Anyone have an idea as to how I could accomplish the same thing? It would be even neater if one could use every turn of the coil instead of just 5 taps. Having another homebrew tuner with a roller inductor, makes one spoiled. having infinite inductance steps.
First, sorry for the late message approval. I wasn't feeling well
yesterday after work and didn't get to my email in the afternoon as I
usually do. There are only two of us moderating the group. Once we get
some track record of posts from members we will ask for help from
those. I'm 65, have multiple heath issues, and want to see the group
continue when I'm gone and also would like more people keeping an eye
on things so we can get faster moderation of posts.

Second, you could make a jumper with an alligator clip and manually
jumper across the coil like some homebrew tuners have. Or you could
look into finding a roller inductor (in good condition, without
visible indicators of arcing on the coil or roller) that will fit and
get a turns counter dial for it. I just saw one at a small local
hamfest and two roller inductors on the same table. They weren't
expensive.
