Re: LA4425a Audio power IC
Hi Roxie,

I have used the LA4425 AF amp in a home-brew transceiver, not the uBITX. It's a very simple part to use and seems to work very well. Very few parts required around it. Just being cautious I fed mine via a low value dropping resistor and 220uF each end.? What is interesting is that the TDA2003 chip has the same pin-out, but uses more parts around it. (refer to data sheets for both devices)? The lead pitch is slightly different but both should fit. On? my PCB below I had both parts allowed for though as you can see by the empty row of holes for the TDA2003.. Glenn vk3pe On Mon, Jun 18, 2018 at 11:41 am, R. E. Klaus wrote:
Curious if anyone has tried the LA4425a IC for replacement of the TDA2282. The LA4425a is used by Yaesu in some of their radios and needs only 3 external components, 2 of which are already in place in the uBITX and they are good up to 16 volts. They can be bought for a little over a dollar (U.S.) from UT Source and other internet dealers. |

That definitely produces a better view of what you're doing then messing with my Banggood video microscope! I may have to build one of those myself! Jack, sorry I'm slow getting back to you on the video microscope. My bottom line opinion is that you save the $60?and put it towards something better. I bought one of these from Banggood back when it only came with a suction cup style mount. It was so unstable for taking a photo that I disassembled the unit and added an external pushbutton on a cable. Later they introduced the aluminum stand and I bought one. With that it at least made it usable.? I found that there didn't seem to be any difference in the resolution settings from 5mp down to 1.3mp photos and if I tried to take photos in the 5mp setting that about half the time the unit would freeze and I had to hit the reset button. So I just left it in 1.3mp. So strike one against it, better to take photos with my cellphone! Next the display screen, it's contrasty, poor color saturation and low resolution. So you might use this for some inspection work but I sure wouldn't use it for actual solder work. Strike two, better to use a jewelers magnifying band that I've used for years. Last but not least is the integrated light, which is not bright enough to adequately illuminate the subject without being extremely close. A couple of the photos on the shared album where taken while holding a strong flashlight to the side. There's one taken with only the integrated light and another with the flashlight. I'd thought about adding side lights on both sides of the unit to get adequate balanced lighting.?? This link will take you to a shared album with some photos that hopefully give you a visual idea of what I'm talking about. Mine has firmware version 1.3 and that appears to be latest version. So nothing has been done to fix any of the flackyness. If someone else has purchased one recently and check their firmware version it would be interesting to verify. Re: Audio feedback during transmit?
#ubitx
Plenty of builders have had this problem.? ?Lots of fixes. The one I used was, I just added a small low trigger 5v relay . I put the relay trigger across the PTT of the ubitx, so when Ptt is pressed, the low level triggers the relay.?? I feed my speaker to the? normally closed contacts so when the relay is triggered, it opens the Speaker path and connects the path to a 10 ohm resistor to gnd Result: no Sound coming from external speaker. Re: KD8CEC - Nextion Display - IAN questions
Gary I'm sorry I could not answer your inquiry quickly.I was pretty busy for a few days work. Fortunately, Mike and Joe answered. In fact, Mike or Joe will be better at Nextion LCD than me. For reference, I use a basic LCD (without Enhanced). Because the price is cheap. And recently I found a really cheap LCD and bought it. (Less than $ 12) ,?But it was TJC, not Nextion LCD :) The firmware will be released as soon as the test is over Ian KD8CEC 2018-06-19 7:02 GMT+09:00 Gary Shriver <gshriver@...>: any word on when 1.09 is going to be ready to download?? ? |
Re: Homebrew from scratch

I have thought of a modular approach too...
Having each major section on a stack-able board of its own,? This will allow new PA board to be easily swapped in/out. Ideas on where to split the boards? 1: Arduino/ SI5153/ LCD board /Voltage Reg. 2: Mixers, (Close to board 1 to reduce signal path lengths, or move SI5153 to mixer board and feed I2C bus in) 3: Audio Amp/AGC/CW Filters 4: PA/ LPF/ SWR bridge. A common edge connector for RX/TX power and ground and then other connectors as required per stage. the footprint could be 1/4 or 1/3 the size of current board but 4 times "fatter", ie the height of the 20x2 or NTX 2.4/2.8 LCD.... uBitx^3? Re: KD8CEC - Nextion Display - IAN questions
Gary, Here some info : The battery is not required but if one is installed it keeps the settings of the RTC going even when power is disconnected. The battery is cr1220 When running the editor or installing the
ubtix_28_E.tft
file you choose the one that describes your board.
Support for the 3.2 and 3.2E - Allen, KN4UND? has done some mods and up-scaled the screens to support 3.2? ?- looks great Release should be soon --- but only Ian knows when.. ..Joe VE1BWV On Mon, Jun 18, 2018 at 5:49 PM Mike Woods <mhwoods@...> wrote:

C4 on my Raduino board was damaged
bsheldon
?Hello, I have a question for the smd experts out there.
I received my ubitx today and upon inspection found that?C4 on my Raduino board was wiped out. The solder pads look ok.? The schematic shows .1 uF, they look to be size 1205. I have some .1uF 0808 size that are smaller but look they would just bridge the pads. Is this ok or should i just get some in the correct size?? Brad AB8NO |

Oh yeah. Thats great. The modular design seems to be the way to go. It would be great if you could send me the files at woolfbrebner@.... I'd like to look at them. Thanks!?

I've got several Harbor Freight meters here, nice to have them within reach in the vehicle, around ham gear, at the off grid power system, to give to people having trouble with their electrical appliances, ...? ? They are usually about as accurate as any other meter. They are cheap, sometimes free.? And cheaply made. The switches can wear out with use. Feed the mA or Ohms settings a few amps, it will fail and read incorrectly. I've had several fail for various reasons. I also have a decent meter with a few more features. It does have better protection, is auto-ranging, has a beeper, backlight, measures capacitance, looks cool. But for basic stuff, the HF meters work just as well. Glad that helped you.? I don't know much about the program, but compaired yours to my ubitx memory manager.? I am using the AVC board that Kees is shipping with the purple wire (think that is the color)? hooked to it where the jumper pins are.? I think that I measured about 4 volts max out of that junction. Think I had a setting of about 217 in the highest box and less in the others.? I so have test gear and set it so that 50 uV was all the bars before the + started.? That did not seem to work too well for me, so I just started putting in numbers to what looked good to me. 73 de ku4pt On Mon, Jun 18, 2018 at 6:37 PM, Sascha Bohnet | DL5SMB via Groups.Io <saschabohnet@...> wrote: Thanks Ralph, that was the push into the right direction. Thanks Ralph, that was the push into the right direction. The "ST" vanished and I got a single dot on a powerful AM broadcasting station.
Thank you . I have to fiddle a bit around with the values and probably the wiring. Seems that though i put S1 to value 1 no ham radio station could reach that - only commercial radio. This needs further investigation. |
