Re: FT-857D and a mobile amplifier
Is the PTT line cabled through to the Ameriton? If you are using RF sensing it may not be fast enough. I always cabled the PTT line through from accessory socket of the transceiver to the amp. If the

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
Put up the vertical dipole. Using the antenna analyzer I have an SWR of 1.5:1 over 5MHz. Using the HT as a baseline test I was able to access the repeater on low power without issues. Connecting to

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
I'd like to modify my previous comment, that was the antenna for the VHF/UHF line out of the radio. For the HF, I'm using a SuperAntenna MP1 (Superwhip tripod all band 80M),

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
Brian You mentioned the rig was Mars modded.? Was that done by the dealer (HRO, etc) or after the fact by someone else??? Reason I am asking is because on a few of those "how to" websites, its

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
Brian, You mentioned the radio had been opened for MARS/CAP. In that case the offset may not work, note of the frequency readout goes down 600 when in transmit. If not you will need to place the

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
Do you have the tone enabled?? If it is set, but not enabled, saying I think t-enc on the display, your not going to be transmitting it, thus you won't break the repeaters squelch.? Scroll on the

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
I don't work above HF too often. I hope to do more with it some day. Meanwhile here's some suggestions: Is the FT-857D installed in a vehicle? Wherever you have installed the radio, it might help to

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
There¡¯s no reason the 857 can¡¯t run an HF antenna. I¡¯m running a 144/440MHz Comet-NCG SBB-1 with excellent results. Peter KK6YGH Sent: Thursday, 20 June, 2019 11:56 To: FT-857@...

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
I have read all the replies and have indeed started to build a 2M Vertical Dipole. So I ma not ruling out that it could be an antenna issue. However... If a HT can hit a repeater 22 miles away with 1W

Check your settings again, and be sure you see the repeater input frequency show up when transmitting and the tone function is turned on. Its a great radio. K3CLT Chuck Tobias

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
It seems like putting an HT antenna on FT857 is not a good idea! It's not surprising that you can't hot the repater. I have 5 watt HTs here and the ONLY repeater I can hit with them (from the 2nd

FT-857D and a mobile amplifier

Agreed and if you check the SWR of that antenna, it's probably VERY high when you try to transmit. Why? An HT antenna is designed around the fact that your hand holding the body of the radio becomes

Re: FT-857D not breaking 2m repeater squelch
your Ht antenna is not a real antenna for the 857D. you are not providing the ground to make it work properly as the match on an Ht antenna is not a true 1/2 half wave or better. it is a 1/4 wave. you
