Using a Balanced Line Tuner

Doug

Hi, I¡¯ve just set up a doublet with ladder line to a MFJ Versa III Tuner to my 857D. I¡¯ve adjusted the tuner to the ¡°loudest sound¡±, about S7 on 20M. Next step is to transmit on low power and fine tune. Problem, no matter what I set the RF gain to I¡¯m only seeing 5-10W out on the tuner meter and it¡¯s all reflected. On the radio when I transmit, the SWR looks to be around 2-3, power under 50% (with radio RFgain set to 100W).

I¡¯m receiving fine, I live in Ontario EN94np and picking up brothers in the US clearly. Do you think there¡¯s a setting on the radio that I¡¯ve missed to make it work with the external balanced line tuner (I¡®ve played with menu item 085). Thanks in advance.

Doug

Re: Zebra Stripes fixed in my 857D

Hello,
I got 5 zebra stripes too. Today I opened the radio and by the way of SMD technic, using a small soldering iron and flux liquid, I refreshed as in a picture above is indicated in a square red box telling to "reflow these". I think to have done a very good job as you can see in the pictures I made.?
Unfortunately after powering on again the radio now I got 8 zebra stripes instead of 5. No lucky. The core of the problem should be there around but not exactly there I guess...
I will try something different next time.
Thank you.

If you click on the link, it adds the Group IO info in front of the URL. You must delete everything before the www.

For many years I have never fused my radios with the exception of those installed in a vehicle which I fit with a fuse in both positive and negative lines.

My radios are normally used in the bush (forest) and have a 1M cable to a lead acid battery, a fuse is pointless in this situation.

However if you run your radio inside a house and especially if its wiring is concealed then one fuse is sensible.

Re: NO ft-8 TX with FT-857D - Signalink interface and wsjt-x ¨C Need guidance

There is a resistor in series with the line in that opens very often. I would check it, see the service manual
