Hello all,
A very good resource for all things Viking II.? Lots of things
about how to check these rigs out and repair/restore them.?
I had acquired my Viking II CDC model from an estate about 8
years ago (maybe 10).? It had been used, while sitting on a shelf,
in a rack cabinet.? There was not top, no bottom, and now
back/sides 'wrap-around' sheet metal.? Over the next several
months, I was either given, or purchased for 'peanuts', five more
Viking II's, in order to scrounge the cabinet pieces I need, and
for general spare parts.? One of them was another CDC model.
Well, during Covid, I wound up restoring two of the five, which
was kind of enjoyable when there's nothing else you can do.?? I
found this site a great place and very useful.

Thanks, Steve!? I have never seen or heard of that
in the 59 years I have had the rig.
The Viking II is an amazing rig with its output circuit.?
The only antenna it ever failed to load was a 3 foot metal
fishing rod, on 2.2 MHz!

Quicker way to tell is by the band switch. It
covers all frequencies between 1.8 and 30 MHz. In several
bands.?

Thanks, Lee.??
Mine operated on a lot of oddball MARS
frequencies without problems.? How would I tell if
it was a CDC model?

If I may ask, what is a Johnson
Viking II CDC?? I have my old Viking II
(purchased used?in 1964 after?I got my
General)? but this is the first time I have
seen the "CDC" part.??
Thanks,

Hello!
I retired from Lockheed when the Pandemic
hit. I've been collecting BA's and old
test equip for decades. I currently have a
Johnson Viking II CDC on the air, mostly
on 75 and 40 meter phone, paired with a
National NC-303. I use a KW matchbox with
a mod for 160 meters to tune a 160m
half-wave inverted vee for 160-6 meters.?
I have a Ranger and a Viking Valiant that
are undergoing some restoration, a Johnson
Mobile transmitter (and Johnson mobile VFO
but no PS) and a Challenger which I've
collected but I haven't done much with
yet. My long term plans are to keep the
Viking II CDC and the Ranger but if anyone
is interested in making an offer for any
of the other rigs let me know and we can
work something out, especially if you can
visit the Southeastern Pennsylvania area
(Pottstown/Phoenixville).? I have way too
much stuff! 73 KN3i John
