Re: ubitx v6 board only

My V6 project is on hold for the moment but it was my understanding that the V6 BFO was pretty well set from the go.? I did try to set it once but I couldn't get my laptop to respond.? will be back to work on it in a couple weeks, then we'll see.? Still waiting for my case to arrive from China.....

Re: Raduino Problem

Vic thanks for the reply.? That did it for me. i am not sure but I do not remember seeing that in the instructions.

Anyhow, I am going to try to finish getting the radio on the air today.

TFT Touch screen VFO/BFO for uBitx with easy to operate display and improved functionality : for the experimenter HAM (ver 5)

[Released on the occasion of World Amateur Radio Day 2020 - 18h April]

The display of our earlier version of TFT based VFO/BFO controller became a bit congested due to number of features available on one single small display.? The current?version is a major rewrite which provides multiple display screens and larger touch buttons suitable for operation with finger, much like a smartphone. We have numbered it as Version 5.

The version 5 uses same hardware as earlier Ver 3 and only the Arduino program needs to be uploaded. If you have implemented earlier version and made changes to display section of program to suit your display, set BFOs and Offsets for your rig, please note them down as this reloading may require you to tune BFOs, adjust band offsets etc.

Pictures of ver 5 are shown below.

?
Main Screen contains all basic operating buttons for selecting VFO, Frequency of? operation, Side-band selection, selection of Ham Band,? Steps size for varying frequency, exchange between VFO and Memory channel and a S-meter.
?

?The two BFOs in uBitx are tuned on this screen while listening to a station, for best clear sound. Each band can have different frequency offset which could be set here.

The type of PTT , automatic PTT time- out, S-meter sensitivity and Touch screen sensitivity are managed from this screen. Split mode operation can also be initiated here. All parameters which have been changed are saved to EEPROM using the Save button.

For the experimenter HAM the change is always fun. To take care of accidental or intentional changes this new facility of backing up the parameters,? and restoring again from the backup are added to this version 5. The dump facility makes it easy to store the parameters and all stored memory channels to external device through a Serial terminal, is also added in this version. Resetting memory to initial values is another extended facility. Non of these button ask for confirmation of action, be careful in Restoring and Resetting memory.

Documentation:
Operation Manual,? Arduino Program and PCB details are available from github repository ().

All comments and suggestions are welcome for improving this in all possible ways. ( Please send it on vu2spf? AT gmail? DOT com) . This is an effort to share our joy of creation and we expect that some features may not be perfect yet. Any help in detecting those gotchas will be greatly appreciated.

Details of Hardware and earlier versions are on this blog in earlier posts.

Re: Raduino Problem

Press the microphone PTT and it will automatically switch back to SSB. The switch between CW and SSB is automatic depending on whether the PTT or a CW key is used with Allard's excellent software.

2 meter mobile rig

Hello,

A few people expressed that I should get a vhf rig before completing my bitx. I¡¯m here to say I just purchased a mobile yeasu rig. It puts out 80 watts. Now if it¡¯s ok,I¡¯ll get a tuner etc for my Hf rig.

Good morning to all, and yes Mark I removed every part from the mike, made a new board and have tryed to use several electreds. The chineese wires is a thing. But when sceeming in the mike, my swr meter shows some movement. Cause of making an whole new dummy load and less time, i diddn't had time to do more tryouts. The tip from Jerry is maybe also a goodone. I bought an akai mike with an litle amp inside but? haven't got time to test it...spring is here and so sitting and doing many things out of the house. Have to paint all, 3 floors, so, in the time between i have to drive some trains so short of time. Regards

Re: ubitx v6 board only

in fact as far as bfo alignment is concerned, it is simpler than v5 .
?we can pre load 11.0555 and then try adjusting calibration using any known signal?

Evan likely nailed it with the need to calibrate the BFO - most of our ubtix units have been delivered it seems with the BFO way off.? This alignment is essential.?

The power supply has us a bit concerned - if you have another 12-13.8 volt power supply around (or even something like a medium sized gel cell battery) that might be much cleaner than an unknown switching power supply (such as made for PC use).?

Be patient to unravel your ubitx - its an amazing rig.? Your v6 actually requires less patience than our older models - but the BFO alignment matters a lot.?

Raduino Problem

Hello all.
I am having trouble getting my BITX40 to cycle between CWL, CWU, LSB and USB. The function button does select between CWL and CWU but it does?not allow me to switch from CW mode back to SSB mode. All the other functions seem to work alright.?
I am using Allard's V. 1.29 and all the suggested mods have been installeord.

What am I doing wrong or missing?

Thank you,
Jimmy,? W9JDH?

Re: Okay new quesetion #antennas #v6

Okay now I will tell a story - I first saw and used an automated VNA around 1979.? I will still a EE college student, but had a work assignment at a company then called RCA.? The VNA from a company then called HP was 2 or 3 racks full of boxes, attached to a computer.? It was revolutionary, expensive and quite rare back then.? (I remember the 8409 - this was one generation before that).? They had 2 of them and they kept them busy.?

The crew here can work with Rene to give some things to measure - actually you can start to see the effective of resistors that are not 50 ohms - as well as whatever antennas you have.? Maybe I should examine the complex impedance of my short 160m top loaded vertical, its decently matched as is and I use it on some other bands as well.? The EFHW I have works on every HF-ish band except 60 and 160m.?

enjoy your complex impedance measurements!

Re: Okay new quesetion #antennas #v6

Nano VNA is a nice tool to learn and build antennas. Comes with inbuilt battery that lasts easily for few hours. Bit delicate in build and not rugged for field use, especially if you buy the one that has boards exposed from sides and not having frame. But for a hobbyist and occasional use perfect and value for money.
Check if you see a Nano VNA-F variant which is said to be better than those tiny ones.

Re: ubitx V6 SSB Transmit Audio Distortion (voice only)

I up graded the mic that came with my V6 -- replaced tiny element, enlarged hole in front cover, removed speaker, filled with cotton balls.? Before I did this work I checked the wiring of the thing and found it to be good.? With the changes made the mic is very useable with my V6.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone (Rene?) has double-checked the wiring on these Baofeng microphones.? I think these are speaker/mics and the plugs are changed at the factory.? So I was wondering if perhaps some were wired incorrectly and the electret element is not connected correctly.? It is possible that the speaker is being hooked up instead of the microphone?? A check would be just to trace the wiring and make sure goes only to the electret element and PTT switch, and the speaker is fully disconnected.

Re: TX frequency is 1.2 kHz off #bfo #calibration #cw #v6

Thanks Jim for answer??

I tried everything? ?usb/lsb shift is too large . BFO doesnt impacts.
RIT or split mode is solution for CQ .
on the other side transcerver is very good on SSB .?
