The Challenge
This week, the chef-testants had their adaptability tested by cooking with various techniques — and those methods were kept secret until they reached their cooking stations. Since Team Ramsay won last week's challenge, they took over the the Top Level, Team Arrington was in the Middle Kitchen, and Team Blais was back in the Basement.
When each team reached their assigned floor, they were immediately given a cooking method to execute. Team Ramsay's was oven roasting, Team Arrington's was steaming, and Team Blais' was deep frying. The platform drop went relatively smooth, but Arnav grabbed venison — a protein he's never cooked before — and Iman disappointed Nyesha when she snatched up frozen salmon patties. Yikes!
By the end of the 30-minute challenge, Natalia was concerned that her tamales weren't fully cooked. Nobody wants to eat raw masa! Not giving up, she took a blowtorch to the top of them and hoped for the best. Shockingly, the judges ended up loving the dish and said, "It might be lacking color, but it's not lacking anything in flavor."
Top Dish
The best dish of the week was Brandon's "wonderful," "elevated," and "incredible" crispy fried halibut head. This is Team Blais' first win of the season, earning them immunity and a trip to the Top Level kitchen next week.
Elimination Cook-Off
Chosen to face off in this week's elimination were Iman from Team Arrington and Beatrice from Team Ramsay. Iman's salmon patties were called "the most unappealing dish in?Next Level Chef?history. Confident his team would come out on top, Gordon threw the "feisty" Beatrice into battle. For this elimination cook-off, Iman and Beatrice were tasked with cooking on cedar board planks.
Beatrice's cedar-planked salmon with a dill crème fra?che and grapefruit fennel salad was "cooked beautifully" and "delicious." Iman's cedar-planked swordfish with a charred eggplant puree and cucumber-tomato salad was "good," but needed citrus. In the end, the sixth chef eliminated this season was Iman, a 35-year-old professional chef from New York.
