Re: AM won't tune

Are you wanting to tune AM with the main VFO dial?? Make sure menu setting #04 "AM&FM DIAL" is enabled.

That setting defaults to 'Disabled'

Re: Main Tuning Knob Setscrew size

Just take the knob down to your local hardware. They can hook you up with a screw and tool to do the repair

I have a quick question....right.? ?Is it possible to reduce the power to less than 5 the current minimum???

I would like to be able to start with a meager 1 Watt in all bands HF, if possible.? ?My amp does not like to start with 5 as it produces over 800W....yeah!

FT-857 (not D) - Issue with Displayed Input Voltage Wandering and Noise in RX During/After Key Press

Thought I would ask the group for ideas on these issues with a new to me FT-857.? The input voltage displayed on the screen wanders up and down between 12.5 V and 14.4 V.? The actual measured voltage is 14.1 V from the power supply measured inside the radio.? I have a FT-897D and it shows 14.1 V solid.? Also measured voltage sampled at the A to D going into the microprocessor and it is rock solid, no wandering at all.

Secondly there seems to be a lot of noise in the receiver with button presses (no antenna) or when enabling CAT, remote mike control (I have the MH59 mic).? The thash/tones heard in the audio change frequency when for instance the front panel lock button is selected or deselected and while pressed.? My 897D does not exhibit this issue.?

Are these just related to the older 857 or is there an issue.

Best Regards,

Roger (N3EN)

Re: Ft 857D with Ham Radio Deluxe

Most EEPROM's I am familiar with (including those built into microcontrollers) typically have about 10,000 write cycles as their limits. Firmware for EEPROM's/ microcontrollers that I have written make any changes to the EEPROM something the user does and probably occur only a handful of times during the lifetime of the device. I could see that a software-controlled EEPROM programming step could easily exceed the useful limit of number of times to write to an EEPROM.

I play with Node Red here, and did my FTDX101, and added a flow for the FT-897D.

Node Red tcp request talks to a rigctld server I have connected to the radio.

I rigctld direct cat requests are possible in W ..... w ....... formats.

The possible cat interaction is very limited.

I do not have any personal experience of using it myself, however, I believe that was the reason that some functions were removed from HRD. I would suggest more research into it before using those commands. The 857 manual does not list a command for the AGC, nor do the 817 or 897 manuals.

Re: Baud Rate For APRS #aprs

While you are looking at Device Manager, unlpug the USB cable from the TT4. One of those COM ports should go away. Plug the USB cable back in and it should come back. That will verify which one is correct.

Ignore the RF baud rate, that will always be 1200. There should be a baud rate selection associated with the COM port choice. Start with 19200 (default for TT4). If you are seeing lights blinking on the TT4 corresponding with APRS traffic heard, then your radio and TT4 should be okay. It's just the computer=TT4 connection you need to work on.

Re: Ft 857D with Ham Radio Deluxe

I think those commands were removed because it was shown that certain aspects of remote control on the FT-8X7 series radio shortened the life of the radio. Yaesu came out and said not to use the older versions of HRD. HRD removed the controls that caused the shortened lifespan of some of the chips for the 8X7 radios and the newer versions are safe.

I know others on here know more about it than I do, but I just wanted you to know so you wouldn't unknowingly damage your radio.

Hi all , are 2 different things :?the baud rate from the computer to the?TT4 and baud rate?over the air rate, some of you responded for the second - always 1200 on 2m , correct , but I guess the question if for first - can be any baud rate depending on what is configured TT4 ( 19200 defailt ) and must match with computer port rate.
