Re: New Dalton Lot 5 Owner
It is an optical illusion, the "paddle" is just the main part of the lever. ?The curved piece that you see is separate from the lever and it does the locking by pivoting parallel with the bed. ?There is a pin on the far end of the curved piece. ?I'll try to add a close up picture later this week.

Jeff, is the paddle some kind of lock to make the shift handle stay put? Re: New Dalton Lot 5 Owner
Nice?looking Dalton, Jeff. I'm sure others will chime in with me on this. Can you see if you can find the Serial # on the tailstock end of the bed? More pictures will be nice also. We'll be looking to before and after photos. You've come to the?right place. Dennis Turk is our most experienced owner here, and he may have some questions and advice?for you. Be sure to check out our photo and files sections here also. Dan On Fri, Sep 2, 2022 at 10:57 AM <jeff.brown@...> wrote: I bought a Dalton Lot 5 last weekend.? New Dalton Lot 5 Owner
I bought a Dalton Lot 5 last weekend. ?I'll post better pictures sometime in the next couple of weeks. It was part of a bigger buy and I need to get everything put away before I can get proper pictures.
It was, says the previous owner, black with gold pinstripes. ?It is currently dirt/rust covered. ?It has lived outside for an extended period of time. The compound does move but nothing else does. ?I noticed near zero back lash in the compound and no visible ridge on the ways. ?I have a feeling it was purchased and stuck in a corner somewhere and rarely used. ?Hopefully it looks just as good once the dirt/rust/grime is removed. It is a 36" bed, Lot 5 no 50. ?I has a taper attachment and threading dial. ?No change gears. ?Three jaw chuck. ?It is missing all guards include the rear guard that would have the change gear threading information. ? My plans are to restore it to as near as how it left the factory as possible. ?I'd love to find some guards to replace the missing one but will fabricate some if needed. ?I need change gears and would like to buy some original ones but if not will be happy with some from Boston Gear. ? I will use the lathe some but I have others so it is more of a restoration/history project. Re: Lot 5 screw questions
开云体育All three lead screws are 7/16-10 acme. Cross slide and tail stock are left hand thread, compound is right hand thread. ?You also need to address any end play in the lead screw mounting bushings. The cross slide is prone to a lot of end play on Dalton lathes. ?There is no source for these lead screws they have to be made. Same for the ?nuts. Lot 5 screw questions
Hi,?
I have a lot 5 and i have a lot of backlash in all of the screws, i would like to make and/buy new threaded blocks for it; what are the lead screw dimensions for the cross slide, the compound, and the apron? Also which screw is left and right hand threaded? Any help would be greatly appreciated? Thanks, Ryan Waldt? |
Re: Somebody who knows how to use gears on Dalton 6 B-4, please help.
开云体育There is a spacer on the end of the threading lead screw. This allows you to shift the gear on the lead screw one gear thickness. You move the spacer to the other side of the gear on the lead screw when compounding gears on the gear bracket are required when cutting some of the very fine threads. ??On Aug 2, 2022, at 2:32 PM, Joseph Difusco via groups.io <josephdfco@...> wrote:

I think you just move one or the other gear in or out using a smaller gear or a spacer so the line up. It's been at least 43 years since I used a lathe without a feedbox.
