I am helping someone setup their Signal Link for use with digital modes and when the Signal Link is plugged into the data port they get no RX audio out of the radio? I haven't used the Signal Link with mine in a few years as I am running Pactor so I couldn't remember what I had setup.

Re: FT857 pc programming issue
Quite some time ago, a US ham had bargain priced FT-857's for sale, they were several hundred dollars cheaper than any of the discount stores had them priced at. What the bargain hunters didn't realize till too late was that they had just purchased the FT-857 designated for sale to Japanese Novice hams, so the rig had restricted frequency range and only 10watts o/p. Word got around very, very quickly. John VE7KKQ On Thu, Sep 1, 2022 at 4:53 PM Zack Widup <w9sz.zack@...> wrote:

Re: FT857 pc programming issue
Yes, I believe that was the setting that worked. I found it odd, because I thought it was a US version, but whatever works! 73, Zack W9SZ On Thu, Sep 1, 2022 at 6:04 PM Don Goodhart <n6eur08@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Zack; ? ? ? I have had the same Experience. ?I use the ¡°Chirp¡± Non-US Program window for FT-857 to Send/Receive information to the Radio. ?I works very well for Program the Yaesu FT-957 Radio. ?I also use the RT Systems ¡°ADMS-4B-US¡±. ?You can use it on Windows orMAC. ?I use it on Both of my Mac and Window. Re: FT857 pc programming issue
One thing I remember about Chirp is that, when the window to choose the radio comes up, there are a couple choices for the FT857. The first one I picked didn't work, so I tried the other one and it worked. 73, Zack W9SZ On Thu, Sep 1, 2022 at 4:40 PM Don Goodhart <n6eur08@...> wrote:

Re: FT857 pc programming issue
I had a similar issue in my 857, replaced it with a PICA fuse as there was nowhere to get an SMD fuse. John VE7KKQ On Thu, Sep 1, 2022 at 11:09 AM Jack W4GRJ <jack@...> wrote: I have confirmed the problem is blown smd 3a fuse F1001 |
Re: FT857 pc programming issue
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýChecked all of that...software is independent of baud rate...tried 3 different cabled. I think it is the smd f1001 fuse Just found some info on this and remember this issue years ago Thanks Jack Sent from my T-Mobile 5G Device -------- Original message -------- From: MARK COLLINS <mgcollins@...> Date: 9/1/22 12:15 PM (GMT-05:00) To: [email protected], Jack W4GRJ <jack@...> Subject: Re: [FT-857] FT857 pc programming issue
1. Baud rate of radio....as in the SW expects one Baud rate and you have another on the radio?
2. older programming cable. I had this happen recently.
3. What software are you using...this can also change what might be causing the issue.

FT857 pc programming issue
I picked up a used ft857, trying to program with pc but the radio fails when reading the radio.
I have programmed dozens of 857¡¯s over the years so it¡¯s not a setup issue. I remember sometime back about a minor hardware failure which caused this problem Hoping someone can help me with this thanks Jack w4grj |
Re: molex power connection question
Each connector in the molex connector is only rated for 15a so to make the 20a requirement of the 857 yausu paralleled the connections. On low continuous current modes like SSB you should be fine. High continuous current modes like digital modes could melt the connector.

Re: molex power connection question
One issue with the "Molex" connector is that is is not a Molex connector. It is a Japan Standard 6 pin power plug and there is a difference in the sizes of the connecting pins. This is one reason people have problems with these plugs so often. That and time and wear and tear takes? their toll.
I have made adapters to replace the 6 pin radio side with Anderson Power Poles and that would be a good answer if someone would step up to produce them.? I have seen numerous instances of low power due to bad connections and voltage drop under load.? Basically a pretty Mickey Mouse application of a small diameter pin and socket that easily loses tension with heating and removal and reconnections. If you replace the pins look for the correct pins and not the "Close enough" Molex pins and sockets. ? |
Re: molex power connection question
If you are referring to common molex used to power hard drives ... you are pushing it.
Over the years there have been issues with "standard? " Yaesu power connector - not making sufficient contact The results are noticeable - intermittent RF power output , and the connector gets? warm... You can sometime see it on build-in source meter... |
Re: molex power connection question
"Molex" connectors were originally used for connection of equipment
such as low-voltage DC connections like rack power supplies, which would
normally plug and unplug only when the unit needed to be replaced
(repair).? If? your857 is permanently left in the shack that should not be a problem but if you are going to be used at home and taken out to your car for mobile applications and/or portable use you will eventually have damaged contacts. "Emergency Organisations" like Raynet in UK, and the equivalent in other countries recommend "Power Pole" connectors as a standard which means that equipment can be swapped easily between applications (different radios, different locations etc) and have several other properties that make them ideal for us and also have almost unlimited plug/unplug lives.? All of my equipment uses PowerPoles and I cut my 12v leads on my 857 with an adapter with about 12 inches of wire from the Molex to a PowerPole, which can then be plugged into my shack supply or to a lead from my car battery -- or even into the car (or shack) of another Raynet member. ?. . . but set up your adapter, plug it into the 857 before it starts giving problems !
