Yes. I have found on closed end slots that it is best to drill each end
slightly smaller then make multiple passes top down with a four
flute.

I use old mills with lot of slop
Typically I apply a little of table clamp .
If cutting a 1/2" slot make the first pass with next size smaller end mill
Then finish with 1/2" end mill

I use a 1/4" belt on my x2 got rid of the plastic... much better
