Hey it worked. I was very lucky, after the storm, I only lost power for three days. My cable (internet) also down. It looks like all the batteries in the green amp boxes up on the poles were dead. My 3g/4g sprint device was also down. My last resort 1.2ghz DD. A real big thank you to the guys at NJ2DG, Martinsville NJ. Sure I couldent surf the net but the connection worked fine for email and facebook. Using a cradlepoint wireless access point. My wife (kb2eyn) my self (ka2oon) and my daughter were all able to stay connected, sending and receiving welfare reports. Other things like, generator, patch type TV antenna, made the aftermath no big deal, for us here. Thanks again to the guys that run the Martinsville Stack, at NJ2DG

Hi Jim,
I am in Bayonne which is close to Newark Airport. I can hit NJ2DG 2m DV repeater with 5 Watts on an HT (92AD). I have two ID-1's and would like try DD on that repeater. Can you tell me what settings you use for this?

best way to set up the rig is with a computer. however i have to use an xp mchn, because i cant find 64 bit drivers. to work martinsville dont even try if you do not have a good siginal check out the sig on 1.2 dv first. 1284.000 dv neg split down 12.000
settings for nj2dg DD freq 1250.000 mode DD RP RPS Must be RPS offset 0.000 your nj2dg rpt1 nj2dg A rpt2 nj2dg G on the face press the TXinh button so that TXinh is off
unless you are using d-star settings you MUST NOT have your computer ip set to static. if all is right so far you turn on the rig go to the channel, make sure the mode is DD and txinhib is off
disable any wireless on the computer.
unplug the cat5 cable from your router to your computer.
reboot your computer.
then plug the cat5 cable from the id 1 into your computer.
if all is well you should see the power lcds flashing power in & out. if so you are hand shaking with nj2dg
you should be able to browse the net at a slow pace if all is good
I have set up a wireless router with the id 1 using the d-star static infomation email me and ill give you that info jimmy.sull@...

Thanks Jimmy! Plan on taking one of my ID1's to work this coming week and playing with these settings. Its about 17 miles from Martinsville, but I have access to the roof tops which should help. At 12 watts I think I should hit the repeater. I'll let you know how I make out.

Hold up Joe Something going on with the nj2dg network conection. Dont go nuts, trying to get it to work, right now. Once i noticed that nj2dg was not on the 20A reflector, I started to scratch my head. So i gave the dd a shot. it looks like i am handshaking with with the repeater but no internet connection. I would say keep checking the reflector status site on the net. and dont try DD until, you see the stack back on the reflector. My guess is that they have a problem with there internet connection. Looks like Murphy is kicking you in the pants.

Thanks for the heads up, Jim! I am toying with the idea of getting a DSTAR repeater stack in the Bayonne/Hoboken area. I was thinking of a 2m or 70cm DV and a 23cm DD/DV stack. Anyway, one can dream.....
Back in April I was able to get my two ID's working together with one anchored to my home internet and the other in my van. I had full inet through a wireless router in my van. It was pretty cool. I had good coverage around Bayonne, but I never tried to see how far I could throw the signal. My roof is not the tallest structure in the area.
If you ever get bored, let me know....maybe we can try some simplex experiments.

You should set your Router or Computer, with manual settings
GATEWAY IP server 10.0.0.1
Primary DNS should also be 10.0.0.1
The Sub should be 255.0.0.0
You could set the secondary DNS to any Public Free DNS server example 208.67.222.222
When you registered your call for D-Star, your call was assigned a group of IP addresses, your router should also be assigned one of these addresses
Something like 10.105.XXX.XXX
The beauty of using a router is that you could leave your computer set to auto IP settings so you do not have to change all your IP settings when you switch back to your home service.
It would also allow more then one computer to use the connection.
So find an old router. I use a WIFI router. One cables from ID-1 to the router everything else wireless.
YOU MUST USE THE OLDER FORMAT IP SETTINGS IN WINDOWS 7 THIS IS CALLED IPV4. I do not believe that the IPV6 settings can work.

Thanks Jimmy! Plan on taking one of my ID1's to work this coming week and playing with these settings. Its about 17 miles from Martinsville, but I have access to the roof tops which should help. At 12 watts I think I should hit the repeater. I'll let you know how I make out.

best way to set up the rig is with a computer. however i have to use an xp mchn, because i cant find 64 bit drivers. to work martinsville dont even try if you do not have a good siginal check out the sig on 1.2 dv first. 1284.000 dv neg split down 12.000
settings for nj2dg DD freq 1250.000 mode DD RP RPS Must be RPS offset 0.000 your nj2dg rpt1 nj2dg A rpt2 nj2dg G on the face press the TXinh button so that TXinh is off
unless you are using d-star settings you MUST NOT have your computer ip set to static. if all is right so far you turn on the rig go to the channel, make sure the mode is DD and txinhib is off
disable any wireless on the computer.
unplug the cat5 cable from your router to your computer.
reboot your computer.
then plug the cat5 cable from the id 1 into your computer.
if all is well you should see the power lcds flashing power in & out. if so you are hand shaking with nj2dg
you should be able to browse the net at a slow pace if all is good
I have set up a wireless router with the id 1 using the d-star static infomation email me and ill give you that info jimmy.sull@

Hi Jim,
I am in Bayonne which is close to Newark Airport. I can hit NJ2DG 2m DV repeater with 5 Watts on an HT (92AD). I have two ID-1's and would like try DD on that repeater. Can you tell me what settings you use for this?

1.2 GHz DD has significantly less coverage than the 1.2 GHz DV mode. The signal is lower power and spread into about 50 times the width of the DV signal.
?
For initial testing, I¡¯d definitely recommend testing from a position where you can see the repeater antennas.

net. and dont try DD until, you see the stack back on the reflector. My guess is that they have a problem with there internet connection.

1.2 GHz DD has significantly less coverage than the 1.2 GHz DV mode. The signal is lower power and spread into about 50 times the width of the DV signal. Is there a standard 'microvolt' signal value for 1.2 GHz DD links that would give reasonable simulations using Radio Mobile Online? For wifi Mesh planning, using this chart : - a weak but sometimes useable -80 dBm signal is 22 microvolts. Where would planning for a system using ID-1's in data mode go on the chart? Thanks, Bill - WA7NWP

Hi Bill, I did some work with Splat for linux a while ago generating a coverage chart here locally. less than 1.58uV was the figure I found, so I rounded up to -100dBm. Have a look at my post from the 10th and 31'st Jan. Cheers John EI7IG It seemed to work pretty well.
