DINAH and Kenwood Repeater 5
I would like to add Allstar to a Kenwood TKR-750 Repeater that I have access to. I am being told that it should be as simple as creating a cable DB-9 to DB-25 so that the pins for RX Audio, TX Audio, COS, PTT and Ground match up. Has anyone done this? or does anyone think that this will not work? Just looking for direction before going forward with this.

Kenwood TMV-71 Data Port Woes
Or rather, the connector on the cable is delicate! I don¡¯t yet have a Dinah, but I have been running audio into the data port on my Kenwood TMV-71A for about a year, with great results. I actually have low bass, full range audio on FM simplex now. But, be very very careful with those round connectors! I¡¯ve inadvertently damaged a couple, simply by moving things under the desk that tugged on the cable, causing it to come out of that data port on just enough of an angle to bend something. To the naked eye, I can¡¯t tell any difference, but it¡¯s just enough that the connector won¡¯t fully seat in the port now. Very frustrating! I popped the cover off my radio to see if there was perhaps something connected to the back panel that may have shifted, but nope. Those connectors are in little blocks firmly attached to the board. The next cable, and the Dinah when I get it, will both be taped down, to the desk, and cable taped to the wall at a few points along its length, to hopefully stop this from happening again. I wish radio manufacturers would either use a DB9 or ¨C and this would be a shock! ¨C switch to USB for getting audio, PTT, COS etc. in and out of radios. I now have no faith in these round connectors, which if I¡¯m not mistaken, go all the way back to the IBM PS/2. OK, rant over. 73, Chris VE3RWJ

FW: [arm-allstar] MAJOR HamVoIP UPDATE 1.7.0-01 RELEASED
-----Original Message----- From: ARM-allstar <arm-allstar-bounces@...> On Behalf Of "David McGough via ARM-allstar" Sent: December 25, 2021 3:17 PM To: arm-allstar@... Cc: David McGough <kb4fxc@...> Subject: [arm-allstar] MAJOR HamVoIP UPDATE 1.7.0-01 RELEASED Hi Everyone! After about 1.5 years worth of development effort, I have just released a MAJOR upgrade to the hamvoip-asterisk package. This package includes the Asterisk/app_rpt software, which is the software that drives AllStar. This is the biggest upgrade in at least a decade, with about 15,000 lines of changed software!! For hot-spot, repeater and node radio users, the most visible change will be improved performance over the older software--meaning fewer crashes and fewer audio pops and clicks. Hub users still running older software will notice major stability improvements. This software is currently in use on ALL the worlds biggest AllStar hubs. NOTE that if you're a user of Zoiper, DVSwitch Mobile, IAXRPT or other IAX client software, these clients may NO LONGER CONNECT without a minor configuration change on the HamVoIP node. As of this software release, the IAX2 protocol has "call tokens" ENABLED. This is a VERY IMPORTANT security mechanism, which classically was always forced off in the AllStar software. This is now changed. To allow connections from software not supporting call tokens, simply modify the iax.conf file incoming stanza. For example: ; iax.conf [iaxphone] requirecalltoken=no The whole list of changes is HUGE. Some of the highlights are: * app_rpt module -- Massive refactoring of code. Complete overhaul of internal data structures and statistical reporting code, including the AMI interface. Old highly problematic "remote base" code completely removed (a new remote base system is coming). Major changes in process threads and priority, using work queues for low-priority processing. * Echolink driver -- The longstanding "garbled audio" issue is fixed! Module unload and reload functions now work. Overall stability greatly improved. Echolink node "can't connect" issues common after the client software was just launched are fixed. * VOTER channel driver -- Major AMI performance improvements. stability improvements, including resolving some memory corruption bugs and mutex issues. * Many, many areas of the core asterisk code, including IAX2 and Dahdi -- Major stability improvements. *** Please see a partial partial release comments list at the URL, below. These are many of the changes since the last major hamvoip-asterisk package release on June 01, 2020. Note that the gaps in revisions are where I left out long/complex descriptions of algorithm changes---these are too detailed to be relevant to the general user. https://hamvoip.org/release-notes/hamvoip-asterisk-2021-12-21.html MERRY CHRISTMAS! 73, David KB4FXC _______________________________________________ ARM-allstar mailing list ARM-allstar@... http://lists.hamvoip.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/arm-allstar Visit the BBB and RPi2/3/4 web page - http://hamvoip.org

Direwolf on Raspberry PI 3 using DINAH sound card interface 4
I have configured my new DINAH. interface o na Raspberry PI 3 using the DINAH sound card interface: - https://hamprojects.info/dinah/ I used the git build of DINAH which presently is version 1.6 since the apt-get distribution is 1.4 and does not support the PTT CM108 configuration. The build steps are straightforward and support for gpsd is the default (still need to test this to use this as a tracker). Basic functionality for iGating, digipeating and static beacoing works as expected. Note that the DIANH COS indicator is not functional because it appears that Direwolf can not control GPIO 4 on the CM108/CM119 chip. I still need to get a clean autostart going but that is another project. My thanks to the DINAH and Direwolf teams. -- 73, AB1PH Don Rolph -- 73, AB1PH Don Rolph

DINAH and Direwolf 3
I would like to use my DINAH with Direwolf V1.6 which tell me that it includes optional support for hamlib cm108-ptt. I¡¯ve read the docs, I get the impression that if I added ¡°PTT CM108¡± to direwolf.conf I would be good to go.... Sadly that did not work, I obviously need to do more, so I¡¯m throwing it out there seeking guidance from the experts on how to get the DINAH to transmit under Direwolf. 73 Steve VK2ARS

FT 1500 with DINAH 5
Hi All, Anybody use a ft1500 with dinah and hamvoip? Here trying to figure what is going on Setup all and I can dial in tot hat node and the audio gets out to the radio fine, but using a handy to get to radio and then node that fails. it just triggers a keyup on the other end. No audio passes from rf to node. Any body have any advice I am all ears. This has to be a setting I am missing Regards, Frans

Dinah to Kenwood "K" connector information anyone please ? 6
Hi All, Ordered 2 DINAH interfaces but for the life of me I cannot find a pinout / circuit example to go from the DINAH mini DIN to a Kenwood handheld "K" connector (2.5mm speaker + 3.5mm mic) Anyone able to share that info please ? cant believe with baofengs etc out there that this is the first time anyones wanted to do this ? Many thanks in advance! 73 de CQU

dtmf tones via the yaesu ft-1500 3
hi all, i am in need of some advise here. Recently built and installed an allstar node using a Yaesu FT -1500m as the base radio.. however when trying to use short dtmf codes/tones via my HT to manage the node, i can hear the tones on the radio, but they somehow do not reach the node to activate or deactivate. when tested with another opertator, he says he hears the tones on his end, but they are either very low or distorted.. kindly advised on what i missed out using this radio, or is there a setting that needs to be changed. regards J73esl

Can Dinah run as a second radio on a Shari Pi Hat? 4
I have Allstar running on a Shari Pi Hat and my plan is to implement a second node using Dinah and a Yaesu 857. In reading the Hamvoip configuration instructions they talk about configuring a second USB port for a second radio. Does this mean that I could install Dinah into my existing Shari Pi, or do I use a second Pi? 73, Don K9AQ

issue with radio
hi all, i have a kenwood tmv 71, dinah and ASL node... everything was working fine up until two days ago. i can key up the ASL node via Echolink, or another user who is linked to my node can key it up, but somehow it does not key up when the radio is doing the tx.. so i can key my base radio(which is connected to the dinah and asl) from my HT, but this doe not key up the node... any advise.... on what needs to be checked in radio or ASL?

Dinah Problem 3
Hello, I RX'd my Dinah and assembled it. I am working with a Direwolf group and mine was not digipeating or sending beacons. It is responding to my PTT requests. I have cut JP3 and verified that there is no continuity there. I don't think the audio path is working. I tried another Dinah, loaned to me by another ham, and his works perfectly. What should I do next? Thanks, Tim KA1YBS

Kenwood TKR-750 Repeater 3
When using a Kenwood TKR-750 repeater, should the actual repeater be set up for duplex, or repeat? And was there a parameter in the Allstar Pi controller to act as full duplex repeater controller? How do I change it and where is it? Ted KB2RCW

Radios w/o a packet port 4
Hello, Currently I'm using an inexpensive USB sound dongle (C-Media) with Direwolf. PTT is handled via the RTS pin on a serial port, which is run through a transistor circuit. The radio (Alinco DR-605T) doesn't have a packet port, but I made a cable, and everything works well. I adjust input and ouput levels via alsamixer in Linux. I want to change to a different radio, which also doesn't have a packet port, but it would be easy to make a cable to adapt from the packet port on the DINAH to the radio. The DINAH is appealing because PTT is handled by the GPIO pin on the C-Media chip, so it saves a USB connection. Is there anything that would prevent me from treating the Dinah the same as my other USB sound device and adjusting levels via alsamixer? Thanks, Lee K5DAT

DTMF 3 and 6 not being decoded
Recently installed most current version of Hamvoip. Running on a RPi3b+ with a Dinah and a Kenwood TM-G707. Everything works great when I use my 2nd G707 and I can see all DTMF being decoded properly in the CLI. When I use my Baofeng UV5 HT, my TYT, or my Retevis I am unable to get 3 and 6 to decode. I've set my levels properly using the PDF and video. Everything else decodes fine. I've muted DTMF on the HT's as well and I've checked to make sure they are in Wideband. What am I missing here? Why is only 3 and 6 not decoding. All the others decode correctly every time. Any help would be appreciated. I know people are using Baofengs to access their node. How? Scott/KG6LJY Thanks.

COS, was Re: [DINAH] COMPREHENSIVE LIST OF COMPATIBLE RADIOS?
Speaking of that: Can the TM-G707 be configured to use squelch to drive COS rather than carrier? Somehow, I doubt it. If not, do you know of a hardware mod for either that radio or the TM-D700A to make this happen? I have the opportunity to get a TM-G707 possibly for free. I am currently using a TM-D700A as a remote base, and this is really bugging me. Sometimes, a Fusion repeater will go into digital mode and cause my remote base to key with no audio, since CTCSS is enabled, but COS is hard-wired to carrier. Also, this means I can't take advantage of repeaters with gated PL's to create a better link. This is also the case when using this radio just as a normal cross-band repeater. I realize this isn't strictly topical for the list, so feel free to write privately. On 6/13/2022 6:39 PM, Scott wrote: Confirmed working with my Kenwood TM-G707

Sqelch Open attached to VOLUME DOWN in Schematic 12
So I'm hitting the standard problem in Windows that Pin6 of the DIN is connected to the VOLDN pin on the CM119B in DINAH. This results in the volume being turned down every time the squelch opens on the radio. So here is the question: Why didn't DINAH use one of the available GPIO pins instead of VOLDN? Is it because the software that is typically used with DINAH doesn't support that? I'd love to use DINAH on Windows. I'm perfectly happy to update the client software to support a GPIO in open source projects. I'm an embedded software developer, and I've recently re-joined the Windows team at Microsoft As well. So I'd be pleased to help fix this... But I'll need a bit more information on what drove that electrical decision in the schematic. And I'll need to know the key pieces of software that DINAH is targeting. I'm aware of DireWolf, but what else?
