Can't comment on the cost of display. I had the ceramic filters go bad on my FT-857D radio. Was not too happy as the radio was used at most 10 hours (it was my backup), but at 12 years old, any warranty was in the rear view mirror.?
Contacted Yaesu in California and explained the problem to Tim, their service manager.? As I recall the total cost including shipping both ways was around hundred and a quarter. That also included aligning the radio. Total time out, back and service was no more than 10 days.
My personal experience with Yaesu service is they did an excellent job and fully guaranteed their work.? Yes, I know you are not getting any discount on the cost of the display, but having them do the replacement may be preferable.? However, at a half hour labor, replacing the display yourself may be doable if you have good technical skills.
