Manual for Dalton Lot 2

Ebay Boy

Hi,

Has anyone got a manual for the Lot 2 lathe? I’ve completely forgotten how to put the change gears on and what the configuration is to cut threads. Help much appreciated. A close up photo of the default wouldn’t go a miss.

Sad to report Marc, there IS no manual on the Dalton (any model) ?the best you can do is sales literature and catalogs and they can be found at Tony’s site here ?

Marc, I really don't believe there ever was an actual printed users manual, but Dennis or Glen or someone else may step up and correct me.

You guys are fast to reply Thankyou. Not long after a complete strip and restore I took all the change gears off, everything off the side to sandblast and clean etc, got side tracked and I just can’t recall how it goes together. I’ve also a stack of gears in shed that were never fitted and I’m not even sure if they belong to this Dalton.?

Crikey, just looking at my own photos on the group from last year and re reading replies from Denis. It’s quite worrying because I’m struggling to understand the terms I’ve used myself, to describe things! Aka I’ve even forgotten the correct names for the individual components on the lathe. Getting old..?

anyway. I’m obviously going to need some kitten glove guidance. I’m sure it will all come back to me.?

Before any comments, one final photo. I’ve added letters on photo. Can someone label each letter please so I have a fighting chance of understanding better please.?

The gear that goes at the stud position is the gear that goes on the forward reveres shifter. The thread gear goes on the lead screw and anything in between its just an idler. Usually the 72 tooth is used as the idler gear on the banjo or gear mounting bracket. Dennis

Thanks Denis. I guess it would be a whole lot easier if I had a plate / chart on mine with the gear configurations stamped on it like a modern lathe.

Bart my son in-law did a couple of things and I started getting some emails
so it may work now. Will look and see if I have an spare thread chart for a
Dalton. You can also look in the file section we used to have a list of the

thread charts there. Dennis -----Original Message----- From:
