Re: WTB FT857D
Enjoy the FT857. Bob is a great guy and he is the local guy for ham radios. I checked out his used FT857s the other one I don't think has been out of the box. Good luck and enjoy. J.D. KE4MD -- J.D.

Re: WTB FT857D
OK, I do have one that I have repaired but I must have missed the AM on receive. Everything else works but I just haven't gone back in to fix that.

Re: cable question
Sorry I didn't see you were trying to go lighter. Rg174 is 3.3db/100ft so pretty lossy. -- Leonard K. Pennock (AD7AS)

Re: cable question
Db loss per 100ft at 10mhz RG58 1.4db RG8x 0.78db LMR 0.76db Not really worth changing from what you have IMO, but 8x would be a good choice. -- Leonard K. Pennock (AD7AS)

Re: New member
I'd recommend the Turbo Tuner. It works with most antennas and uses the TUNE button on the 857D to start the tuning cycle. http://www.tennatronix.com/ Randy (KE5EOT) ARRL, QCWA, ARES, RACES, ROWH

Hi JD, In order to control the Tarheel from the A%&, you would need to monitor the DC voltage on the antenna connection to the antenna. The Yaesu rigs pout out 12V to extend the antenna, i.e. go lower
