Taig CNC Mill motor leads to GeckoG540 Adapters
Hi all,
I have a customer who had a dead Microproto MicroMill 2000HD controller and decided to convert over to a Gecko G540 based controller, but wanted to use the Unipolar motors that came with the CNC Mill. Rather than chop off the existing DIN connectors and replace them with the DB9 connectors that the G540 needs, I made up a set of adaptor leads. I had done the same thing with my mill when the Gecko G540 was first released, but I needed to research and recollect all the information I used many years ago when I first made the leads. This time I have collated the information and done a step by step guide for building the adapter cables. I did this so that next time, I'll have the information handy, but also to have it available for others that want to make their own adapter cables. The write-up can be found here; If the link gets mangled, it is under the list of projects here; Cheers, Peter -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- eStore: Web : email : sales@... Dynamyte 2400 stepper motor failed
I have a dynamyte 2400 my X axis stepper motor just failed, (of course when i really needed to cut something) I need to find a replacement for it, i have been putting off upgrading the 3 motors and the driver, maybe its time for that. Anyway i really need to find a replacement motor for this, has anyone found a replacement? or does anyone know a site that has a big selection of stepper motors? Thanks |
Re: What is the next step?
I'm hoping that shortly I will be able to devote the time necessary in order to learn the jargon, menus to gain the knowledge needed for mach3. I have the machine Taig with the complete setup. Very nice, if I'm not out of line for saying so. Different users of different machines say that it is best to have a separate PC for the machine & one for the software, if I have that right???

There are a number of videos on youtube dealing with mach3 that look promising. Also I'm sure that Artsoft also have good videos as well as manuals. Once I can get a handle on all the nomenclature & what it means ...... To begin with the next step is to get comfortable with mach3 & wizards for process of creating a 2D engraving or simple drill circle pattern. If all goes well I have not a problem with possible purchasing a Newfangled license with the integrated wizards. Nice to know that the Forum Family is here to provide direction ..... even for an older citizen.? Right now need to build that second PC. Thanks to you and everyone that provided there insight & expertise.? PM ? There are many wizards in Mach3. Many were user contributed and each one is stand alone- it does only one job. There is a set called the Newfangled Suite, or the AddOns for Mach3. These are an integrated set of wizards that can be used to create one job composed of many steps. These are also supported (by me) but they have a license key and do cost extra. Thre are also several other handy wizards that are part of the Newfangled license. You buy the license for $50 from teh mahsupport.com web site. When youopen the wizard list in mach3 you wil see a coloum for author. If it says Newfangled they are supports and licensed. If it has a person name they are unsupported contributions. ron ginger > Posted by:pmark1@... peppermark1 |

The link & posting is encouraging. Thanks for taking the time to reply. PM

There are some demo programs included in Mach3. The Road runner has
many examples on YouTube. Mach3 also has wizards for some common
things, like bolt circles. If you don't have it, I suggest you download the Mach3 manual. It can answer most all of your questions. This is the perfect time to be starting in CAD/CAM. It has been a struggle in the past, but today there is Fusion 360, a state of the art 3d modeling program with CAM included. And it's free, unless you make $100k per year with it. There are many tutorials online, probably most on YouTube. I have no affiliation with them, just a happy user. I prefer it to PT Creo (Pro-E), and I think it rivals Solidworks in modeling, plus SW has no built in CAM, although there are some free plugins for 2.5 D CAM. On 2/15/2016 9:36 PM,

Re: What is the next step?
That's sounds like the way to the next step. I'll see if I can manage the wizards in mach3 as you alluded to. Need to take the time to learn how these things work together. Sounds like everything I will need to formulate a simple circle hole pattern is all available in some of the wizards. Not sure what you mean by pree the enter key for it to stick. Thanks for the note Dan. Your link will be helpful. PM? ?

By filling out the information and then creating the G code you will be able to see how things work and go together. As an example try the hole pattern wizard. Just remember that after you enter a value in the wizard you must pree the enter key for it to stick. ? ? Dan Mauch 22th Anniversary in CNC www.camtronics-cnc.com dmauch@... Re: What is the next step?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI was an apprentice machinist in 1961 working in a Naval Shipyards machine shop when I saw my first cnc machine thaw as controlled by punch tape. It was machining a large condenser tube plate with hundreds of holes. ?I remember saying to myself that one of these day I¡¯m going to have one of those babies in my garage! I also remember as an apprentice they were teaching all of the apprentices binary math. What pissed me off was that a guy by the last name of ?White use to look over my should are copy my answers. Later on he got a promotion to work in the NC tape office where they programmed the machines. ? ? Dan Mauch 22th Anniversary in CNC www.camtronics-cnc.com dmauch@... Re: What is the next step?
Hi Dan: ???? Congrats on 22 years!!? I started in a point to point NC programming class in 1962 (Punched tape). I missed a couple years do to a car accident so I have been around NC & CNC for over 51 years. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????
