A really tough time with the Dinah
I have an IC-7100. IC-208H and an FT-8100 with 6 pin dins.? I am running Hamvoip with Simple USB. I am having significant problems with getting the audio from the internet to the 6pin radios out to an HT and then HT to radio to the internet....? I have swapped pi's and cables and am just flailing.? Anyway, I could use some help with ALL the settings.
?
P.S. The bad part is I had the 208H and 7100 operating fine a little over a year ago....

Garbled audio with DINAH (but not only DINAH)
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýA couple weeks ago I started having issues with garbled audio.? I have 2 DINAH on 1 system. I have a PAUL and finally was motivated to connect it and has the same issue. ? Good news is, it¡¯s not the DINAH or the computer. ? If you are running allstarlink ASL3 on a PC, the most recent updated kernel is distorting audio. The team is aware of it and the workaround for now is to pin the previous kernel for now. ? ? ALLSTARLINK V3 USERS PLEASE READ The stock kernel released with Debian Bookworm 12.9 introduces some audio problems with AllStarLink3/app_rpt. You will experience this problem in the following configuration:
? To temporarily address the issue until a permanent fix can be identified, please apply the following hotfix to your system: ? wget -O- https://repo.allstarlink.org/hotfix/asl3-deb12-kernel28-fix.sh | sudo bash -x ? Follow all on-screen directions as needed. Reboot at the completion. ? ? This does not affect pi. ? -Michael ? |
Re: MX800 Repeater
What you have currently with the Dinah using it with a transceiver it plugs into you can then run a remote mode tuned to the repeater frequency?

Re: MX800 Repeater
I do not believe DINAH has the flexibilty you would need to connect directly to your MX800 as it does not feature a standard "packet" interf ace which has standardized analog levels ind digital interfaces.
?
I suggest you join the repeater-builder group on groups.io and ask your question there.? The members there are extremely knowledgeable.
?
If you want to connect wirelessly you just need to set your radio connected to DINAH to the reverse of you repeater frequencies and use a different mode (simplex with no telemetry?) in the Allstar setup.

MX800 Repeater
Hi Guys,
?
Our club has just got hold of a Spectro MX800 2M Repeater..
The Repeater has an DB15 IO port on the back where I believe it can receive Audio In and Audio Out.
?
I would like to be able to connect this Repeater to the AllStar Network and are wondering if I could use a Dinah USB-C via a Raspberry Pi connected to the Repeater.
?
Does anyone know how I can connect this Repeater Spectro MX800 Repeater to the AllStart network ?
?
Thanks.

Re: How do I setup the Kenwood TM-V7 with DINAH?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIn addition to that, if the TM-V7 is like the TM-D700 (same vintage) then you can't make the DIN port follow squelch instead of carrier, meaning anything can make COS go high, regardless of the state of the PL decoder. If there is no tone, you'll just get COS with no audio, meaning some noise or a loose squelch can silently tie up simplex nodes. Maybe the radio can be modified to prevent that. I'm not sure. The TM-V71A has a menu option to change this behavior. The TM-D700A? doesn't, so I'm nearly positive the TM-V7 doesn't either, since the D700A had more features. I ran into an issue with my TM-D700A in linktolink mode, where it would still send COS while the radio was transmitting, which made a bunch of noise and wasted bandwidth. Again, this is fixed in the V71A when logic is set to SQL. This was less of a problem when using it as a standard simplex node (duplex=1, linktolink=no) with ASL/HamVoIP. If you're using Winlink or Direwolf, none of this matters. I had help from Masters Communications eliminating that problem.

Re: How do I setup the Kenwood TM-V7 with DINAH?
We are using a V7 in a hospital for Winlink Vara FM. We had to shave off some of the plastic hub to get the cable to seat in the plug. Kenwood later started mounting them on the rear of the radio in newer models not so recessed.

Re: How do I setup the Kenwood TM-V7 with DINAH?
The 6 pin miniDIN connector is on the front panel at the end of a round hole.? The overmold on the cable we provide is not round to a deep enough depth so you have to carefuly shave off overmold using a sharp knife so it fits in the hole.

Re: How do I setup the Kenwood TM-V7 with DINAH?
I believe the V7 has a 6pin mini din plug on it. If it does then yes it does. The 6 pin mini din maybe behind a front panel. Not sure as Kenwood did that on some of their older model dual bands.

DINAH -Demand soon to increase!! Be the 1st on your block to get one.
DEC 1- From the Hamshack of W8LM -Ice station Kansas...
Last 2-3 days Yaesu has announced 3 new rigs.? Descriptions can be found on YOUTUBE on the Ham Radio 2.0 Channel and Yaesu- John Kruk - Yaesu National Sales manager Channels.
?
Of the new 3 FM ANALOG only FM radio's the interesting one which will increase DINAH sales , is the VHF-UHF 55/50 watt mobile. The FTM-150RASP
?
One? of the new features is an receiver audio digital noise processor that brings weak signal audio up and reduces/eliminates noise.
It reminds me of switching between weak signal work? analog and moving to fusion.. There is a demo of it on the Yaesu Channel- John Kruk web cast.. If you've ever worked ANALOG weak signal and switched to Fusion, the same signal becomes crystal clear.
?
John also speaks about how many hams are not interested in digital modes and the demand for ANALOG radio's is there. Yaesu is filling the need.? I think he never mentions ALLSTAR as it conflicts with WIRES -X but he does mention you can run WIRES-X in Analog with these radios so it will work with DINAH.. He has to keep Brand Specific of course.
?
Here's the deal.. the FTM-150RASP has a 10 pin DATA port.. Yaesu sells a ($29.95) 10 pin to 6 pin data cable that will interface to DINAH.. then DINAH goes into a Raspberry PI - your Flavor and you're on ALLSTAR.
John states the 3 rigs will be available at authorized dealers the "End of November" which was yesterday.. Not like other manufacturers that announce radios and they are not stocked for 6 months.
John also mentions all Yaesu Radio's come with a 3 year warranty, So scrounging for a used rig with a data port at some hamfest? to plug in a DINAH in is no longer a crap shoot. When compared to a FUSION FTM-500 and all it takes to get on WIRES-X for worldwide communications..
?
Old poor hams like me, can have the same amount of fun, and even more with a FTM150RASP, a DINAH, and a Raspberry PI.. I have everything but the new YAESU.... Santa do you hear me???
?
Merry Christmas to all,

Re: DINAH-C not recognized by computer
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you for your reply. Unfortunately, it does not appear under Hardware > USB when connected to my MacBook Pro with Apple USB-C to USB-C cable. The only entries are USB 3.0 Bus and USB 3.1 Bus. Under Thunderbolt/USB 4 there are two ports listed, both of which show ¡°no device connected.¡± I have a couple of local resources and I will check in with them tomorrow.

Re: DINAH-C not recognized by computer
Connected to a Mac, it should appear in System Information under Hardware > USB as "USB Audio Device", where you should see information about the C-Media chip. That's what I see?on my?MacBook Air running Ventura. Martin. KD6YAM On Wed, Nov 20, 2024 at 1:20?PM Bill Clemens K7WGC via <wclemens=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: DINAH-C not recognized by computer
If you plug it into a PC, it should show up as a USB audio device under Sound, video and game controllers using a windows driver.? However, it is not intended to be plugged into a PC.? Normally , it is plugged into a Raspberry Pi and controlled by the HamVOIP or ASL3 Allstar image.? It can also be used for DireWolf (still using a Pi).
