Cliff, it could be related to the USB port, or the computer, or even the CAT cable. Or, it could be the relationship of the CAT circuitry and the CTCSS processor. It could a host of things and I don't have any test equipment save a frequency counter and antenna analyzer. Regardless...
But thanks again for your insight. Even though you were responding to a different issue, it was the correct solution for my issue. Now that this is archived here I hope that it will be visible on the net for anyone else having a similar issue. B-Z

I even emailed a short video of the issue, including the changed beep tone, to Yaesu support. They had never seen it before and wanted the radio back. I said no after finding a YouTube or some blog that mentioned the issue and resolution. It took months of internet digging to find it. Anyway, glad your issue is resolved. The 857D is a heck of a rig, have fun with it!!!! Hope to hear you on the airwaves.
