Bus Trip
Hello everyone and happy new year! I just posted pictures of the boys bus and the girls bus that took us on a trip to the Wooster potato chip factory. I have many more pictures so I'll post them as I get time. Corrine

Winter in New England
2
For those of you who live in warmer climates and just might be a little nostalgic about winter and its beauty, I have posted a couple of pictures that Priscilla took this morning following the latest snowfall that we had last night.

additional names on 1st grade picture
3
Just got back from the storage unit. I was able to identify some of those missing names Top row - between Jeff and Chuck is Bill Bonheimer; 3rd row next to Merlin is Louella Mast; 4th row next to Bonnie is Sue Lehman (confirming Betty Falb Hochstetler's); 6th row next to Karen Eckard is Barbara Elsie. 7th row next to Danny is Gary C. That is all I could make out after all these years for some reason it faded out and I could not confirm Mavis Martin at the end of row 4. After 17 1/2" of new snow last week (Wednesday and Friday) I'm ready for Spring. Anxious for snow to melt so that we can start excavating for the foundation of our new home. Looking forward to seeing everyone next year and possibly catching up with some of you when I come to Ohio this spring. Betty Ann

Lutz, Florida? Dave's very best friend in seminary took a position at a Lutheran Church in Lutz, Florida. We visited Rick and Molly Malivuk several years ago. Name change
yes, Addie is the same person as Adeline Amstutz. When I went to college I preferred to be called Addie although it was hard for some of the professors who knew my older siblings had a musical sister by the name of Adeline. They soon learned. Some of my older cousins, and definitely aunts and uncles, still call me Adeline and I sign my checks as Adeline. I learned that in India. In fact, there it is better to just use your first initials because according to their laws, Addie Yoder is a person completely different from Adeline Yoder. Not even related! After 5 years at Goshen College (I took an extra year so I could take some extra classes at the seminary located at the end of campus and also to give an organ recital in addition to a piano recital). From college I wanted to go directly to India to teach music at the international school, Woodstock, north of Delhi. But my visa did not come. I taught Jr Hi general music courses and HS choir in Wauseon, Ohio for one year. The agreement with the school board was that I would teach there until the visa came. I went to India, via Germany(to visit a cousin studying in Bonn) Switzerland (to visit Amstutz origins)and a 24 hr stay in Terehran before landing-staying for 6 years. I was secretly engaged to Dave Yoder, whom I met in Goshen before I left. He went to Oregon to do his 2 years of alternate service by working at a Mennonite H.S. in Salem. The mission board heard of an opening for a history teacher at Woodstock, got him a visa, we were married in 1967 and our daughter was born in 1970. We returned to the states in 1971. When the two most important things in our life, getting married and having your first child, happen in a country, a little bit of your heart stays there. We were able to take Karmen back with us to visit the school in 2004 when they celebrated their 150th anniversary. In fact, on Karmen's 34th birthday, she was able to visit the hospital where she was born. It was a shock for her to see the primitive it was, but she loved the week we had in the Himalayan mountains. The views were still spectactular. Her comment "And you guys got to see this every day for all those years!". I was there a total of 6 years and Dave for 4 and Karmen for 8 months! We moved to Indianapolis in 1990 but have lived in Ohio, South Carolina (where Dave got his Masters of Divinity at a Lutheran Seminary and I got my Masters of Music in organ performance) and North Carolina-Winston Salem for a year of internship and then in Reidsville serving Holy Trinity Lutheran church for 8 years. That's enough for now. I want to thank Paul for being so patient with a computer illiterate person! He finally got me signed on for dalton 59. Go pink and black. Addie

my life since graduation
4
Went to canton beauty school after graduation. I worked in that field for about 4 years but my hands did not love the perm solution so i had to leave it behind. got married to george lee (from Oakland MD) in May 1963. <i must tell you that most of you were probably married by 1963 and I thought I was going to be the class old maid...hahha> We lived in Orrville for till 1972 years and then moved back to Terrace Circle in Dalton where my parents lived before they moved to FL. Worked at Hagan in Orrville and many other office jobs before converting to motherhood in 1970 when we had the first of 4 daughters. moved from dalton to Tampa FL in 1974...was blessed to stay home with the girls till 87 when i went back to office work and then into food service and then to USAA which i retired from in 1998. Moved to N GA mountains in 2000 ~Blue Ridge GA~ till 2006 when we moved back to FL (had one to many houses/one had to go) now living in Lutz FL and close to two of the daughters. One is single & lives in Atlanta and the other one lives in Missoula MT and is the editor of Edible Missoula. We have 6 grandblessings and are enjoying 2 of them here in FL. we have an RV in the N GA mountains and hope to spend the summer there again. We traveled to Italy on a Rick Steves tourlast summer for two weeks and will be taking a bus tour out west this coming summer, LORD willing. my husband and I enjoy good health and we are blessed beyond measure~ I love connecting with each one of you and hope to hear more about YOU and yours.

Good evening - It took a while to get in but thanks to Paul, I tried again and succeeded :). We are in the process of packing up to move 1/2 mile from our current home and the pictures are up in a storage facility. When I get up next week, I'll try to locate it. I had written on the names on the back of my picture so we can fill in the remainder of the names. Yes, Betty, the individual you identified was Sue Lehman. I think there was a Gary Bosley in our class, but that will be confirmed later. Trying to keep warm -2 here in Central New York this morning and about 10 degrees now - a heat wave will be coming in this week 47! Some of the treasurers we have kept! Stay warm Betty Ann (Hochstetler) Blackman

The Last 49 Years
Not too long ago, Patricia (Dearolf) Lee posted a note about what she has been doing since high school graduation. She asked that we all do the same, but so far the response has been minimal. In a recent email to me, she mentioned the lack of activity on the Dalton59 Yahoo site, so I promised to try getting the ball rolling again with my update. So here goes…… After high school graduation I went to work at the Mardigan Corporation in Wooster. I did electrical maintenance work. I continued the flight lessons I had started during my senior year in high school. In 1960, I obtained my Commercial and Flight Instructor pilot licenses. I began giving flight instruction part time at the Orrville Airport while continuing to work full time at Mardigan. One of my students was Suzanne Scallon, a girl I would fall in love with. The fellow who wrote the insurance for Orrville's airport asked me to go into the insurance business with him. I started my insurance career in June of 1962. Later that year I married Suzanne and we moved to North Canton, Ohio, where our insurance office was located. I did a fair amount of flying in conjunction with our insurance business. I also continued to give flight instruction part time at McKinley Air Transport at the Akron-Canton Airport. In 1966 Suzanne and I attended the Reading (Pa) air show where United and American Airlines were recruiting pilots. That stirred my interest in airline flying. February 1, 1967 started my airline career with Allegheny Airlines (which changed its name to USAir and then USAirways.) Suzanne and I moved to the Pittsburgh area later that year with our two young children, Christopher and Rebecca. Our youngest child, Deborah would come along about 10 years after Rebecca. We lived in the Pittsburgh area for 27 years. We loved to vacation on large inland lakes and were always looking for that "dream location" where we could retire. When the merger between USAir and Piedmont occurred it presented the opportunity to move to the Charlotte, NC area. We settled in at our present location on Lake Norman, about 25 miles North of Charlotte. I retired from airline flying in July of 1999 and enjoy boating, golfing, and my hobby of 51 years, Amateur (Ham) Radio. Christopher and his wife Toni and grandson Antonio, live in Hebron, Ky which is near the Cincinnati Airport. Chris is a mechanic with Delta Airlines. Antonio is four years old. Rebecca and her husband Rob and our grandson Sam, live about 25 minutes away from us here in NASCAR country. Sam wants to be a race car driver and has started driving quarter midget racers. Sam is eight years old. Deborah is still unmarried and lives in Baltimore. She is a Doctor of Pharmacy and teaches at the University of Maryland. So there you have it, the highlights of what I have been doing for the last 49 years. Everyone is waiting to hear what you have been doing. Don't keep us waiting any longer! Paul Sturpe

Letter to Classmates
Well surprise its ME again with my passion for bringing this class together. I feel like I am beating a dead horse as there has been little to no response from you that have joined the group> Yes I am sassy and bossy but I am also passionate about getting this reunion to be a great weekend with renewed friendships. It is VERY important to me! And to a seemly few others. SO if you share the same passion please jump on board and communicate with the rest of us. You can't be that busy! Below is a copy of a letter that I will be sending out to the classmates (via snail mail) that I know of that have not joined the group or perhaps do not have email. This is ONE of my final attempts. If i don't get a good response I am going to personally go to Dalton this fall and knock on some doors! Seriously I love you guys and girls and want us to reunite! Lets just do it! You that are online.....Help me out here! Wednesday, May 7, 2008 Hey class of Dalton High 1959: Next year about this time we will be getting ready to join together for our 50th class reunion. Can you believe that much time has gone by? I see you holding hands with the rest of us and becoming entwined. (for those of you who do not get the letter i have stationery that is lined with a border of people holding hands) Some of you have joined the yahoo classmates group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dalton59/ and to those of you who have not had the opportunity to do, I would extend to you that invitation. I am not on the planning committee of the reunion, I have just started the Yahoo group to try to unite us before the event. It is my passion and also important to the others that have joined the group to connect to the rest of you before the weekend if possible. Hopefully we can get reacquainted before that time. We especially want you that live locally to be involved as you have a lot to share with us about our hometown and your lives. We want to make this a weekend to remember and each of you are a very important part of my life. Many of us spent 12 years together and have made many memories. Lets make the most of our time together. Those of you that are not online please write me or call me so we can reconnect in the next year either by phone or letter. I am not sure what the plans for the reunion are but there was a survey sent out last fall. I have not heard the results but hopefully they will be forthcoming soon. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon by email, (pjlee123@...) phone or letter. Patricia Dearolf Lee 1420 Osprey Lane Lutz, Fl 33549 706-455-4912 cell

Reunion date forthcoming
Thanks gwen for the update. We will look forward to updates when you get them. -------Original Message------- From: Gwen Meier Date: 5/12/2008 7:59:31 PM To: dalton59@... Subject: Re: [dalton59] no longer a yahoo virgin It is a tradition at DHS for the 50th class reunion members to attend the commencement on Sunday afternoon for the current graduating Senior class. That is why we are waiting for the exact date. We should know that date pretty soon. Gwen ----- Original Message ---- From: Patricia Lee net> To: dalton59@... Sent: Monday, May 12, 2008 1:14:05 PM Subject: Re: [dalton59] no longer a yahoo virgin Welcome to the group Weasel (and just where did that name come from?) I am trying to remember some other nicknames... was there Slink and Cash and Friction? I am sure many others so if any one can add to and tell how the names came about that would be fun and interesting. Thanks for adding your opinion regarding the timing on the reunion, that is a good point! Hope that it will be read by the right people. Check out the data base link at the left of the yahoo page click on it and then click on group contacts to see all of the classmates email and etc that I have up to date. Oh and PS now that I have your attention: Does anyone know where to find Norman Yoder. He is the only one I have no info on. -------Original Message----- -- From: jhdouglas59 Date: 5/12/2008 3:49:37 PM To: dalton59@yahoogroup s.com Subject: [dalton59] no longer a yahoo virgin Although I am an MSN user, I have now mastered the yahoo signup routine (I think). Why does this message show 7:34 pm when it is only 2:34 pm CST? What time zone is yahoo on? Must be the twilight zone. Another computer mystery for me. So what's the scoop for the big 50 next year? For those of us outside the Dalton metro area, I think some of us may have some conflicts with the dates suggested (due to grandchildren high school graduations at the same time as the reunion). I went back to Dalton last week for a few days and saw only one classmate (John Hare). I don't know if he is part of the yahoo group but he did give me his e-mail address. Let me know if you want to contact him by e-mail. Since I live in Texas where we get either drought or floods, I was impressed by how green Ohio is in May. I have only mowed my lawn once because of our drought, but the Ohio lawn freaks seem to mow their lawns every other day because of the rain and good soil. Our soil is mostly rocks and caliche so real grass is nonexistent. I used to be meticulous about our lawn when we lived in Ohio or the frozen tundra in Wisconsin (where we lived for 9 long years). That's all my humdrum news for the day. Glad to be part of the group now. Keep me posted. John (aka Weasel) Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now.

Thanks for the memories
2
Thanks for the information Weasel. I am sure there will be more forth coming. I have been looking back at our class of 59 booklet that was put out and I found some interesting tidbits. Did you know that Eunice Steiner got the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Award? I would love to know just how much Eunice has used that award to shape her future. Another nickname was Corrine Corky Kurzen. Now where did that name come from? And Louella Cookie Shane. Would love to hear more about the history of those names too. Correction on the spelling of the Hare's nickname ...its Schmink! I have a note of Lanny Royer being called Spook and Lynn Weikert being called Nose. Gerald Snyder was Zeeke and Jim Forrer was Slick. Yes I am cheating and looking at one of the pages in the senior book. Thanks Gwen for sharing that funny story. Coach McFarren was a treasure we all got to enjoy. Those teachers are rare today. Keep the memories coming!

Norman Yoder (Norm!)
I have been trying to locate Norman Yoder. Pat Lee said she cannot locate him. I searched msn.com and found Norman Electric Inc at 15081 Salt Creek Road, Apple Creek, Ohio 44606. Phone numbers 330-359-5886 and 330-359-7825. The president of the corporation is Norman Yoder. Could this be the Norm guy we know? John (aka Weasel)
