removing tri-lobed plastic cover from secondary 3
Hi guys- have a post 2008 C14 with the tri-lobed rotating plastic alignment screw cover and just replaced the terrible phillips screws with Bob's knobs (actually the allen screws on the older ones were the best) the cover interferes with getting your fingers around the knobs. How to remove it? I thought it would just pop off but nooooo. Thanks Charles

Celestron reducer lens .7X for EDGEHD 1400 2
Hi, I just happened to hear a clanking sound from the reducer. Opening the metal cover I realized the sound came from a front element glass on a rear cell side because the retention ring was loose. I tightened the ring using an adjustable pin spanner and confirmed the sound was gone. With that, is collimation adjustment required to gain the original optical performance? Thanks, Yasushi

This is my first Jupiter of this apparition. I finally had good seeing and decided to try my old roof crushed C14 instead of my new HD version, which frankly has inferior optics. http://www.bcastropics.com/images/view/687 Brian

NGC 1931
I took this photo over the holidays. It was taken from my pasture which is 20 miles from downtown Atlanta. It was taken with a Celestron 11" EdgeHD at its native FL of 2790mm. NGC1931 NGC1931 NGC1931 taken 12-29-16. This is a colorful nebula in the constellation of Auriga. It was taken with an 11" Celestron EdgeHD mounted on an Astro-Physics... images of the moon taken on August 8, 2015 with the C14 3
Dear All, Here are some lunar images which have been waiting for processing on my hard driver for more than one year... They were taken on August 8, 2015 with the Celestron 14, a Basler 1920-155 camera and an Atmospheric Dispersion Corrector (ADC). Here is a mosaic centered on Copernicus : http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/moon/closeup/Copernic-C14-B1920-red-8Aug2015-3h40mnUT-450f.jpg The region of Pitatus with rima Hesodius. Hints of the thin rima inside rima Hesodius can be seen : http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/moon/closeup/Hesodius_C14-B1920-red-8Aug2015-3h46mnUT-450f.jpg Clavius crater with low sun elevation : http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/moon/closeup/Clavius_C14-B1920-red-8Aug2015-3h42mnUT-450f.jpg Best regards Christian Viladrich

Moon's crater 4
I just posted in the photos section a typical image I take of the moon from my backyard. This was taken 2 days ago in 22f weather with frost all over tube and corrector. I do not have dew heaters and was wondering what is going on . The image looks soft without much detail. I'm not sure if the problem is the seeing conditions, mount , or camera.?? I am using an old Neximage 5 Planetary camera I have had for the past 5 years and will only record at 20 fps even at 640 x 480 res. I tried a higher res. and the image would just freeze up so not sure what is going on with that. The laptop is a new Dell intel icore 7 with 16 GB RAM. My mount is a Losmandy G11 Gemini II Mount.

Some lunar images taken with the C14 last Saturday 13
Dear All, It has been a very long time since my last image of the Moon. Last Saturday, the weather conditions were very favourable with a strong thermal inversion (7¡ãC at 1500 m and -3¡ãC at 300 m), so I took the chance, pack everything in the car and get to my "summer observation site", which is usually close in winter because of too much snow. Here are some first images with some nice riles seen with low incident light. http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/moon/closeup/Doppelmayer-C14-B1920-red-10dec2016-23h02munUT-f450.jpg http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/moon/closeup/Gassendi-C14-B1920-red-10dec2016-450f-mosa.jpg http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/moon/closeup/Schickard-C14-B1920-red-10dec2016-20-54UT-450f.jpg http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/moon/closeup/Aristarque_C14-B1920-red-12dec2016-21h13mnUT-f450.jpg http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/moon/closeup/Delisle2-C14-B1920-red-10dec2016-21h39mnUT-f450.jpg http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/moon/closeup/Anaximenes-C14-B1920-red-12dec2016-21h34mnUT-f450.jpg More to come ... Advice on adjusting corrector plate please 2
I have recently attempted to precisely center my corrector plate based on issues brought up discussing HyperStar alignment. I used a Hotech advanced alignment tool. I noted that my secondary shadow is just slightly out of alignment...perhaps on the order of 1/100". I am not too concerned with that but I was in a position to correct it. I loosened the front "holder" and loosened the 4 corrector adjustment "nuts". I tightened one of the adjustment nuts that would move the corrector plate in the direction it needed to go. It seemed to reach the corrector plate but would not budge it with a modest amount of pressure. I was unwilling to apply any more pressure and tightened everything back to where it was. Question: In the experience of someone who has been able to adjust the corrector plate, does it need to break free of some sort of glue or binding material? Is there a way to gently free it? At this point with only 1/100" error, I will not further attempt to move it. But it would be nice to know the answers the the above questions.

Odd shape stars. Sometimes! 15
I have this problem, I'm trying to fight off for while now. I am imaging with EdgeHD 14" using x0.7 reducer. Camera is Atik 460EXM. The stars can become misshapen during the course of the same night, different from frame to frame. Those stars are always in the left upper corner or generally on the left side of a frame. I'm attaching two frames. First Lum 1x1 bin (10 min), second - Blue 2x2 bin (5min). You can see the effect on the second one. The first, even though is twice as long does not suffer from it: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/C14_EdgeHD/photos/photostream/lightbox/64026602?orderBy=mtime&sortOrder=desc&photoFilter=ALL# https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/C14_EdgeHD/photos/photostream/lightbox/64026602?orderBy=mtime&sortOrder=desc&photoFilter=ALL# The back focus distance to the camera is pretty close to optional and guiding is good. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Ian

C14 HD 3
Would like to join to discuss how I can fine tune my C14 HD. In particular, how to ensure that my secondary is aligned on the optical axis. Thanks in advance

How many turns of the focus knob? 19
Does someone know how many turns of the focus knob there are between the f10 and f7 settings? I received a new C11 Edge, and also bought the 0.7 focal reducer. I can achieve focus at f10, but not f7. I have the camera spaced at 146mm back focus. Starting from an in focus position at f10, then changing to f7, I get 7.5 full CCW turns before the mirror stops fully forward. I suspect there should be more. I have to move the camera forward about 8mm to achieve focus. That puts my back focus at 138mm, instead of the recommended 146mm. Celestron says the variation from 146mm should not exceed +/- 0.5mm, I'm off by 8.0 Another clue... I've read somewhere that there are about 39-40 turns of the focus knob between the mirror fully forward and back. I only get about 30. What do others get? I suspect I have either a short baffle tube, or too long of a mirror slide tube, Or something Thanks Keith.

Getting an SCT painted 2
I have an older c8 I would like to get it painted white. As I recall, someone was actually offering this as a service for a while, but I have no recollection of how to find him. No, I'm not going to get the C14 repainted. I have done a lot of custom stuff to the interior and don't want to be bothered taking it all out. But the c8 could look pretty spiffy. Greg N

Disassembly of a C11 or C14 EdgeHD 10
I'm interested in fussing with the lenses in the baffle. I want to know whether anyone has figured out, is there any special trick to corrector plate removal and replacement for the EdgeHD C11 or C14 that is different from the standard versions. Greg N

Mars - 6-22-16 4
This was probably the best data I have been able to get this apparition. 36 degrees is as high as Mars gets for my location: http://www.bcastropics.com/images/view/686 Brian

C14 with a Orion HD-MX110 3
So is this a good combination within that price range? I currently am using a Losmandy G11 Gemini II Mount with the high torque new motors and have no problems slewing around all over the place with the C14; but maybe in the future might get back into imaging. All I have on the mount is a Telrad finder and a heavy 21mm Ethos with a Maxbright diagnol and having amazing views. Maybe I should just stick with visual. Don Curry

Guide scope (cross post) 11
For those of you who have doubts about guide scopes for imaging I've uploaded some images taken using a C14 at f5.5, a 105mm guide scope and a SBIG ST8 all mounted on an AP 1200 mount. The FWHM of most of my images averages 1.67-2.11 using 5 minute exposures. They can be seen at flickr.com./photos/boshar Let me know if you have problems with flickr... Bob
