I don't see any of the Icom receivers supported. It might be possible
to pick an Icom transceiver, then try to download the memory database
from your 8600, and see if you can do that. If so, then you might be
able to make changes and upload it to the radio.

RT Systems does have programming software for your radio:

The software is $25. If you need a cable, they have two different
types, one that has the large square end (USB) like some printers
have, and the other cable ends in a USB-C end. Either is $12. They
should know which type you need but I'd bet it's the same type end as
the ones that are used for printers, not USB-C.

RT Systems is known for good customer support.

I believe all this is going to do for you is allow you to set up the
memories.

This next one is FREE and I believe has radio control built in, too.
you should be able to program memories and control all sorts of things
on your radio.

Your radio is listed:

Re: Chirp with Retevis RT95

Not sure, but I believe I had the channel width or step size wrong. Or maybe the mode. After some messing around for awhile, I got it to work. So far works great. Thanks!

Re: Chirp with Retevis RT95

The Retevis RT95 is not under development. If there is a bug or missing feature a ticket can be opened and it will be looked at.
?
If you are getting a "some memories are incompatible with this radio" message, then some are incompatible. Sounds like you might be trying to import from repeaterbook so something similar. If you are trying to import a frequency that is identified as a digital mode repeater, then it will receive this message. If it is out of band, it will receive this message.
?
Without knowing what you are trying to enter, it is difficult to troubleshoot any further.

Re: Chirp with Retevis RT95

Name? (please),

I'm mentioning things that might have been overlooked here, just in
case.

Did you put the radio in programming mode first? I don't know the
setting for that radio, but there should be a setting for that unless
it's automatic when you hook up a cable to the radio.

Did you first download the database FROM the radio? That sets up the
file structure correctly so the radio will recognize it. After you do
this, you make your additions or changes then upload to the radio.

Some radios require the volume control to be wide open or open enough
so the signals can pass through the audio circuit. Not all radios do
this.

Is the driver for the cable installed and recognized by Windows,
Linux, etc.?

Are you selecting the correct COM port for the operation?

And anything else that I might have missed here:

Assuming that you have the correct cable, and the cable driver
installed, you do need to select the correct COM port in CHIRP if
you're using CHIRP to program the radio (some claim that the Baofeng
software is very poorly made and not worth using).

Icom R8600. ?

Hello,

Can program work with an Icom R8600 ??

It's not on list, but it seems quite a few Icom
radios are on it, some with "similar" architecture ?

Not necessarily an "illegal cloned chip". As the Prolific company deems any of their chips EOL (End-Of-Life), they drop support for it in their driver. This affects all chips of that series, genuine or not. For example the EOL PL2303HX support was removed over a decade ago. Recently with the release of the v3.8.40.0 driver support for the EOL PL2303TA chip was removed. To support a Prolific chip out of the box with this driver or later requires the presence of the PL2303GS chip.
?
Baofeng has started to manufacture cables with the WCH CH3440 chip. Since it is not a Prolific type chip, it does not have the issue of dropped support. Unfortunately, most of the time when purchasing a "Baofeng" labeled programming cable, unless specifically stated in the listing, you will not know which chip it is manufactured with.
?
My recommendation for those purchasing their first programming cable is to avoid any where the vendor does not specify in the listing which chip is used. If it doesn't say, keep looking. Programming cables with FTDI chips are almost always mention in the listing it has an FTDI chip which is the reason that they are so highly recommended.

Problem programming setting on Baofeng UV-5

Hello, all,

I was tasked with programming 10 Baofeng UV-5 radios, fresh out of the
box from the factory. Initially, I had no problems programming all 10
with a custom list from my club.

However, I wanted to change the settings of one, to put an owner's name
in the welcome message fields. On other radios, I was able to make this
change by downloading the radio, clicking on Settings (as opposed to
Memories), then Other Settings and editing the Power-On Message 1 and 2
fields. This is using version daily-20210618 of chirp on a Ubuntu
22.04.4 system.

On just one of the ten radios, when I download the radio and click
Settings, I just see a blank dark screen. There seems to be an outline
of a button where the words "Basic Settings" should be, but no text
shows up anywhere on the screen. Clicking in this area also produces no
action or response.

I've tried factory resetting the radio, but this doesn't help. I know
that this worked the first time, because I programmed in the wrong
name; that's why I needed to change it.

I'm totally baffled by this. Can anyone suggest anything else I can
try? I'm going to update Chirp to the latest version tonight, and try
that tomorrow when I next have access to the radios. Anything else I
should try?

Thanks for all advice and help.

Re: FT60R doesn't connect

You should plug in your cloning cable to your computer with no connection to the radio. Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Prolific Driver which if current, ?is version 3.8.43.0. ?
?
Now remove the clonic cable from the PC and install Prolific Driver 3.2.0.0 dated July 31, 2007. The above process fixed my issue of being unable to clone the radio config.

Re: Unable to upload to UV-5R Plus #UV-5RPlus

As suggested in a previous thread on this group, I removed Prolific Driver 3.8.43.0 dated May 29, 2024 and installed Prolific Driver version 3.2..0.0 dated July 31, 2007 on ?a Windows 10 32 bit machine.
?
The CHIRP cloning procedure now functions properly. ?Yeah.

Ray, an older driver will not over right a newer driver. Windows will probably tell you that you already have a better driver installed but in actuality, it might nit be the one you need for your particular cable. You have to decide that by telling it you want to pick the driver from driver on the computer.
Go here to get more info and to download the driver I believe you need.

I need to find the old driver online and see if that will help. Can an old driver over write a newer one? Not sure about how to do that.

I'm thinking you may be confusing him by your comments. Ray W4BYG, are you sure you are using the correct connector that has 4 terminals on it and not a 3 terminal connector? This may ne a silly question but it is something to just double check.
