While I did use CHIRP to program, it was about 5 years ago and have had no problems since then.
?
Has anyone else ever experienced a random factory reset like this? Any other potential cause?

Re: blinking display on power up
I realize this is an old post , but...
Here is my version of the problem:
1. power on button shows RED
2. display flashes "TOT"
3. pressing power button? clears everything
4. pressing power button resumes normal opertion
5. display? reads? 13.6V? += .1 V
?
Suspect - lousy / lossy power connector - not surprising.

Main question
what the heck is flashing "TOT" telling ? |

I connect to the radio with a USB dongle made doe the Yeasu Radios. It works with my laptop. When I connected it to my Android phone via an OTB cable he com port is detected but I cannot control with the pRXTX free version. HAs anyone controlled their Yaeus Ft-817, 818, 857 or 897 with the free version? Mike N2MS On 12/11/2024 1:00 PM EST Bart Kindt via groups.io <bk@...> wrote: |
Re: FT857 remote operation?
I downloaded pRXTX free and installed in my Samsung Phone. I tested with my FT-817. The app comes up and detected the CAT com port but I cannot control the radio.. Does the free version control the radio? CAT port works with FTBasic.

I'd test with my FT-857 but it is in my portable field bag downstairs :-)
