开云体育It looks smaller than the Big Red (HF 42976) but the real killer is the shipping charges – over $1K for shipping to the US. ?

It is still a good mill for small shop needing more than a minute mill. Still under $500.00. I have own my since 2004 and fits in my 10 x10 [ 3 M x 3 M] shop. ?The biggest change is locating the switch to front.

Re: Drill Mill Selection
开云体育Yes. I have found on closed end slots
that it is best to drill each end
slightly smaller then make multiple
passes top down with a four
flute.

Grizzly G0759I cannot add directly, but I have a G0463/Sieg X3 that makes a noise when cutting steel with 1mm depth of cut with 12 mm cutter, only reducing the feed and tuning the speed brings it down to a comfortable level. I also have an G0760/RF30 that is more than capable of cutting 2 mm depth with a 35 mm carbide inserted end/face cutter.? You need to tune down the feed and speed and adjust the jibs to reduce vibration. Cutting a slot in a single pass is hard work on any of these machines, in my view. |
RF30 z feed backlash
Hi,
Thanks for accepting me to this group. I have owned a RF30 Metric R8 for nearly 20 years. Recently been try to improve the machine, add power feed and resolve issues with the backlash in the z feed. I was looking for history of previously mods to learn from?? ?I have enlarged the slot that holds the down feed worm to the main housing so that the gears are better engaged, but realised that there is no preload on the fine feed spindle bearings. Has anyone come up with a clever solution to this issue? Peter |
Re: MILL DRILL pulley
开云体育Dave ? I think I have it figured out, I just installed the controller in a bad place to get at its under the bench so, I bit the bullet and crawled under there yesterday, and pulled it out.. Did some testing with multimeter and found a fuse blown on the dc voltage output to the motor and relays.. replaced it and now I am getting 0 to 105volts dc so looks good. ? Now I have to reinstall it and see if there’s a bad relay or maybe the motor that could have blown the fuse, maybe I will get lucky and every thing works good.. ? ? Fingers crossed, may be a day or 2, I think I need to come up with a better and more accessible place to mount the controller, maybe the relays also, the relays are stuffed up under the mill table also. ? I’ll send you a pic later after I go out to work on it today.. ? The wiring will turn your brain to mush…. ?? ? Thanks Gary ? Sent from for Windows 10 ? From: davesmith1800

Re: MILL DRILL pulley
I use a 1/4" belt on my x2 got rid of the plastic... much better
I haven't used the mill in a while but went out to rub it today, of course can't get the spindle to work, have a kbws controller, power lights all on, relays on but no motor... This is going to be a real pain to trouble shoot.. and like you I'm in south Florida so you know how hot its getting... Gary? |
New mill power question
开云体育A while back I mentioned selling my big mill in preparation for moving from 120V land to 220V land.? Well, that's sold and assuming the stay at home stuff gets lifted, we're still planning the move for July. Our builder got official permission to restart work on our house + business building and the electrician is now starting to run wires.? He said I can have 380V power for the shop (and our sauna heater) so that's going in.? I found the 380V version of the ZX-50 milling machine is even quite a bit cheaper than the 220V version AND higher HP.? Up to this point I didn't even know there WAS 380V power available.? Hey, I'm an American, you can't expect me to know things about other countries!?? :) Anyway, is there anything I should know about running stuff on 380V besides "don't grab the bare wires"?? Such as, will switching loads on/off have a different effect on making the 220V lights flicker?? I'm going to try having regulated supplies for all the LED lights if I can, I notice since installing some LEDs here in 120V land they're a LOT more sensitive to flicker than the fluorescent or incandescent ones. For anyone wondering? how you get 380V from 220V, the power at the poles there is 3 phase WYE.? Any one phase to ground is 220V, any phase to any other phase is 220V times the square root of 3 = 381. In the USA we have center tapped power from a 240V single phase transformer that's across two legs of 3 phase DELTA.? That's why either "hot" wire to ground is 120V (240 / 2). Re: MILL DRILL pulley
Hi what size belt are you looking to use. I'm in the process of making one for a x2 type mill central machinery. From my measurements there isn't much room to go with a much larger belt. I have researched this for months and scoured the web for specs and build logs and it seems the 1/4 inch belt should have enough touque on low belt pulley setup. If you need those plans etc let me know if you have plans for larger belt I would like to view them as I just split a 4 x 5 Alum round and was going to start machining it to 1/4 size specs as I have the belt to cut the groove tool outline. It is a spare mill as I have a different one now and it's goung to be for sale when I'm done. I hate to just replace the plastic gears and someone else have the same problem I have now. . I'm in south Florida USA. THANKS DAVE
