Raduino, powered by a Teensy 3.2. #ubitx #bitx40

HI Group.
So my other order of RaduinoI2C boards is due for delivery in the next 2 days, But I am already thinking of the NEXT thing...

I was pondering, there is a really neat DSP based on the Teensy3.2. So I was thinking again, of making a new Raduino board that uses the Teensy and the SI5351 breakout, again an easy solder job.
Direct plug in replacement as well as I2C capabilities...

Question to those in the know, will the Arduino Nano sketch run on a Teensy 3.2?

Thoughts?

I've coded for the Teensy 3.2 using the Arduino IDE, basic stuff works but?
not all the libraries are ported.? I did successfully have it speak I2C.
Something like interrupts for a shaft encoder might need some hacks.?
But generally, Arduino code should just work after changing pin numbers.

Same pin numbers...

Paul Stoffregen, the creator of the Teensy family, is also a top-notch programmer. He has written optimized encoder routines for the Teensy and they work well. They can be download here:

Not every library that's available for the Nano works with the Teensy family. For example, other than Paul's 2.8" touch screen display, we're having a hard time finding display libraries that work with larger TS displays. Fortunately, it's not too expensive to try and determine if thins work. With standard LCD displays, I'd be very surprised if it didn't work.

Nick,

Is the blue pill an option for what you are planning - they are way less expensive. ?Less than $3 delivered versus approx. $50 aud (with delivery to vk that is).

Looks brilliant, but you might have trouble selling Raduino replacement boards from your first order now!? Please change my order over to 1 of each of the vanilla and Teensy varieties.

Did you check that you have reserved ports? for audio capture and? audio output?? I suspect that A8 and A9 are suitable, but I haven't done the research.? It is a pity that a Teensy 3.5 can't fit on that Raduino sized board, as that would give a ton more ports!?? I have a Teensy 3.6 in the workshop waiting for playing, but ubitx.net is keeping me rather busy.? Of course the 3.3v ports will limit its utility in the BITx series radios.

Unless there is some compelling reason to use the Teensy, I would go with the Blue pill also on the grounds of cost alone. Or mini MEGA.

Glenn
(another VK where the Teensy is very expensive)

hear hear! Postage is a large component of the price we have to pay but not so with the pills of any colour.

? Honestly, it's great to see people thinking outside the box.? Coming up with all sorts of options for people to use their favorite microcontroller.?? That's what is great about the Bitx and uBitx.?? It sure has got a lot of people active in all areas.? It's interesting to me as I've been into electronics, programming, and microcontrollers.? I'm just very new to RF.?? Getting to have it all together is really cool.?

I look at it that the Arduino is an "easy" way to get the job done. It doesn't mean it's the best, but things like a Teensy and a Blue Pill can take a bit more time to get working the right way. Although, they might open the door to new features or solve old problems.

That's my $.02

Postage from the US to down here in Oz is now unbelievably expensive compared with what the rates were a few years ago. And we also face the current exchange rate plus the money changers margin. By contrast, the Chinese suppliers often work in Australian currency and free postage. I am sorry guys, but that makes it hard for US suppliers to compete. An item on eBay costing USD10.00 may cost an extra USD50.00 to get it here.

A 15kHz DSP IF will be fantastic .... no need for a separate CW crystal filter, get a notch filter, noise reduction, variable brick wall bandpass, etc.

We will end up converting this uBITX in to an SDR by the end of the day...

The days are quite a bit longer down there this time of year.
Apparently.

I've run the Teensy 3.2 and the STM32 blue pill both under the Arduino IDE,
Vanilla sketches work fine though not all libraries developed for 8 bit ATMega's will port easily.
Paul has made sure the Teensy 3.2 is drop dead easy to get going under Arduino.

The $2 blue pill is a little bit more troublesome to get started with.
For example, there are three fundamentally different ways to download a sketch,
and different web tutorials might be using any one of the three without much explanation.
And no one place gave enough information to actually get it going, had to glean
what was needed from multiple websites.?

Jerry,
?If you haven't already take a jump over to forum.? Great bunch and do about everything imaginable with the STM32 devices.? If you ever have questions they can definitely help.?
