I have two TR-3s, 10nnn and 12nnn serial numbers, and the gear immediately behind the lexan dial is metal.? The small gear on the shaft from the PTO is also metal but I think all of them are.? The

Though I no longer have a TR-4C, I always paired that xcvr with an RV-4C external VFO/spkr cabinet. Listen on one VFO and tx on the other - problem solved. Essentially gives you "rit" on steroids.
