Re: DQ10 Cross values

I redid two sets of Dq10 xo recently using s clarity caps from madisound and some resistors from parts express. If u send me contact I’ll forward parts lists and images with instructions. We just went thructhis couple was ago so should still be on this site?

When I look at all the entries in the Database for DQ10 crossover values, they seem all over the road. Is there a definitive source for making sure, before I buy them, that I'm have the correct values? Should we also consider cleaning up this page so there's no misinformation there? My serial numbers are 47627 and 47624 in case they changed over time. I upgraded my xovers on another pair 12 yrs ago but don;t have the documentaion anymore, and I do recall having to piggyback some of them to achieve the correct values (would prefer not to have to do that anymore).

As for brand, I used Solens before. Open to suggestions on other brands, however, I'm in my 60's so spending big $$$ on a caps probably won't even be noticed by my aging ears. My goal is to primarly replace parts that have aged out and no longer up to spec.

I need some advice. The DQ-10 has a published nominal impedance of 8 Ohms. I understand this to be an average number.? Somewhere along the line, I’ve picked up that the actual impedance of the DQ-10 varies greatly. Is this correct?? Can you share your knowledge of impedance measurements of a DQ-10 vs frequency?

I’ve attached a stock example from an unknown speaker as an example of what I’m looking for. Please excuse my finger scribbling the word “example”.?

This is the published impedance curve for the DQ-10 from their literature:

Re: DQ-10 Speaker Buzz Crackle at certain frequencies

Whoa - before you start unsoldering stuff, pop the grills off and do a thorough check of all the surrounds, cones, and wire connections to the terminals of the drivers. Play something that generates the sound with the grill off and see if you can narrow it down to a specific driver. At a minimum you've pinpointed where the issue is occurring?vs a scattergun approach.

Unsolder all the speaker wires at speaker and then run one at a time to find the culprit?

Re: Introduction for lurking member. Sun Valley, Idaho area.

Trust me on this. You want to hear a pair of the 10's that have new or fairly new capacitors in the crossovers. I have owned several Dahlquist models and the 9's (not the 9c's) and the 10's rule especially the 10's. Once you hear them you will insist on getting a pair.

Hi there! ?I have lurked here for a while and figured I would do an introduction. ?I am Steve, aka sunvalleylaw on lots of audio and guitar forums. ?I have had Dahlquist speakers since I was 21 and bought my first pair of DQM-5’s with the nextel finish and cabinet with the “cheeks” from Magnolia Hi-Fi on Roosevelt in Seattle. ?I still have those, and they have been re-foamed. ?

I have since added two pair of m903’s, because they are useful as rears in my main system when I am watching TV/video and using my 2 channel system for that, and because they are just nice in smaller spaces, and because I couldn’t pass either pair up for the prices they were being offered.

My flagship pair is my m907’s I bought from a vintage audio guy in Boise, who had carefully refoamed them, and had too many speakers. ?Got them for only 150 which I thought was pretty good, already being refoamed, being in good cosmetic shape, and having the original matching stands. ?

I don’t have any of the sexy 10’s or 20’s or alternatively shaped Dahli’s. ?But I love my more conventionally shaped ones! ?

Will be considering doing some re-capping, and so am hear to learn. ?None of mine have been re-capped, and so I wonder if I should do that, especially with my beloved DQM-5’s, which have always blown me away at how good they are, and how they give that almost spooky imaging, being lonely lowly 2 ways. ?I guess Regnar offers some sort of upgrade to that model. ?

But want to learn before I try to do anything, when nothing is really broken right now. ?

Cheers!

2/6.0 ufclarity blue, 1-6.8uf,1-15uf, 1-8.2 uf,1-80 or 82 uf, don’t mess with piezo caps they are good hi grade film caps and not bad. Just change to mills resisters. Just double the order for both cross .. end of story. It’s about 49 min each starting from woofer side and work over.?
