DTMF 3 and 6 not being decoded
#file-notice
Recently installed most current version of Hamvoip. Running on a RPi3b+ with a Dinah and a Kenwood TM-G707. Everything works great when I use my 2nd G707 and I can see all DTMF being decoded properly in the CLI. When I use my Baofeng UV5 HT, my TYT, or my Retevis I am unable to get 3 and 6 to decode. I've set my levels properly using the PDF and video. Everything else decodes fine. I've muted DTMF on the HT's as well and I've checked to make sure they are in Wideband. What am I missing here? Why is only 3 and 6 not decoding. All the others decode correctly every time. Any help would be appreciated. I know people are using Baofengs to access their node. How? BTW, I've followed the guides with no luck. Everything else is decoded fine and it decodes fine with my 'quality' HT's Scott/KG6LJY Thanks.

TM-271a with Paul board - no tx
4
Greetings, I have a PAUL board connected to a Kenwood TM-271a via the internal pads (not the mic/speaker connection) https://www.arcomcontrollers.com/documents/rc210/tm-271a_mod.pdf - RX works, I can decode APRS messages without issue. - PTT seems to work, at least the radio goes into Busy state (but doesn't show OnAir - not entirely sure if this is correct or not) TX is where I run into the issue. I can trace the audio signal to the PKD pad of the radio but a nearby HT doesn't pick up any signal. Windows Sound settings are all at 100% and I turned the Audio out Pot to max signal. Does anyone know if the PAUL board has enough drive for the internal data connector of the TM-271? is PTT acting correctly (busy instead of OnAir?) Thanks 73, Marcel

Proof of Concept - Dinah & ALLSTAR on a brand new Yaesu DR2X fusion repeater.
11
Hi guys, Not much activity on [email protected].. I may be shaking up the message count shortly. *PRELUDE- * Our ham club group took delivery of 2 Yaesu DR2X Fusion repeaters. They were purchased to replace 2 VERTEX VRX-7000 50 watt repeaters. Vertex is no longer Yaesu and in fact, was purchased by MOTOROLA, My opinion is Motorola purchased Vertex simply to eliminate competition. This spring, our Vertex repeater required service, an intermittent. We could not find any support, sources for factory parts and so on. Repair was completed at a personal cost that had it not been volunteered would of cost more than a new repeater. I brought one of the new Yaesu DR2X's home to see what I can do with it. I had many questions as the DR2X repeater manual fails to answer many questions short, of 100% Yaesu methodology of X-wires or special $200 internet boards. Yaesu wants to sell Yaesu. *HOME WITH THE NEW TOY- * Because of a club build, I have built 5-6 SHARI's, a DINAH, and other dongles using WB2EDV's printed circuit board. Plus the VRX7000 repeaters are configured with DMK -URI-x interfaces. I had put together a DINAH to use with my Yaesu FT-817's and also have a Kenwood TM-V7 which uses the DINAH 6 pin cable. So I looked at the DINAH 6 pin cable and the DR2X rear connectors - 15 pin DB 3 row connector and a 10 pin miniature DIN..I had neither but ordered both. and they arrived just before the weekend. Out of the box came the new DR2X on my workshop bench. I programmed it, added dummy loads to both TX outputs and played with it Analog and Fusion using no receive antennas and listening to leakage from the Dummies. I have 2 fusiion radio's, one a HT and 2 analog HT's (actually 11-15 analog HTS). So I put the repeater on a cart, dummy loads, cables and wheeled it from the workshop to the ham shack. Time to try my experiment. I shut down my SHARI ALLSTAR node sitting on top of my 4 drawer file cabinet; removed the SHARI. Installed the DINAH to my RPI3 and rebooted. Listening to the output of the DR2X on a HT.. NOTHING.. I SSHed into my RPI and clicked to Run Simpleusb-tune-menu application. There I selected "V" and saw my COS was ACTIVE. I knew it was not, so I clicked on menu selection "J" Change COSFROM (currently USBINVERT) to just plane USB.. Immediately the DR2X repeater spat out my IP address and voice ID.. I played with it for a while. I found that the Digital audio is a bit higher level at the DINAH than the analog, as I have the repeater set for AMD - Auto mode selection in receive but Fixed Analog FM output. That way anyone rich or poor can use the repeater. I then tested it Saturday evenings with a check in to the Blind Hams net and got good audio reports. I may attempt a AGC circuit on the receiver output to the Dinah mic input. To equalize audio levels between digital and analog. *CONCLUSIONS * Proof of concept works I only used 1 cable to interface it to the DINAH and to convert from my SHARI to DINA-DR2X repeater operation took only one software switch change. I will be playing with this further, perhaps figuring out a AGC circuit for receive audio. On the air tests is one thing, but ALLSTAR across the internet will require finding an assistant and making adjustments- receiving audio quality reports from 2 locations. So it a work in progress but single mode Fusion or Analog it works great! It's only when the repeater is switching between the 2 that analog audio out the back changes. I may call Tech Support tomorrow to see if there are audio level adjustments internal to the DR2X. Regards, Larry W8LM

Alinco DR-735

Hi: Someone on a local repeater was asking if the Alinco DR735 with it's DIN connector has the same audio quality as the older DR135. Anyone have experience with this radio used in combination with a DINAH? Thanks and 73 N2DYI

DINAH ICOM-IC7100 Lessons Learnt
First of my thanks to Steve-N8AR in taking the time to call me to get my Dinah working. My symptoms were flaky COS status detection and no transmit of any kind from the linked radio. I want to document my learnings here so that others who run into this can solve it. The correct setting for COS on this radio is USBINVERT. In addition, 1. Ensure that the RF/SQL knob is centered before attempting any COS status checks. Sometimes software like FLRIG can adjust these settings, but the physical button will not reflect it. So manually move the RF/SQL turn the knob back and forth to the center position to ensure that it is correct. 2. Set the radio mode to FM-Data. Without this, my Raspberry pi was receiving transmissions from my HT via the ICOM (when I was doing the RX level tests) , but no audio in the other direction. KE8UEX

DINAH versus WX3in1 miniDIN connector wiring
I have been asked if a cable designed for connecting a WX3in1 (6 pin miniDIN) to an Alinco radio packet connector (9 pin dsub DE9) will work with DINAH (6 pin miniDIN) I have done sone research and discovered that the 6 pin miniDIN wiring is different. Here is how the 6 pin miniDIN connector is wired on DINAH (per the Japanese "standard" for a typical radio): Here is the WX3in1 6 pin miniDIN connector wiring: Steve - N8AR

Sqelch Open attached to VOLUME DOWN in Schematic
12
So I'm hitting the standard problem in Windows that Pin6 of the DIN is connected to the VOLDN pin on the CM119B in DINAH. This results in the volume being turned down every time the squelch opens on the radio. So here is the question: Why didn't DINAH use one of the available GPIO pins instead of VOLDN? Is it because the software that is typically used with DINAH doesn't support that? I'd love to use DINAH on Windows. I'm perfectly happy to update the client software to support a GPIO in open source projects. I'm an embedded software developer, and I've recently re-joined the Windows team at Microsoft As well. So I'd be pleased to help fix this... But I'll need a bit more information on what drove that electrical decision in the schematic. And I'll need to know the key pieces of software that DINAH is targeting. I'm aware of DireWolf, but what else? COS, was Re: [DINAH] COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF COMPATIBLE RADIOS?
Speaking of that: Can the TM-G707 be configured to use squelch to drive COS rather than carrier? Somehow, I doubt it. If not, do you know of a hardware mod for either that radio or the TM-D700A to make this happen? I have the opportunity to get a TM-G707 possibly for free. I am currently using a TM-D700A as a remote base, and this is really bugging me. Sometimes, a Fusion repeater will go into digital mode and cause my remote base to key with no audio, since CTCSS is enabled, but COS is hard-wired to carrier. Also, this means I can't take advantage of repeaters with gated PL's to create a better link. This is also the case when using this radio just as a normal cross-band repeater. I realize this isn't strictly topical for the list, so feel free to write privately. On 6/13/2022 6:39 PM, Scott wrote: Confirmed working with my Kenwood TM-G707

Radios w/o a packet port
4
Hello, Currently I'm using an inexpensive USB sound dongle (C-Media) with Direwolf. PTT is handled via the RTS pin on a serial port, which is run through a transistor circuit. The radio (Alinco DR-605T) doesn't have a packet port, but I made a cable, and everything works well. I adjust input and ouput levels via alsamixer in Linux. I want to change to a different radio, which also doesn't have a packet port, but it would be easy to make a cable to adapt from the packet port on the DINAH to the radio. The DINAH is appealing because PTT is handled by the GPIO pin on the C-Media chip, so it saves a USB connection. Is there anything that would prevent me from treating the Dinah the same as my other USB sound device and adjusting levels via alsamixer? Thanks, Lee K5DAT

Kenwood TKR-750 Repeater
3
When using a Kenwood TKR-750 repeater, should the actual repeater be set up for duplex, or repeat? And was there a parameter in the Allstar Pi controller to act as full duplex repeater controller? How do I change it and where is it? Ted KB2RCW

Dinah Problem
3
Hello, I RX'd my Dinah and assembled it. I am working with a Direwolf group and mine was not digipeating or sending beacons. It is responding to my PTT requests. I have cut JP3 and verified that there is no continuity there. I don't think the audio path is working. I tried another Dinah, loaned to me by another ham, and his works perfectly. What should I do next? Thanks, Tim KA1YBS

issue with radio
hi all, i have a kenwood tmv 71, dinah and ASL node... everything was working fine up until two days ago. i can key up the ASL node via Echolink, or another user who is linked to my node can key it up, but somehow it does not key up when the radio is doing the tx.. so i can key my base radio(which is connected to the dinah and asl) from my HT, but this doe not key up the node... any advise.... on what needs to be checked in radio or ASL?

Can Dinah run as a second radio on a Shari Pi Hat?
4
I have Allstar running on a Shari Pi Hat and my plan is to implement a second node using Dinah and a Yaesu 857. In reading the Hamvoip configuration instructions they talk about configuring a second USB port for a second radio. Does this mean that I could install Dinah into my existing Shari Pi, or do I use a second Pi? 73, Don K9AQ

dtmf tones via the yaesu ft-1500
3
hi all, i am in need of some advise here. Recently built and installed an allstar node using a Yaesu FT -1500m as the base radio.. however when trying to use short dtmf codes/tones via my HT to manage the node, i can hear the tones on the radio, but they somehow do not reach the node to activate or deactivate. when tested with another opertator, he says he hears the tones on his end, but they are either very low or distorted.. kindly advised on what i missed out using this radio, or is there a setting that needs to be changed. regards J73esl
