Baofeng GT-3WP
Hi and happy new year, i bought a programming cable from BAOFENG via amazon. I use the correct COM Port and the correct Model-Type "GT-3WP". But unfortunately i always get the error: "Error reading data from radio: not the amount of data we want". Does anybody knows a solution (or workaround) for the problem? 73, Burkhard |
Re: CHIRP on ?Unlocked? UV5R
Also, make sure the volume control is wide open since the programming signals go
through that control. Donald KX8K On Sat, 24 Dec 2022 05:02:15 -0800, "Jim Unroe" <jru.groupsio@...> wrote: Double-double check that you are getting the plug fully inserted in the socket. Re: CHIRP on ¡°Unlocked¡± UV5R
If it came with a CH341 driver, it is likely a WCH CH340/CH341 chip. You can usually determine which chip is in the programming cable by using the Windows Device Manager app. However I have seen Windows incorrectly load and try to use the Prolific driver when a WCH chip is present. This can be avoided by manually installing the WCH driver. Except for RT Systems, I don't recommend using the driver CD that comes with a programming cable. Many times it comes on a homemade CD with a bunch file for which the source is unknown (and a high probability of malware being found if it is scanned using an anti-virus program). What I recommend is to download any drivers that are needed from the chip vendor's website. The Miklor radio information website has links to all of the major USB-to-Serial chip vendors (FTDI, Silicon Labs, Prolific and WCH).
Now that I know that Windows can get it wrong, I am in the habit of manually installing the latest drivers (except for Prolific I install the v4.3.0.0 driver) from each chip vendor before I plug in the first USB chip based programming cable. If you have already installed the WCH CH340/CH341 driver and verified with Device Manager it is loading, then you most likely have an incomplete connection between the? 2-pin plug of the programming cable and the speaker/mic connector of the radio. To understand why I am saying this, leave the 2-pin plug unconnected with the radio and attempt a download. The same "Radio did not respond" error will be encountered. Double-double check that you are getting the plug fully inserted in the socket. I can remember when I would swear that my programming cable was fully inserted into my UV-82 and it wouldn't work. I eventually wiggled and pressed the plug and was dumbfounded when it finally snapped in the rest of the way. Some have been known to have to put pressure on the plug during the cloning process. I've used one of those cheap "Octopus" (multiple connector tips) types with the CH341 driver on a Baofeng UV-5R, and it worked fine (finding the correct driver was an issue, though). I also have a cable with an FDTI chip that gave me no problem. People generally have the least amount of problems with cables that have the FDTI chip. Re: IC-91A
The call sign helps us know where you're from, and that you're a licensed ham
radio operator. It's not an absolute requirement but it's nice to know more about our members. Sometimes it comes in handy knowing where you're from. If you were asking about a certain part for a radio in a repair forum, we would try to find a source close to your QTH to avoid expensive shipping costs. It also would help in some groups to know that you're not a CB-er wanting to put a 100W HF radio on the citizens band. We probably wouldn't help you do that. (If you really like freedom and don't need any guard rails, and don't mind crashing and burning sometimes, try Linux!!!) Most times, things work. Sometimes we have some software or driver installed that interferes with another item. Most of the time it comes back to bad or sloppy code written by someone. (Microsoft does have its share of issues, like reassigning COM ports with Windows Updates, and a few other things like trying to get you to keep the Edge browser.) Glad you got it sorted out, though. I have used both CHIRP and RT software. RT's software seems more refined, but I would bet it's based on CHIRP, or was inspired by it. Re: Yaesu FT 1500
Hi Donald,
I tried increasing the volume and it seems to work.? It's a little buggy. When I'm done u/l to the radio, it shuts off automatically.? I'm not sure if that's the way it's supposed to work, but all of the memories got programmed.? I haven't tried to d/l the memories to the computer.? I'll wait until it's necessary.? I had the computer volume turned pretty high (85) and I turned it to 96, so maybe that was the difference.? The radio has pretty good output, so I just increased it 1/16 of a turn higher.? When this is working, it is a lot easier to add memories to the radio!! Thanks for your help, Bob NE0CQ |

Most of these program through the volume control, and if it's not turned all the way up, it may not get the data through. It should be the same way for either direction, though, so unless you turned it down after downloading data from it, it should be at the same setting for downloading the data as well as uploading it. Re: TYT-9800D upload with CHIRP
The tyt-9800, no ¡°d¡± is listed as a supported radio at chirp.danplanet.com. Try uploading from your tyt-9800d using that model, and if that works, SAVE A COPY OF THE EMPTY RADIO, then copy the data across from the other radio tab, and download to the tyt-9800. Save this file under a new name.

Or is there a way to import the CHIRP file into the TH-9800 software and then upload the file to the radio? You can't likely use CHIRP to upload to the TYT. Unless the TYT is close enough to another TYT that CHIRP supports. What you may be able to do is to open both programs, and copy and paste rows from CHIRP into the program used by TYT. That will work well if all the fields are the same. If not, you may have to copy and paste sections at a time, possibly filling in some fields manually. That group has a lot of members, and if you can't find a specific group for your radio that needs to be repaired, this is a good place to see if you can get some help. There are some others, too, worth joining. Just search for your interests and join the ones you feel may be helpful.
