Re: SBitxV2 #0089 Kernel panic¡
Seems to work with the manually created/downloaded SD card after a power cycle/reboot. Receive works as does the microphone with good SSB power output. But I have the same problem on CW that I have before with identically downloaded and installed SD cards on my sBitx V1: the key works with T/R delay. But no side tone¡ªonly silence, until the delay ends and the receiver noise returns after the CW delay. Drive=100.

SBitxV2 #0089 Kernel panic¡
This is with the SD card right out of the box with my own Raspberry Pi4.
I made a copy (64GB) SDCard and put it in my sBitx V1 with the same result, with a different Raspberry Pi 4. please see the screen shot. I then used a third SD card using the downloaded sbitx.img and did a fit pull and followed all the instructions in install.txt on the GitHub site, which booted but running the sbitx program from ./sbitx gave no audio and the second screenshot with the totally yellow waterfall. suggestions? Wes has recently put back all the online articles at his site . Each one is a gem. There are many investigations that he did for bitx series of radios. The termination insensitive amplifier, the audio TIA, and the bandpas filter made with pvc pipes (yes!) were all the challenges that were noted in the bitx. Highlight of my amatuer radio life was to have met and stayed with Wes for a day a few years ago. I met with all my heros, who sat around one table. I might as well have had dinner with the beatles, pink floyd and bhimsen joshi together. That evening was documented by Wes at? - f On Wed, Apr 26, 2023, 8:57 AM <chuck@...> wrote: Wes Hayward has a current webpage: |

Jim, What power supply are you using? Looks like the radio is on transmit continuously. Is the mic or key plugged in? I just caught a bug from your video. The pitch control is not showing the audio tone's value in? Hz. It should have said 500 Hz instead, it is showing only Hz. - f On Wed, Apr 26, 2023, 5:28 AM Petr Ourednik <indians@...> wrote:

SBITX V2 #5 on air test
#sBitx
Hi all, The goal was to test receiver, sensitivity, filters, TX a bit, keying on CW and basic settings.? Very first QSO was made CW with VU2TMP¡hi. Is the V2 setup in factory done to mandatory contact his motherhip at first¡? ? I put together some first observation notes from that first trial on the air and I will post this summary later.? Short vid from that test is here: |
Re: Sbitx v2 rx
HF propagation conditions were in fact lousy yesterday - due to solar flares.
If you want to try something - you could connect your antenna through a small value capacitor like a .01 uF to either side of C212. This will bypass the bandpass filters and the TR Switch. If the MicroSD card from your working V1 is not allowing your V2 to work just as well, it makes something in the hardware suspect. If you have a magnifying glass, recommend carefully inspecting the solder joints on the board - looking for cracks, and pads that didn't get soldered. If you hear signals fine when bypassing the bandpass filters and TR Switch, then that will give you a more specific area to look for problems. SBITXV2 Serial number 31 arrived today, and even worked for a little bit¡.but not now!

I was pretty excited this morning when the DHL person brought my package. ?Opened the box and inspected everything, added PowerPole to the power pigtail, attached an antenna, and away I went.
Haven¡¯t transmitted yet, but receiving on 40 meters, playing with the CW decoder in the rig. ?Between the time I spent setting things I up and just walking around the radio¡¯s software, the rig was on about an hour or so. As I mentioned, it was receiving 40 meter CW signals nicely, then it went silent. ?There was no display and no audio, and the power supply voltage dropped to about 10 volts, and the current jumped up to about 7 or 8 amps! I am not sure this is how it¡¯s supposed to operate? Looking for suggestions on what to de next.. 73 Jim K8JK |
SBITX #50 arrived today and a config.txt suggestion.
Fitted the RPi 4 and it powered on and worked straight away - having backed up the sdcard first.
Well packaged for delivery. Further testing will have to wait until Friday. One observation. I know that pins 27 and 28 (also known as pins ID_SD & ID_SC) are frequently marked as 'Do not use' because they are used for auto configuration of Pi 'HAT's by the RPi firmware. There is a documented settings in 'config.txt' that prevents the firmware from using them. These are disable_poe_fan = 1 and force_eeprom_read = 0 This make these i2C pins available for use, plus setting these flags means the system boots slightly faster. |
Re: Need Help Installing Sbitx v2.0 Software
Robert,
No, that section explains what the software is doing. Looking again at my color coding, it does not make sense.? ?Let me try to explain. The first part of step 5 is editing the file?/etc/pulse/client.conf by adding the line?autospawn = no at the end of the file.? To do that, you enter the following command in a window that you open by clicking on the terminal icon in the taskbar at the top of the desktop before starting the SBitx program: sudo nano /etc/pulse/client.conf The second part of the step is a way to test the sound system.? You can enter the command: sudo modprobe snd-aloop enable=1,1,1 index=1,2,3?? To test the command and it will work until you reboot or power cycle the Raspberry Pi.? To make that command run every time you start or reboot, add it to the file??/etc/rc.local?. You do this by editing the file using the command: sudo nano /etc/rc.local? And adding the line sudo modprobe snd-aloop enable=1,1,1?index=1,2,3?? The blue highlighted lines above are commands you type into a Terminal Window you start on the Raspberry Pi without starting the Sbitx program.? The green highlights are either the data to add to the file or the file name you are editing. Are you able to open the terminal window and enter the commands? Are you able to use the nano editor? Here is a link to an explanation of how to use nano: or If you are having difficulties with the above, you may want to wait until Ashhar Farhan posts the updated image for the v2 and use a new microSD card with that image in your Sbitx.? That is where my v1 or Sbitx-DE is right now.? I did get it to run the v2 code, but I have some glitches.? I am waiting for the new image to see if it is hardware or software. 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: SBitx logging issues
It means, you open the terminal and type the following: cd sbitx ./update ./cleanup.sh And the logger will work - farhan On Tue, Apr 25, 2023 at 9:36?PM John K4WCL <kf4wcl@...> wrote:

Re: Need Help Installing Sbitx v2.0 Software
Evan The sections I was specifically was talking about is a little lower in step #5.?"SBITX Audio? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?WSJT-X Audio" and?¡°hw:1,0 -> Line out ----> hw:1,1 Mic In / Capture¡± were the two sections I meant. I just keep on thinking that the way Ashhar specifically separated that section, it looks like you should place this on the command line. Am I wrong? Take a look at that section. Doesn¡¯t it appear that he meant to place this on the command line?

Re: sBitx need legacy software a bit longer
Ok, I now have my DE running with a git pull and both the original gui, also the we based gui which I¡¯m learnining. Everything works including voice modulation and two-tone, but there¡¯s no carrier output on CW. The key works¡ªthe yellow line jumps and drops down after the delay but there¡¯s no widening of the yellow line and no side tone. Receive is perfect. Suggestions?
my v2 should arrive tomorrow, BTW. Jack N6LN |
Re: Sbitx v2 rx
Juan - what happens if you swap MicroSD cards between your V1 and V2? Does the receive issue stay with the V2 or move over to the V1? 73, Steve, N3SB? On Tue, Apr 25, 2023, 12:29 PM WP3DN <3voltios@...> wrote: If gain is at 100. Very strong signals sound ok with the bandwith at 0/3000hz. |
