FT-857D Discontinued By Yaesu - Was a Great Run
In December I noticed that HRO had moved the FT-857D into the Discontinued List.
Today I checked and the major sellers in the US (HRO, Gigaparts, DX Engineering, etc.) are all showing out of stock. Yaesu had a great run with this radio and I have sure enjoyed mine since 2004. So I wonder what Yaesu will replace it with? Will probably be a while to announce their replacement with the COVID-19 issue around the world. Stay healthy my friends. 73 Chris - KJ6ZH |
Re: 6-Pin DIN Interface has Stopped Working
The fuse looked ok when I took the top off, it was only when I tested it with a meter it showed up blown, the fuse for the cat port is near the cat port right next to a jumper, very small surface mount thing with a 3 on it.? the PDF is for a 897d but its the same as the 857

Re: 6-Pin DIN Interface has Stopped Working
I had the 13.8 volt output go dead on the cat port due to the 3amp surface mount fuse blow and my ldg yt-100 tuner stopped working. done a work around by soldering 2 small wires each side of the blown fuse and put a 3amp fuse in line, if it blows again its just a matter of popping the top of, replacing the fuse and away you go. pulling the cat plug out or putting it in with the radio on is what can blow the fuse as well as some say that a?motorized mobile antenna can pull too much and blow it. don't know if that was any help to point you in some sort of fault finding direction.

6-Pin DIN Interface has Stopped Working
Chuck Smith (K6CES)
I used to use my KPC3+ with my FT-857D quite a bit.? I also use to use a Signal Link for digital modes.? I have not touched the radio in about a month.
I recently tried to check in via packet for local net.? Connected the KPC3+, tuned to the frequency, changed the mode to 'PKT'.? I could see other nodes on the frequency via the S meter, but the TNC was not responding.? I tried to connect manually and the TNC would not connect to the radio.? I reset both the TNC and the FT-857D to factory defaults and tried again.? Nada. I broke out the Signal Link.? Connected the HF vertical, tuned to 7.074 USB and checked to ensure menu 38 was set to 'USER-U'.? Again, no joy.? I cannot decode or encode FT8, JS8, or PSK-31 no matter the menu 38 selection. Somehow the 6-pin DIN interface has gone dead.?? ?
Just to ensure that the KPC3+ or signal link are good, I connected them to my IC-7100 and everything works flawlessly.Has anyone seen the 6-Pin DIN malfunction or die?? I am at a loss.? Usually the FT-857D just works.? It has never failed me before and thus I have never had to troubleshoot an issue. Thanks, Chuck, K6CES |

Remove the tuner and plug the antenna directly into the radio¡¯s so-239 connector and see if you can at least hear something. Also, make sure you have the antenna cable plugged into the correct so-239 connector. 73, ¡ª±á²¹²Ô°ì KB4MTO /TA5ZC Hank Lambert KB4MTO/TA5ZC

New Location Blues
Hello All: ? I moved 4 times in the last 5 years.? During that time, I've been lurking - watching emails from this site related to the FT-857D.? All of my HF radio equipment was in boxes, so I haven't been on the air for a long time.? The HF gear is now working fine, with a new flagpole antenna and exterior Smart tuner. ? Now, it¡¯s time for me to get my FT-857D and YT-100 ?with a Diamond X50D antenna working again.? Before the move, this equipment worked flawlessly, so I¡¯m sure it¡¯s something that I have done or not done with the setup, but I just can¡¯t figure it out. ? I have re-programmed 200 new stations into the radio for new repeaters in the area.? When I check the SWR, it¡¯s off the chart on the radio, even if I tune it up with the YT-100.? In addition, I can¡¯t hear ANYTHING on any channel!? There are a lot of repeaters in the area, and with everyone home for a virus vacation, the airwaves are busy!? I¡¯ve tried everything that I can come up with, but don't have a solution.? Any suggestions??? ? Thanks for your help! ? Steve WA6DUN Prescott, AZ |

I have for sale a LDG YT-100 tuner made especially for the Yaesu FT857 series of radios. It is a couple of years old and has a few light marks on the case but looks good overall. It was just back to LDG and they checked it out for performance and verified that it is working correctly. They also determined that it needed a new cable, so it comes with a new cable.
I will include the old cable as well, maybe you can use it to for an adapter for something else. This tuner is rated at 100 watts for 160-6 meters and has a wider tuning range than the Yaesu FC-30 tuner. It plugs into the tuner/CAT jack on the radio, but has a separate CAT jack on the tuner so you can still do CAT control of the radio while using the tuner. You push the tune button on the radio and it puts your FT857 into AM mode, sends a 10 watt carrier, goes into a tuning cycle, and then returns to receive. I am asking $85 shipped for the tuner and cables

I also have a brand new CT-39A packet cable that plugs into the DATA jack on the back of the FT857 to run digital modes.? You can wire it into your soundcard interface or TNC.? Asking $11 shipped.

I can take paypal/check/MO.
