Check his ground to the chassis of the vehicle. also check with a
watt meter online to see if it the radio or not.

Good morning all,?
? ? I have a fellow ham buddy on a long
trip that has a newer 857D with an ATAS120 mounted in
his van,? the setup worked well for several days, but
one afternoon he told me his ATAS120 quit tuning on
20m.? All other bands verify 40m up to UHF. ( he runs
the diplexer for 2 & 70cm.)? His specifics are he
can hear stations on 20m but cannot tx or tune the
ATAS120. Everything else works as it should.? He is in
cold weather land as well.
I suspect a cold solder joint somewhere in
the band pass section, maybe even at the relay or the
relay its self.? He doesn't have stored frequencies so
initializing relay cleaning ( pwr + band up + band down
) did not resolve the problem.
Any thoughts, comments, ideas welcomed at
this point.
