FT-857 Jumpers
Dear FT-857 lovers,
I've been looking for the INFO of 857 jumpers which is often referred as MARS mod. My FT-857 seems modified as MARS and I'd like to mod it back to comply with JA regulation. Any INFO or pointer that explains each jumper of J1001-1009? Thanks in advance. 73/88, // HIRO, JJ1FXF |
FT-897D weird receive problem
I realize this is an 857 forum, but since the 897 and 857 and very
similar, I thought I'd try asking here. (Is there an 897 forum?) The other night while on 2m, upon UN-keying, the radio went into some sort of "hyper-sensitive" receive mode.? Lots of squelch breaking sound and S meter movement ranging over the whole scale.? Happens on both antenna or dummy load. The only way to get normal receive back is by recycling main power off then on again.? But just a quick key and release of the mic and the problem re-appears. This is happening only on 2m and 70cm. All other functions of the radio seem normal. No mods have ever been done. Radio is fully factory stock. Any ideas are appreciated... Mike KD7VRG Tucson, AZ |

My best guess as to how they work is: 024 - 039 are to calibrate, or set in some fashion, points at the frequencies listed so the RF power level operation by the operator may be relatively accurate across the range MF/HF/50 MHz. 040 - 044 similarly perform a calibration across the 144 and 432 MHz range. In other words a way of calibrating or ensuring that the general operator/operating menu setting 075 RF POWER SET works across those ranges. i.e. In many regions, 075 reads from: MF/HF 0 - 100 W; 144 MHz 0 - 50 W; and 432 MHz 0 - 20 W. Maximum will be lower in Japan, and possibly another area. 73, John -- John D Erskine VE7MHI VA7OTC CN88hk VA7RCN Victoria, B.C. |

FT-857D RF Power Mod
I am reducing FT-857D MAX RF Power to 50W by the Service Menu for JA¡¯s mobile station application.
It would be very much appreciated if someone could answer my following questions. 1. For what do the MID2, MID1, MIN work? 2. Are there any other values of the Service Menu that I need to change when changing the RF power? Thanks in advance. 73/88, // HIRO, JJ1FXF |
Re: Won¡¯t turn on but relay clicks
If you are using the Yaesu original power cable, check the connector, remove the connection and reconnect?it firmly. At times the connector also gave me problems. VU2TE On Tue, Jan 23, 2024 at 6:51?AM Eric S <Esh03603@...> wrote:

Re: Won¡¯t turn on but relay clicks
My 857D turns on but then the relay clicks and it cycles on & off until I disconnect the power. Only way to keep it on is to clone then reprogram with rt systems then it will run with no problems. Brian

Re: CAT Control and Amplifier use Simultaneously
The FT-857D has an undocumented CAT control set up through the microphone jack. If you check the manual for the Microphone jack setting in memory 59 you will find that the choices are NOR/RMT/CAT. When set to the CAT function the CAT connection can be made through the Microphone jack. I've done this and it does work. Search for FT-857D MIC CAT. I know that I had to build a level converter but I don't remember why. It might have been that the level produced by the computer was not correct for the Yaesu control function. I was able to use the microphone while I was using the CAT control through the RJ-45MIC jack while using the rear port to control an antenna coupler. Connection that I used was a "Oxsubor RJ45 Splitter Adapter 1 to 2 Ethernet Coupler <>." A short Ethernet jumper cable, connects the adapter to the microphone jack, plug the microphone into one of the 2 adapter twin ports, then connect the CAT cord to the other of the 2 adapter twin ports. Since none of the audio pins is shared with a? CAT pin both will function at the same time.

Re: Compact AC Power Supply for 857D?
I agree.? I used to take my HPS1A with my 857 as carry-on luggage on overseas trips. I don't know if they're still available. 73 ? ? Darrel aa7fv. On Mon, Jan 22, 2024, 02:21 Giuseppe Marullo[iw2jww] <giuseppe@...> wrote:
