An Apology and clarification
#ubitx
Lawrence Macionski
Yesterday I made comment in another topic. I have discovered that some people have construed that it requires delicate and extensive soldering skills requiring "Geezer Goggles"? that will dissuade many from actually undertaking the build.
That is furthest from the truth!!! --For that I apologize. I am sure most hams can tackle the build without any problem at all. Rather- it is I-- that needs help soldering; as my eye site is not that of when I was 18 or even 55.? FOR ME - magnification is a necessary tool for INSPECTION of solder joints and such. The recommendation of the "Geezer Goggles" is not to burn your nose with a soldering iron as focal length is 2 inches approx. but INSPECTION of the job after taking care to do a quality soldering job in the first place.. Please do not think I indicated the build required superman skills and vision with complexity requiring a EE degree from MIT or dexterity of a Swiss watchmaker. Again I apologize in turning a report of a quality product you will be proud to own and use, into a scare you'll burn your nose off, etc. Apologetically, Larry W8LM ARRL Life Member - Licensed 368 DOG years. |

Group Policy
Periodically it becomes necessary to restate the policy and intent of discussion groups, including this group.? The purpose and intent of this group is exchange of information and ideas relative to BITX design, construction, modifications, availability, troubleshooting, problems, and upgrades. Please bear in mind that this is a large International group, with members that include a wide range of locations, backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures and sensitivities.? From time to time an individual will post off-topic information that is related to ham radio in its several forms.? Normally this is tolerated because it may be educational or interesting to some members the group.? At times some individuals post purely commercial advertisements that have no relationship to Ham radio or BITX.? These advertisements are not desirable and can end up being purged from such posts.? If such action persists the user can be placed on moderation and his/her posts edited to remove the undesirable content.? In persistent cases the offending member can be removed from the group, or banned from .? Your cooperation toward keeping the group focused on its intent is appreciated.? Thanks, Arv - MODERATOR |

Re: Alternate pop fix...
Michael,
It would if I were using CW and sidetone.? Remember my last line on eclectic choices... >> Most of what I am doing?are to suit my wishes eclectic as they may be.<<< I do what I did for my application.? If you do it the other way it should allow sidetone. My build excludes support for CW, completely.? I rarely use it and I have several QRP CW transceivers [love my 1W] that are optimum for the mode and far less battery hungry. Since I wish to have 10M I've planed a bandpass filter for the band (extra switching).? I do not need or use wide tuning so there is a band change button that takes me to the last frequency in a given band and the band list is 80/40/20/10M because for portable ops those are more useful and I have many monobanders, Argonaut 505, and a FT817.? The menu system is out the door and there are separate buttons for?band select, VFO, Split enable, fast tune, RX agc, TX alc, and so on.? Eclectic choices but what I favor?as its a modders delight radio. Allison |

I gotta admit I respond to someone else's post without paying much attention to the subject line. It's like lining up 20 people and have the first whisper some information to the second person, and so on down the line. If you ask the 20th person the content of the message, it bears little resemblance to the original message. Same thing happens here, resulting in "message drift". I don't know, Jim. If someone hijacked your ad for your board, it at least gives the ad more longevity than it might otherwise have. Could be a heads-you-win, tails-I-lose message drift. Jack, W8TEE

Firmware CEC 1.08 from KD8CEC
Hello all,
I use the Software cec 1.08 Version from KD8CEC for my BiTx. It is a very good software and the Manager is also very good, but I will modifie for a two band project (6m and 4m) with the same first and second IF. 6Meter(50 to51 MHz) works, but 4m (70 to 71MHz) works not, i receive a warnig from Compiler "C:\Users\N500_RA\Desktop\ubitx-1.08\ubitx_20\ubitx_20.ino:1026:54: warning: large integer implicitly truncated to unsigned type [-Woverflow]" ?????? "hamBandRange[1][0] = 70000; hamBandRange[1][1] = 71000; " please can you help Reiner DL4SXS |

, here are possible photos for rotary encoder and electret mic for easy conceptualization. Regards MVS Sarma ? Is that the electret mic? If not what is it? I do have a small rectangular piece with a knob on top and pins on the bottom, which I assume is the tuning encoder. |

Re: The BITeensio board is here.

Gentlemen,
Out of consideration for the original intent of my BITeensio thread, would you please take this microscope and magnification discussion to a new thread?? The original intent was to announce the availability of the BITeensio board, not a discussion of magnifiers and microscopes. Thanks very much, Jim Sheldon, W0EB PS, WHY is it that everyone never seems to start a new thread on things like this rather than clutter up the original and make it so difficult for those who want to read the original thread but cant find it due to all the garbage posted by others? Come on people,? wise up. |

Bill & Mike--- the mic looks much like a pencil -eraser end with 2 solder blobs on one end, black felt on the other.. That's the end you talk into..
The encoder is less than a postage stamp square, with a knob that rotates on top.. solder? pins on the bottom.. The BITX40 uses a 10K pot for tuning...not an encoder. Larry W8LM ARRL Life member - Licensed 368 DOG years.. |

Has anyone tried this type of scope: (eBay 352344602558)? For $60, I'd be very interested if it works. Jack, W8TEE

To my dear XYL's chagrin, I have just purchased a stereo AmScope SE400-X microscope with fixed 5x or 10x magnifications (depending upon the eyepice selected).? However it provides a stereo view of the pcb with great clarity.? I understand that freight to CONUS is free. Usual disclaimers. 73 all, Kevin VK3DAP? / ZL2DAP |
