Lanny,
?
Chuck suggests one way to do it and depending on your computer and word processing skills, that may be the best way to do it.? The only down side to that method is that you will have to send the completed form to the committee via snail mail (yuch!)
?
Another way is to download the Microsoft Word Files from the "Files" section of the Dalton59 Group site.?? Then save a copy of those files to a folder on your computer or to your desktop.
?
Next, open those files with Microsoft Word (or any word processing program that will read Microsoft Word files.)?
?
Now you should be able to "fill in the blanks" by editing the document.? Then re-save it with the changes and email it to the committee.

Betty:
I'll pass on your termite gift. We already have them in our house and need annual treatments. Wow! How big is the mouth of the Amazon River? It must be huge. It takes 40 minutes to fly from San Antonio to Houston, so I imagine the Amazon must be 200+ miles across the mouth of the river. Have you seen any Anacondas? Those snakes give me the creeps. The only good snake is a dead snake. Every time I see a snake in our yard I think that it is an Anaconda. We do have coral snakes here (red and yellow--dangerous fellow) and rattlesnakes I guess although I have not seen any rattlesnakes in our yard. Just anacondas and coral snakes and grass snakes. It seems weird that it is fall here and spring in Brazil. I'm ready for spring already. I don't like winters. Well, I guess the good news is that we are one day closer to spring. Question of the day: Do the monarch butterflies migrate from the U.S. as far south as Brazil? We are in the butterfly fly zone and expect the monarchs to be flying through here in the near future. Some years we have only a few, but other years there are herds of them flying through our area. I wonder what the term is for butterfly groups...maybe gaggles, swarms, bevies, flocks, bunches, or whatever. Brazil is famous for beef. Do you have many steakhouses there? I suppose like everywhere you go for some exotic foods like rattlesnakes, alligators, etc. everyone says "it tastes like chicken". Does Brazilian beef taste like chicken too? I'm sure the Brazilian beef is better than grass-fed tough Texas beef. It's hard to beat corn fed beef from the midwest. Cheers for John--Oak trees
Hi on this Arbor Day and Equinox (sun crosses the equator);
I'm glad to hear you are getting folks together to save the oak trees in Texas. I wonder if you'd like me to send you a bunch of termite larvae to take care of the infected trees real quick? Last week we spent 4 days in Macapá, Brazil, the northern side of the mouth of the Amazon river. The equator runs thru the city. We enjoyed getting into some river villages, beaches, museums,Indians, fort, and watching the River battle the incoming tide twice a day. The water level raises 10 feet. The mouth of the Amazon takes 40 minutes to fly over, or 18 hours by boat. Maybe I'll download a picture later. Today we were with the Finnish Ambassador, planting 8 trees here in Brasilia. We are going to visit an NGO that works with animals treatened of extinction--they have wildcats. Sometimes I feel like an endangered species. Enjoy autumn--we are enjoying spring flowering trees. Community Organizer
jhdouglas59
Although I'm not sure what a "community organizer" is, I think I
might be in the process of becoming one. For many years I have wondered why anyone would become a tree hugger. Guess what. I am now a tree hugger (of sorts, anyways). This saga all started with me wanting to have my live oak and post oak trees trimmed. It seemed simple enough except when the tree trimmer came to give me a bid, he counted 21 live oak trees and 15 post oak trees. Trees in Texas are priceless because they are probably 200-300 years old and provide great shade for our many hot days. The quote was outrageously expensive but I concluded that my property without properly pruned trees was not very scenic. We have a lot of ball moss on the trees, and pruning the trees makes them look a lot better (at least temporarily, until the moss grows back again). So I agreed to make the investment to beautify the trees. About 2 days later, a neighbor stopped by and informed me that 2 of his live oak trees have oak wilt, which is very deadly to live oak trees. Time marches on, and suddenly I am the community organizer (by default) to get the Texas State Forest Service to explain the oak wilt control routine to my neighbors. Now, I am planning to have a meeting with 28 neighbors (only 5 of which are contiguous to the oak wilt disease in my neighbor's yard). The problem is that the oak wilt travels through the root system of the live oak trees and advances about 100 feet per year. A partial solution would be to have a 5 foot deep trench through the five contiguous neighbors properties in a circle pattern 100 feet around the infested trees. Can you imagine trying to convince 5 people (and conceivably more than that) if the oak wilt spreads any farther)? By severing the roots around the infested trees, the theory is that it contains the problem to the current infestation. If there is no trench done, it is conceivable that the disease will eventually take out the trees on all 28 of the neighbors. Anyways, now I be a tree hugger and a community organizer (I suppose in the same vein as the Messiah Obama). I can't believe it myself. I'm a conservative wacko, but I guess I am also now a tree hugger. I do heart my trees. How about you? These Texas trees are not as tall and stately as Ohio trees as I remember them. But life without trees would be devastating. Long live the trees! The Weaselmeister P.S. After all this oak wilt problem, my tree trimming project is now on hold. |
