Do 23cm DD-mode repeaters link to hamnet?

Located in Germany nearby to a 23cm DD-mode repeater, I only wonder if I'd end up in Hamnet if I'd buy a (not-so-cheap-but-pretty-limited-in-function) Icom ID-1 transceiver?
Are there *any* somewhat "free" implementations of the DD-mode protocol applicable? I guess the AMBE-code isn't necessary, but maybe some other (propreitary) protocol?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: [d-star] Fwd: New Kenwood D-STAR Tri-Band HT Announced at Atlanta area Hamfest This Weekend

Well that isn't exactly what I remember.

The jist I get is promoting the Codec2 concept.? Not so much fighting D-Star.? Amateurs have been doing that on their own :-)

I can trace Codec2 back to 2008.? Since then, the biggest slap of the forehead is when Yaesu came out with their system in 2013, that again was totally incompatible with the existing D-Star, DMR and P25.

Codec2 made sense, but it has never came to be.? As much as I'd like to still see it happen, at this point it seems that everything uses AMBE, so even if Kenwood were to use it, there would still be a lot of fragmentation.

I watched Bruce Perens 2014 AMBE Exposed DCC speech.? He said key AMBE patents expire at the end of this year.

As for the Kenwood D-Star radio, I have heard that years before.? And I will believe it when I see it.

Re: [d-star] Fwd: New Kenwood D-STAR Tri-Band HT Announced at Atlanta area Hamfest This Weekend

I have to say that I like the FlexRadio way of doing D-STAR. An option takes away the "proprietary" arguments. Plus, it also allows for other "options" too. If ever CODEC2 hardware becomes a reality ...

I talked to the Kenwood rep and AA4RC at the Stone Mountain GA hamfestTODAY.

Also announced during the DSTAR Forum. Nothing on the internet as far as I
know.

It is a HT, a cross between the TH6 and TH72.

It will do DSTAR, FM and APRS, has a GPS built in like the TH72.

Tri band, 2m, 440 and 220.

Kenwood should release more info around Thanksgiving. Comes out in March
2016.

That's all I know.

Prices have dropped on ICOM DSTAR capable transceivers.

51A+ $360? - A GREAT buy for such a capable HT. Color, Anniversary
Editions are much more. The + is the current one.

880 $400 - Price went up a little

5100 $600 - Good buy for all the capability

7100 $1000 - FIRST time at below 1K ($999.95) 1/3 less than when they came
out

9100 $2500 - Not so much a drop

FLEX 6300 w/DV3000 card $2630 Unless you want to work Satellites at 100
watts SSB, the FLEX is a better buy.

FLEX RADIO with their SDR software update 1.51 fully supports DSTAR with the
use of a DV3000 USB drive plugged into a 6000 series FLEX radio. Now to do
DSTAR on a FLEX, you just click on the mode DSTAR, just like USB, LSB, AM,
CW, etc. Works great, the waterfall display really helps finding spots on
DSTAR HF. WE now have two major radio manufacturers supporting DSTAR.

DD Mode and ircddbgateway

This message I posted in the ircddbgateway newsgroup. ?I also emailed the authors.
I am running the following configuration:

G2 Icom hardware – VHF DV – UHF DV – SHF DD no DV
Original G2 software with updates overlaid with ircddbgateway software
DHCP and Static IP supported.

We have had mixed success / results and we are still learning.

I am getting the following results / logs and some users are connecting at the DSTAR protocol level, but not the TCP/IP levels. ??Various log files are included in this message.

I am quite linux literate. ?I am looking for guidance / comments from users with similar experiences.

Thanks in advance.

Keith VA3YC
Sysop VE3LSR

This was also in the log file:

M: 2015-10-04 19:38:40: Heard received from unknown repeater, VE3LSR A
M: 2015-10-04 19:38:40: Adding DD user VA3YC ???with ethernet address 00:15:B7:95:CF:F2
E: 2015-10-04 19:38:40: No space to add new DD ethernet address

We have on a DD module on our DSTAR setup, but not an DV module on 1.2Ghz.

I can send along the config if required.

Good day all

I am running the latest Centos version of ircddbgateway on Icom G2 hardware. ?Working great on DV on UHF and VHF. ?We are going through the growing pains with adding DD on SHF. ?I have enabled DHCPD.

We have three ID-1 we are testing with.

The first log sequence has been most successful and we get a DHCP address assigned.

The second and third log sequences show stations that are seem at the DSTAR protocol level, but not at the TCP/IP level – ie no DHCP address assigned. ?

When I look at the DDMode log file, I do not see entries for the last two stations. ?There are no entries for the last two in the dhcpd.lease file.

Looking for guidance or recommendations regarding DD mode setup.

In the meantime I am going to test with static ip addresses.

Thanks
Keith
