I did the restore and now do not get the callbook error.

Trying to do this, but in step 2, the check box for "Permit uploading of QSO's already uploaded to LOTW" is greyed out.

Re: Launcher slow to load

+ AA6QY comments below

Several weeks (maybe months) ago, I noticed that Launcher was slow to load after a reboot. Slow means several minutes. Actually I believe the Launcher did load but the app did not show up on the desk top. After several minutes, Launcher would appear and all would work great. If I closed launcher and re-launched Launcher would still be slow. Launcher would show as running in Task Manager even though the app would not display on the desk top. If I click on the Launcher icon, it would say that DXLabLauncher was already running. After the computer has been running for about 30 minutes or so, this behavior went away and all seemed normal.

For various reasons, I recently rebuild the computer. With minimal apps installed (browsers, email client, sound card drivers, etc...) I did a fresh install of Launcher. The behavior is the same. I don't know about after 30 minutes yet, though. There is no error log file. An exception has been added to Windows Defender. This is a Win10 Pro machine with the latest patches.

Suggestions?

+ As diagnostic step, please reboot Windows into "Safe mode with networking", and then start the Launcher. Any change in behavior?

Sure, if that's an option. I was not offered that option. As I
mentioned in another thread, Windows Defender seems to have changed

Another Way For Antivirus to Get You

开云体育

A number of programs will "offer" you additional goodies such as McAfee AV, etc. They do this by default rather than allowing you to 'opt in'. Be aware and 'opt out" if you are already running an AV. If you end up with TWO (or more) AV programs running on your PC, you will have major issues, not only with getting files quarantined but with being able to uninstall the offenders.

Upon further review when doing a lookup in DXKeeper I get Callbook Error: Not connected to Pathfinder. Is this related?

Update: I changed the name of Commander1440.exe to Commander.exe and got Commander to launch and did the upgrade to Commander1455.exe. Now the old rename of 1440 to Commander.exe is in the folder with Commander1455.exe. Shud I now delete the renamed 1440 file and then rename the 1455 file to Commander.exe? How can I see what Commander is actually running?

Carl,

open up Windows Defender, go to History, check Quarantined items, press the View details button. Locate the entry for the quarantined Commander.exe (probably labelled Trojan:Win32/Azden.B!cl), select it and press the Restore button.

I can't help noticing you recommend using other than Microsoft's products for anti-malware.

From a security standpoint this may be true (I don't have the expertise to judge) but in the past four years I have only had one single case of false positives and one performance related issue (which was easily solved using a manual exception) using the firewall and anti-malware built into Windows 10 with ham radio software.

On this and other reflectors I frequently see fellow hams suffering from false positives, performance etc. with non-Microsoft anti-malware products.

So, at least in my particular case, I have been more happy (and spent far less money) relying on Microsoft also in this area also.

+ Over the past ~2 weeks, there has been a marked upswing in false positives in Microsoft anti-malware applications, accompanied by the autonomous removal of DXLab executables. To the extent that ops respond to these as recommended in

+ this would be harmless, but a serious diagnosis coming from a previously trustworthy Microsoft application has stampeded several ops into over-reacting. Several are now re-installing Windows on their C: drives.

On March 23rd I made 8 FT8 qsos. I uploaded all 8 on the 24th to the lotw site, just like I've done hundreds of other times.
2 of the qsos went to U and then to Y like they are supposed to. The other 6 are still at U as I type this. I have tried to send these 6 qsos one at a time to the lotw site by right clicking and selecting upload to lotw, but I get an error message that says it's already been uploaded to lotw.
I just checked the LOTW site and the 2 qsos that set y on lotw sent are there, but these other 6 are not.
Other than deleting the current qsos, and inputting manually, is there something else I might try?

+ LotW was having "problems" at that time. To recover,

1. in the Filter panel at the bottom of the Main window's "Log QSOs" tab, click the LoTW button; this will populate the Log Page Display with all QSOs submitted to LoTW, but not yet accepted by LoTW

2 on the "QSL Configuration" window's LoTW tab, check the "Permit uploading of QSOs already uploaded to LoTW" button

3. on the Main window's QSL tab,

3a. set the "QSL Via" panel to LoTW

3b. click the "Add All" button

3c. a small window will inform you that the Log Page Display is filtered, and ask if you want this filter removed; click the No button

3d. another small window will ask if you want to generate QSL queue entries for X Log Page Display QSOs; click the Yes button

4. click the "Upload to LoTW" button

This matches my experience with W10. The only other time Windows
Defender has tripped was with JT-Alert. Since I'm not as familiar
with the "production facilities" of that package like I am with DXLab,
I elected to live without the software rather than trying to figure
out if it was a false alarm or a legit threat. When it tripped again
this week on Commander, that was a different story - no Commander
would mean, basically, no ham radio. :-)

I did post here right at the beginning of the flood and it was
immediately apparent that either Commander was infected with a
non-COVID-19 virus or there was a problem with Windows Defender.
Clearly, it's the latter. The virus checker checker Dave posted at
this link quickly made that clear:

Before "fixing" Commander, I did back up my TQSL certs and my log as
well as saving the registry settings for all DXLab components to my
Dropbox account. Log and TQSL backups are regular (actually, the log
is backed up whenever I run DXKeeper) but the registry stuff isn't
done by me frequently enough.

What's most annoying is that Defender's MO seems to have changed. I
never had the opportunity to white-list Commander, manually quarantine
it, or anything, even though that's part of that program. Defender
just "took it away". Googling around, I couldn't even figure out
where its quarantine directory is.

Still, I have no intention of simply marking favored programs as "OK"
preemptively. That's no way to run a railroad. And I have no plans
to buy software to do Defender's job.

You dont say whether you are in fact hiding file extensions, as Dave alluded to, but your remark is suspicious.
If that is the case, then you have now named your file "CI-V Commander.exe.exe" (without the quotes.)
As a quick check, rename the and remove the .exe so the .exe is _not_ in there.
