Assistance required for new UBitx V6 purchaser please,

30/6/22

To :- bitx 20 user group? + others who have recently forwarded? me correspondence on other ubix issues.??

Assistance required for new & fairly "green"??UBitx? V6? purchaser please,

I have assembled full kit? but need the following answered please :-?
?( advise if connections same as for the next model up specified as per data from interim manual?
just located below >>? ??

..................................................................................................................................................

1. There was no instructions for V 6? & I can't figure out correct polarity for the 3 to 5 Amp? DC supply please.
?
? ? ? ? ? ( I have nearly been caught out with popular Guitar Sound effect units that have
? ? ? ? ? ? centre pin negative instead of usual centre pin polarity +? ,?
? ? ? ? ? ? so don't want to destroy my unit on first power-up !!!

2. there? were extra wire plug connectors linked to fly leads , but no explanation as to use.
I have connected up ones listed to be affixed , but not these extras as pictured below?
I have seen the corresponding? plug in points on main circuit board but don't know what they are for as no explanation came with kit for these.

3. There was also a white plastic tool that looks a bit like a small ball-point pen but without any ink tube ?
? ? ?but there again there were no details as to what it is for .

?& 4? no statement nor diagram specifying which of front plug -in connectors did what on V6? ???
? ? ? ? ?Is it the same as for next model up the?Sbitx v1.01 ref. as listed below >>

Any help in explaining the supply polarity ,socket layout & use of these extras in kit would be appreciated.?

Please send info to my email address below, so I can get started using the ubix? V 6 properly .

Very many thanks in anticipation ,? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ( refer picture &?Sbitx v1.01 details below >>>> )

Data just released below is for next model up in sophistication

ie for model Sbitx v1.01 =

IMPORTANT: Before powering on, it is vital to check the polarity of the power pin.
The provided DC jack should have the center pin connected to +ve and the outer barrel connected to the Ground.

There are three phono jacks on the front panel:

1. The left jack is for the microphone. The TIP is microphone, RING is PTT and the SLEEVE is GND. This arrangement allows you to use regular microphones.

2. The middle jack is for the earphones/headphones. The standard headphones or earphones that come with mobile phones should work.

3. The right side jack is for the key/keyer. The TIP is Dot, the RING is Dash and the SLEEVE is the Ground. You can also use the microphone¡¯s PTT as a straight key. The setting for the kind of key plugged in is described in the Operating CW Section.

Plug in the headphones into the middle jack on the front-panel. The standard Phone/PC handsets and headphones will work well. Choose a headphone that is comfortable for long hours of working. The demands on the headphones in a contest or weak signal work are very different from those of a HiFi music listening for pleasure.

The straight key should be plugged in to the right most jack on the front-panel. The wiring for the straight key is : (Tip : Key switch; Ring: Nothing; Sleeve: Ground) [Drawing]

You can switch to using an Iambic keyer. To do this, attach a keyboard and type:

\cwinput keyer [Enter]

The keyer is wired as follows:

(Tip: Dash, Ring: Dot, Sleeve: Ground)

Possibly if it's a very short feed to the efhw that could be the issue. The ubitx can be more sensitive than many rigs. So try various things, including earth connection if it can be short compared to a quarter wave length. I concur RF is escaping antenna or feedline, and getting back onto something attached to the raduino.?

Re: UBITX v6 spazzes out when TX on 40m LSB

Tim,

Yes, on the coax.? Where to place the ferrite on the coax depends on whether you have a tuner connected to the antenna.? Then the ferrite needs to be after the tuner.? If it is a resonate end-fed, I would put it where the coax enters the house and then another at the uBitx.

These are suggestions.

I fixed it with snap-on ferrites (I did not want to take down the coax to make a true chock).? To improve the RF elimination, I also added small ferrites to the power, mic, and key inputs.

As in any shack, a good earth ground is needed.

I have since acquired 4 more uBitx that includes 3 v6 radios.? None have the problem since I added the ferrites and ground.

?Thanks for the input Evan, do you put the ferrites on the coax? In this case my antenna is an end fed dipole.

Re: uBitx V6 random tuning Jump

Hi Ashok,

I use the N8ME with the VU3GAP mods.? It is the one that I recommend for the v6 uBitx.
/g/BITX20/files/uBITX_6_N8ME_2_VU3GAO_Mods.zip

As Gary said, multiple updates can be used on the stock firmware, with the N8ME being the most popular.?

If my memory serves, Reed's firmware was designed initially to fix CW issues and then for blind Ham use.? Some options can be selected at compile-time, as all do not fit in the Nano.?

You can search for upgrades in the messages section of this reflector if you do not like the choices in Gary's linked post.? All are free and open source.

UBITX v6 spazzes out when TX on 40m LSB

My antenna is tuned to a 1.2:1 SWR match. When I key down and try to talk the radio opens the menu and spazzes out.

I¡¯m running KD8CEC firmware and a nextion 2.8 display on a ubitx v6

Re: uBitx V6 random tuning Jump

Welcome Ashok,
That's an artifact of the momentum code, settings for the encoder in the factory firmware.
Folks have enhanced the firmware for the Nano to overcome some of the operational shortcomings for their needs.
Open source code, you can make changes.

I use Reed's firmware, have yet to try Mark's.
(Mark's with the enhancements seems to be the promoted firmware as of late)

uBitx V6 random tuning Jump

Hi all,

I just powered up my shiny new uBitx V6 and immediately noticed that the tuning knob randomly jumps frequency that i cannot guess. Its like a race car. It jumps hundredths of KHz or sometimes MHz in just half rotation if I am slightly unmindful. If I want to control the tuning then I have to rotate real dead slow. Then only it tunes by 5 khz steps. ? I don't know if everyone is used to it and I am just new to the tuning method or its a real problem.

Thanks
Ashok VU3KFK

It works with the V5, although the wiring has to be modified a bit (Keyer an PTT pins). It's simple.

the board has all the SMD components soldered at the factory. Only the connectors and the 7805 regulator need to be soldered.

Re: uBitX problem

Hi Vic,
1400 pF is very high gate cap for the uBITX application.?
Find legit IRF510s from a trusted source.
I didn't research the BPF suffix, but a _quick_ scan of the linked datasheet passes muster.? i.e. nothing flagged.
Please check in more detail.

No info found on the N suffix part. I can only speculate that it's a completely different die.? Higher Cap, lower Vt.
We know that there are parts like this on the world wide market.
