Hi Larry,

Go to row I of the button menus (FUNC then rotate the select knob to MFi) then press button C (DISP) to toggle between the two display modes.

Re: Power issues and FT857D for sale.

Is the radio still for sale?

Re: FT 857 with VARA -HF winlink

Not showing CAT under PTT port to use.

Re: FT 857 with VARA -HF winlink

Where is this setup? In Winlink settings under FT 857?

Re: FT-857 menu settings for WSJTX #ft-8 #software #cat

Hi, Brian

I highly recommend you check out this document:

It's geared toward using the 857 with a SignaLink audio interface (which I use and highly recommend) but lots of great info in there. Just ignore the parts that don't apply to your setup.

Re: Power issues and FT857D for sale.

There is a wired low power feature mode for the radio. Check Page 34 of the FT-857 manual.? Page titled Rear Panel Connectors.? Term used is BATT SENS (note exact spelling).?

Re: Power issues and FT857D for sale.

Yes - I'm sorry. Bad day at the office.

I disagree,..? this post ;

"Close but NO. The brown wire is not a substitute for the Red wire. From the Manual.

If you connect pin-3 (BATT SENS) of the DC power jack to the ground, the FT-857 automatically switches to 20 Watts (430 MHz: 10 Watts) of output power.

was perfectly polite and accurate, with correct emphasis on 'NO' to negate mis-information previous.

Leonard has answered this topic perfectly.

Re: Power issues and FT857D for sale.

Not clipped, but grounded for low power. QRP therefore is available for instance portable operations where you can compensate for the lower power by having an enormous antenna. Something like a camping trip. Perhaps a full dipole for 160 meters and that is really big.

I have a mint FT857D? USA model with the box , manual and all I'd like to sell. However, I just tested it with a dummy load and wattmeter and power is low on all bands but not the same.

160 30 watts
80 30 watts
40 40 watts
30 40 watts
20 60-70 watts
17 40 watts
15 30 watts
12 30 watts
10 25 watts.

Didn't test elsewhere.? the menu is set for 100 watts and the brown wire is clipped.

Is there something simple I am missing or ?

I'd appreciate guidance and if someone wants to make a reasonable offer, please do t

Re: Power issues and FT857D for sale.

Pardon me for asking such a basic question but, what mode were you using when you tested it? Also, do you have a way to check the power output on 6m, 2m, and 70cm bands? Were you using an antenna or a dummy load? Not certain but, if the swr were high would the rig be folding back it's power output to save the finals?

Re: Power issues and FT857D for sale.

Before giving up check the connections for any inline fuses as corroded or dirty connections can drop the voltage under power very often.
