Lanny,
?
Chuck suggests one way to do it and depending on your computer and word processing skills, that may be the best way to do it.? The only down side to that method is that you will have to send the completed form to the committee via snail mail (yuch!)
?
Another way is to download the Microsoft Word Files from the "Files" section of the Dalton59 Group site.?? Then save a copy of those files to a folder on your computer or to your desktop.
?
Next, open those files with Microsoft Word (or any word processing program that will read Microsoft Word files.)?
?
Now you should be able to "fill in the blanks" by editing the document.? Then re-save it with the changes and email it to the committee.

I'll pass on your termite gift. We already have them in our house
and need annual treatments.

Wow! How big is the mouth of the Amazon River? It must be huge.
It takes 40 minutes to fly from San Antonio to Houston, so I imagine
the Amazon must be 200+ miles across the mouth of the river.

Have you seen any Anacondas? Those snakes give me the creeps.

The only good snake is a dead snake. Every time I see a snake in our
yard I think that it is an Anaconda. We do have coral snakes here
(red and yellow--dangerous fellow) and rattlesnakes I guess although
I have not seen any rattlesnakes in our yard. Just anacondas and
coral snakes and grass snakes.

It seems weird that it is fall here and spring in Brazil. I'm ready
for spring already. I don't like winters. Well, I guess the good
news is that we are one day closer to spring.

Question of the day: Do the monarch butterflies migrate from the
U.S. as far south as Brazil? We are in the butterfly fly zone and
expect the monarchs to be flying through here in the near future.
Some years we have only a few, but other years there are herds of
them flying through our area. I wonder what the term is for
butterfly groups...maybe gaggles, swarms, bevies, flocks, bunches, or
whatever.

Brazil is famous for beef. Do you have many steakhouses there?
I suppose like everywhere you go for some exotic foods like
rattlesnakes, alligators, etc. everyone says "it tastes like chicken".
Does Brazilian beef taste like chicken too?

I'm sure the Brazilian beef is better than grass-fed tough Texas beef.
It's hard to beat corn fed beef from the midwest.

Hello to all,

This morning I uploaded the two documents recently received from the
Reunion Committee. I uploaded them to the "files" section of the
Dalton59 Yahoo group site.

The two documents are:
1. Memory Scrapbook Letter.doc
2. Memory Scrapbook Form.doc

You should have received an email from me that contains a link you
can click on to go directly to these two files. You will need to
have Microsoft Word (or a similar word processing program) loaded on
you computer in order to view these files.

If you are able view these files, you should be able to print them.
If anyone is unable to do this, let me know and I will print a copy
and send them to you.

I have also copied and pasted the contents of the two documents
below, but the formatting is not very good, especially the formatting
of the Memory Scrapbook Form.doc, so it will be better if you can
open up the original files.

Dear Classmates:

Thinking of your 2009 vacation plans? Do your plans include our
50th class reunion?

Our last correspondence included a survey where you indicated that a
top priority for the reunion is a Memory Scrapbook. To accomplish
this, we need your response. We have attached a form for you to
complete. We suggest that you put it at the top of your "to do"
list. If possible, please complete and mail or e-mail your answers
by the week of November 17th, so our completion deadline can be met.
The book will document our development into the wonderfully mature
people we've become.

Class pictures will be included in the book. If you did not begin
1st grade in Dalton, but managed to save an elementary school picture
or childhood snapshot, please copy and forward it to us. The goal is
one individual elementary school picture of each classmate.
Candid shots of the elementary or high school years are also
welcomed. Please label pictures with the name of the student(s), and
indicate if you want them returned. Also,
did you happen to save a Prom Dress, Band or Letter Jacket, Sport
Jersey, Cheerleading Outfit, etc? Put it on, have someone take a
picture of you. (O.K., hold it and have someone take a picture of
you) and send it to us.

We want everyone to respond, whether you plan to attend or not, so we
have a complete record of our class. If you need motivation, imagine
this as an assignment from Miss Campbell. If you fail to respond, we
reserve the right to "manufacture" answers for you and find suitable
pictures to display. (just kidding)

You will be receiving more info as time goes on and plans are
confirmed. We look forward to hearing from you SOON.

Sincerely,

Community Organizer

jhdouglas59

Although I'm not sure what a "community organizer" is, I think I
might be in the process of becoming one.

For many years I have wondered why anyone would become a tree hugger.

Guess what. I am now a tree hugger (of sorts, anyways).

This saga all started with me wanting to have my live oak and post
oak trees trimmed. It seemed simple enough except when the tree
trimmer came to give me a bid, he counted 21 live oak trees and 15
post oak trees. Trees in Texas are priceless because they are
probably 200-300
years old and provide great shade for our many hot days.

The quote was outrageously expensive but I concluded that my property
without properly pruned trees was not very scenic. We have a lot of
ball moss on the trees, and pruning the trees makes them look a lot
better (at least temporarily, until the moss grows back again). So I
agreed to make the investment to beautify the trees.

About 2 days later, a neighbor stopped by and informed me that 2 of
his live oak trees have oak wilt, which is very deadly to live oak
trees.

Time marches on, and suddenly I am the community organizer (by
default) to get the Texas State Forest Service to explain the oak
wilt control routine to my neighbors. Now, I am planning to have a
meeting with 28 neighbors (only 5 of which are contiguous to the oak
wilt disease in my neighbor's yard).

The problem is that the oak wilt travels through the root system of
the live oak trees and advances about 100 feet per year. A partial
solution would be to have a 5 foot deep trench through the five
contiguous neighbors properties in a circle pattern 100 feet around
the infested trees. Can you imagine trying to convince 5 people (and
conceivably more than that) if the oak wilt spreads any farther)?

By severing the roots around the infested trees, the theory is that
it contains the problem to the current infestation. If there is no
trench done, it is conceivable that the disease will eventually take
out the trees on all 28 of the neighbors.

Anyways, now I be a tree hugger and a community organizer (I suppose
in the same vein as the Messiah Obama).

I can't believe it myself. I'm a conservative wacko, but I guess I
am also now a tree hugger. I do heart my trees.

How about you?

These Texas trees are not as tall and stately as Ohio trees as I
remember them. But life without trees would be devastating.

Long live the trees!

The Weaselmeister

P.S. After all this oak wilt problem, my tree trimming project is
now on hold.

I still have my organ playing job on Sundays.? Not ready to retire from that job either.

Subject: [dalton59] Regarding the request for memory book. information. ....

I know I am slow but I just found and opened the read only file on
the request for photos and personal info for the memory book the
class committee is trying to put together. I wanted to copy and
paste it into the yahoo group but READ only means just that. I hate
being unable to control!

Please let me know if you did not receive it and perhaps I can
forward it to you. Hopefully it is being sent to all the classmates
who are not on line also and that the address list will be helpful to
the committee.

Paul the letter looks great, I like it a lot, just spell my maiden
name right. DEAROLF..... .dont know if I told this story but it was
always frustrating when my name would get mispelled or mispronounced
and I one day made a proclamation to my mother "when I get married I
am changing my name to something simple" That desire came true and
its been a great relationship! So watch out what you proclaim, be it
positive or negative.

Lanny I played the song in my head when I read your message. I
always loved that song and I can hear you singing it now (but not
then) I am sure you sang it with much conviction.

Also check out the picture that Betty Falb posted. For some reason
I did not see that either. Betty you look great and now we all have
to compete with that?

I will probably not be home before the request for photos has to be
in but I think they should use some that were posted by Corrine.
They were great!

Anyone heard from or talked to Cat lately? OH and Paul I am not
sure if I was the only tea pot in the operetta. I may have been one
of three I dont remember! I dont want that to be my claim to fame!
But yes that is still a fun song to do the motions to for the
grandchildren. I do remember one year singing a solo on the stage "I
saw MAMA kissing Santa Clause"

Well this is just a whole lot of thoughts I am catching up on. I
would love to hear from some of you that were writing more when we
got started. Like HELLO Nancy W...where are you and Eunice way over
there is Switzerland. Corrine catch us up on your life again. I
love hearing from all of you. Oh and Paul where is Tyrell NC
anyhow? Can you tell I am too lazy to look it up. We hope to
leave sometime in October to head up MD way and will probably stop in
Dalton so let me know if anyone else is headed that way for a
rondevous'.

Most of all let me know if you did not get the request online for the
Memory Book information and I will send it to you. Hope all of you
that were in the way of the storms were missed by them. Love and
Prayers...pjlee

You are so right!? You've seen the saying "Organists (musicians) never retire.? They just go from bar to bar."!

Hey, Addie -
?
In my experience, organists don't retire until they are 83+ years old.? You still have a long way to go!

I found the memory scrapbook form and have printed it out.? I'm assuming that when I'm ready to do so, I can fill it out and e-mail it back to Cookie Shane Birkbeck thereby passing up the need for snail mail.

Hi Addie,
?
This subject has been tossed around a bit, but just to clarify, there is no Class Memory book....yet.?? The letter and form that we are talking about is a request from the reunion committee for information that can be used to compile such a book.

Patrcia,
?
How do I find the class meory book to read?? And where did you see Betty's picutre?? Can't find that either!? By the way, when I click on database, I can't get into the next screen, it keeps telling me invalid password or invalid group.? Don't know how many accounts I've set up trying to be valid.? What have I missed?? Many months ago, Paul called me at work to walk me through the steps to get into the dalton59@yahoogroups which eventually worked even though I got into a pregant mothers group page!? He couldn't figure that one out either.? Finally, I got deleted from that page!? After many times of trial and error, he figured out it would be best for me to try getting on the the class group on my earthlink e-mail at home.? That has worked but I only see mail from John Douglas, Lanny Royer, Paul, Linda, Gwen and yourself.? Oh, and Keith.
?
You and Paul helped me out of the earlier predicament.? Maybe you can help me with these "mysteries".? By the way, don't know how long I'll have access to the work e-mail because the company is closing its doors after 40 years.? I've been there the last 18.? All 40 workers were terminated on Sept 12th and two office people were terminated the next day.? I worked this week and Tom said he would call me over the weekend when he wanted me to come in next week.? He's thinking in terms of putting me on an hourly wage because there is work to be done but not 40 hours/week.? I think he assumes I'll retire but I really would like to find some part-time work for another year or so.? I'm not that great on computers (obviously!) but I would like to think there might be a company interested in hiring someone who types 120 words a minute.?
