Spindle nose thread protector

Hi all.? ?Well looks like Dan got things fixt as I just logged in and this is the first post I have made in a long time.??
As to spindle nose thread protectors I have a bunch of them and for $15 and shipping I will send one to you.? These are for the 1 1/4 - 12 spindle nose on the Lot 2 3 4 and 5 and also on the TL lathe with the same spindle nose.

Dennis

Very nice, I have a lot 5 I'm trying to rebuild. Do you or anyone you know have a completed unit that I could get pictures of? I'm not sure how much my machine is missing

Hello Dennis ,
Hope you see this. I sent you a email ( Your new email address) about the thread protector awhile back guess you did not get it. Do have a question though did Dalton make a Follower Steady Rest ( Think that is what it is called ) for the B-4 Lathe ? If not what might fit .or make fit ?? I was thinking about polishing a small Diesel Cam to check the lobs ( in Granny Gear ) but since the B-4 is so short thought would take the tail stock off and install one---- again only turning in Granny Gear to polish. Good idea or a bad one ??

Hi Terry
As to your question about follower and steady rest, yes Dalton provided steady rest for? all models of lathes they produced.? I have one for each model I have.? Lest I think so.? You guys have no idea of how much Dalton South Bend and Atlas stuff I actually?have. Also have your name and address on my list of thread protectors to ship off. Post office has been out of small flat rate boxes so as soon as I get some I will be sending your thread protectors off.?

Dennis would a steady rest work what I have in mind removing the tailstock or could I do damage to the B-4 lathe ? The total overall length of the Cam is 18" end to end.

Terry, I don't see a problem with what you?want to do.? It would be even better if your lathe had a 36 inch bed but guessing yours is a 30 inch.? Holding the cam at one in with the chuck and supporting the cam with a steady rest at one of the bearing journals should work just?fine.

Yes sorry should have said it was a 30"? bed ( Wish it was a 36" one-- oh well happy with the 30" :) ) ---Now the other question -- I do not have a Steady Rest will a South Bend one work or will I need to try and make something that will work ? or do you have one you might want to sell ? I know this is something that is just not out there that is easy to come by.? I am open to any ideas also.

?Terry you will need a Dalton made steady rest.? I know of no other lathe that has a 7 1/4 inch swing or any that?has a bed width that would match a Dalton.? SB is quite a bit bigger.? I need to look at all the crap I have and see if I have an extra one.? I usually keep one steady of each lathe size.? I know I have a Lot 6 as well as an? extra Dalton 9 steady but not sure about the Lot? 3 4 and 5 lathes. Lot 2 would not work as they are only a 6 inch swing lathe.? Most don't realize just how small the Lot 2 really was.
