Re: CORRECTION. [DRAKE-RADIO] Outer Coaxial Jacket Removal for a Long Length
I should have said soldering GUN. ?The tip is also excellent for cutting double braided dacron or nylon rope.

Re: Outer Coaxial Jacket Removal for a Long Length
I wouldn't bother. The radio waves don't care. Ask anyone in the end-fed half wave crowd. They know how easy it is to make the coax radiate. What you will need is a common mode choke a quarter wave down the shield.

Re: Outer Coaxial Jacket Removal for a Long Length
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have really good luck using a sharp box cutter to first rotate the coax under the knife, pressing hard enough to cut the insulation but not hard enough to cat the braid. Then I cut a lengthwise cut in the same way. The insulation rolls off comfortably leaving the braid undamaged. I have stripped several feet from a piece of coax using this method.Of course, use a knife that is sharp enough to require care during use. Gary W0DVN

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe DR7 is such a fragile board, a true PITA to work on, I would leave it alone if it works. Those two capacitors are only there to prevent oscillation of the regulator and serve no function in offering the correct voltages on either end of the regulator, unless shorted of course.?A working DR7 is a DR7 best left alone! Re: TR-7 missing digit's on display
I believe those Rubycon caps are originals. I have seen Richy and Rubcon caps in a lot of Drake gear. Thats is what was in my TR7 when I replaced them 5 years ago. Even back then they had considerable leakage. I see some 1979 date codes on your chips. ~44 years for an electrolytic cap is probably pushing your luck.

Re: TR-7 missing digit's on display
Well after goofing around with the voltage regulators connectors I now have display again. Do these yellow electrolytics look newer or are they original?? Not sure why the connectors didn't clean yesterday when I pulled out the board, but happy it's working. Now back to the 75A4 that someone rewired V5.? Thanks,? Eric? K8cca? |

Re: TR-7 missing digit's on display
When you say "almost" it sounds like the displays are on and correct but DIM. If cleaning the connectors doesn't fix the issue, note that there is a 7805 regulator that only feeds the displays. It has the usual 10uf electrolytic cap on its output and probably one on its input. Might be time to break out ye old VM and check to see if you have 5 volts on the output of that regulator. I suspect those electrolytic caps may have finally given up.
