Re: (unknown)

Having attended College of Wooster when Danny was a Senior there, I very much remember him there as well as at Dalton. ?A great player as well as a great person - in fact I always respected the whole family.
Well, quite a start to 2010. ?We are headed to our four month hiatus to Florida via way of Bald Knob, Arkansas. ?We went there to prepare Sharon's dad's house for renting it while probate is completed. ?Woke up to a surprise Sunday morning to two inches of snow and cold weather (weatherman had not even predicted the snow so really a surprise). ?Then Monday morning another two inches. ?Well our camper was not prepared for that so we had frozen water pump. ?Also had not filled the propane before we left so we had to ration that until today so we wrapped in blankets. ?We just look at each other and say "just another experience" and work through it. We are now in Tupelo, MS where it will be in the 20's tonight. ?Heading South as fast as possible.?
As for something in Dalton this summer, will try to make it depending upon timing. ?We are looking at a trip to Scotland/Ireland for three to four weeks starting mid August but it is not firmed up yet. ??
?
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

End of the decade misnomer

jhdouglas59

When you hear the talking heads tonight talking about the end of the decade, please correct them.

The 2001-2010 decade does not end until 12/31/10.

The idiots on tv keep talking about the end of the 2000 decade.

Don't the decades start with a "1"?

Did this decade not start with 2001 (which started on 01/01/01)?

So it seems to me that if you count the decade based on 10 years
(fuzzy math perhaps), then the end of the decade is 12/31/10.

Did the twenty first century not start on 01/01/2001?

By counting on my fingers (I still have 10 digits if you count my thumbs) I calculate that the decade will end on 12/31/10.

Confused?

Have a fun Happy New Year.

Best wishes, etc.

Just sitting here reflecting on Christmases long past. Suddenly
a brief flashback came to me. Whatever happened to Aluminum
Christmas Trees? The ultimate fake Christmas tree.

Check out the Aluminum Tree and Ornament Museum website www.aluminumtree. com for a museum dedicated to aluminum
Christmas trees. There's also a video on Youtube about the museum.
They even have a scene with the charismatic color wheel
used with these trees. The museum is located in Brevard, NC.
Paul, have you been there yet?

One of the trees even has pink flamingoes surrounding the tree.
Now that's real classy. I think the flamingoes really are a
good idea. They also have an Elvis tree.

Maybe next year we will trade in our fake tree for an even
faker aluminum tree.

Save the forests and buy a fake tree. I'm sure the Chinese
fake tree manufacturers use a lot of carbon making the fake
plastic trees like I have.

Have a Merry Christmas (we still say Merry Christmas),

I have always loved the interpertation of this song so I thought I would pass it along to you with wishes for many blessings in the coming year and a wonderful Christmas day with friends and family.

I read an interesting article recently about the meaning behind the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas." It seems that from 1558-1829 people in England were not allowed to practice their faith openly.

?

It was during this era that someone wrote the song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas" as a kind of secret catechism that could be sung in public without risk of persecution. The song has two levels of interpretation: The surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to the members of the church.? Each element in the carol is a code word for a religious reality.

The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus Christ.

The two turtledoves are the Old and New Testaments.

Three French hens stand for faith, hope and love.

The six geese a laying stand for the six days of creation.

Seven swans a swimming represent the sevenfold gifts of the Spirit.

The 10 lords a leaping are the Ten Commandments.

Nine ladies dancing are the nine fruits of the Spirit (Gal.5).

The 10 lords a leaping are the Ten Commandments.

?Eleven pipers stand for the 11 faithful disciples.

Twelve drummers drumming symbolize the 12 points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

?

Let's celebrate the real reason for the season and lovingly and kindly share? Christmas with the world. This will be the best Christmas ever if we get involved.

The baby came to the manger to go to the cross to die for our sins.? Wishing each of you a Blessed Christmas.

Christmas Memories--A.T.O.M. on my wishlist

jhdouglas59

Just sitting here reflecting on Christmases long past. Suddenly
a brief flashback came to me. Whatever happened to Aluminum
Christmas Trees? The ultimate fake Christmas tree.

Check out the Aluminum Tree and Ornament Museum website www.aluminumtree.com for a museum dedicated to aluminum

John

Re: A card from Gwen Meier

Gwen,
Thank you for the lovely electronic card.? Excellent graphics and music.? Super!
?
I hope you have a safe and healthy holiday season.? Since I play for a Christmas Eve service and a Christmas Day service (10:30), the rest of the day will be spent quietly at home.? We did invite a clergy friend for supper because he leaves in the neighborhood and because he has been bringing Dave home from the clergy Tuesday morning sermon preparation group.? Dave is not allowed to drive for 6 months due to the seizure he had in his sleep October 23rd.? Dave's blood pressure was 240 over 110 when they got him to the ER (still unresponsive).? The "spot" on his brain is still questionable.? It could be a tumor but it has no characteristics of a tumor, might be lesions (he's been hospitalized twice before in the last 10 years with bp of over 240) or it could be a pool of blood.? We are thankful it was not a stroke-no bleeding in the brain at all.? The only adverse affect is that his memory and cognitive learning of new things/phrases etc is lost but it's gradually coming back.? His memory before Oct. 23 is still very good as is his IQ and humor!? The doctors will do one more MRI that will determine the chemical compound of "the spot" and compare it with live, healthy brain tissue.? That will be on Jan. 8th.? Some of the tests show electrical misfiring in the brain patterns so he is on anti seizure medication.? A new med addressing a hormone found in the adreanal gland seems to have brought down the high blood pressure while not affecting the heart rate like the beta blockers were doing.? He's not sleeping as much during the day and has more energy.? He looks good and "acts" normal.? It's only in conversation that you might detect something amiss-like repeating a thought in the same conversation.?
?
We are very thankful for the doctors down at the IU School of Medicine and for our daughter, Karmen, who insisted we pull her Dad's records and reports from the Community Hospital Systems and take him down to IU.? Since she's an assistant professore in Radiology during research, she was able to get the department heads in Endocronolgy and Neurology to see him within 10 days!? Much better than 2 months as was scheduled at Community.? Karmen has been a real blessing in interpreting all the medicalese into words we could understand.? She also comes to pick up her Dad for meals when I have long rehearsals for all the music events happening at this time of year.? So glad she leaves here on the Eastside of Indy.? On the 26th, she and her husband Todd, and Dave and I will go to Peru, just north of Kokomo to have Christmas dinner with my sister.? She and I have taken turns hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas ever since we moved to Indiana in 1990.? However, this is her first Christmas without Dick, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in March.? So it's very important we spend some time with her.
?
Thanks again for the lovely Christmas card.
?
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.
?
