Hi JD,

?

In order to control the Tarheel from the A%&, you would need to monitor the DC voltage on the antenna connection to the antenna. The Yaesu rigs pout out 12V to extend the antenna, i.e. go lower in frequency, and 8V to shorten it (go higher in frequency).

?

Be aware that, even if the Tarheel can do 80m, it won¡¯t be able to using the ATAS control as the Yaesu rigs will not do auto tuning below 40m as the ATAS antennae only go down to 40m.

?

It may be possible to use the Tuner option instead of the ATAS option in menu 85 but would require an external control system of some sort.

Skip,
I wanted to ask you a question about the ATAS system.
I happen to have a Tarheel screwdriver antenna and I have looked at the ATAS control board and I am looking into adapting the circuit to drive it from my FT857.
I plan to use + 12 volt from the car to power the system for the antenna drive power and the signal from the FT857 to the comparator circuit to determine to stop, drive up and down.
Do you have an opinion (other than to scrap it and buy ab ATAS system HiHi)?
Thanks.

Best regards,
JD.
