Re: SHOULD BE REQUIRED MODS
Hi Mike, sorry to hear that. Usually one thinks to disconnect the AC and the antennas and forgets a strike may eventually come the telephone lines. I will keep that in mind too although I usually disconnect the entire station from everything. Supposed you will be able to have a clean ubitx, you would need to make or buy a clean well filtered PA, and in both cases it will cost maybe 300 bucks or more unless you already have the toroids and other parts. I have purchased used rigs for less than that. Keep in mind that some argue that it will not be a good idea to use a PA with the ubitx unless you find a way to actually measure the spurs and harmonics on the whole RF spectrum and then you are certain the whole system is complaint. While there is no clear concensus on details, there seem to be 2 key elements. First, reducing leakage around the low pass filter relays. One method is adding a set of relays on a daughter board so the input and output of a filter does not pass through the same relay. Second, added rejection at the 45 MHz filter stage, such as adding a crystal stage. In my local club we are doing a group build, and currently have supplied the materials for these mods. We should have sound data on a reproducible fix that hopefully some merchant will kit. The transmit chain isn't ideal but we don't see urgent need to repair it. Other basic mods need not be elaborate. see nd6t agc circuits for example. I also doubt this is a cheap path to an all band 50 to 100 watt rig, but perhaps a few band PA might he reasonable. I hope a reasonable HF rig opportunity comes your way. Curt |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý?Oh my, Mike!!!!? So sorry to hear about your lighning event.? ?
I suspect it woud be far cheaper and less frustrating to pick up a used icom radio to get to 100 watts.....

Is there a single source list that describes mods necessary to make Ubitx version 4 FCC legal.
Is there a single source listing of additional features that can be made for the ver 4 ubitx eg, AGC, color displays, running digital, SDR addition.,power leveling on all bands.etc. My final goal will be to add 100 W (or more) amp and want a stable rig before that happens. The reason I bought the radio is that I cannot afford to replace or repair my ICOM that took a lightning strike via telephone lines (also took out the PC, wireless modem ,dish network receiver. and auto tuner that was attached to the radio. The antennas were not connected when the strike occurred. thanks WM4MM Mike |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýForgot to answer your question. ?Yes anything using the RA8875 controller draws too much current. ?The 3.3V output from any of the Teensy MPU's is a MAX 250ma and the other chips on the board pull 50-75ma so the 230ma from the 4.3" display will exceed spec by enough to put the MPU in jeopardy. I'm looking at larger displays (would like to avoid the major surgery for a 5", but would like a bigger display than the 2.8"), and I'm seeing a 4.3" TFT with resistive touchscreen, 4-wire SPI, and RA8875 controller that draws 230ma at 3.3 Vdd. Would that still require the extensive mods that the 5" display requires? I'm willing to do it if I have to.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell, the BITeensio isn't offered with the finicky soldering done. ?That would make it too expensive for most people. ?Yes, there is a remote control program available on the website that interfaces to the USB port for remote control. It uses Kenwood protocol to interface with logging programs, etc. as well. ?The programmers guide is downloadable from the website. Jim On Dec 13, 2018, at 3:01 PM, David Negaard <draagen@...> wrote:

Aloha Jim,
I received my kit (realized after I ordered it that I intended to order the next step up, with the fiddly bits of soldering already done, but I'll get help locally and it will be fine), and look forward to assembling it in January. I have perused the documentation on your site, and maybe I'm just overlooking it, but can I use CAT rig control? I'm trying to visualize digital mode operation and CAT seems like the "cleanest" way to implement things like keying. Mahalo, de WH6FZA (formerly KB0PXK/GA) |

Re: PSK 31 not decoding
If you are getting a waterfall with PSK31 signals displayed, I would be a bit puzzled.? Perhaps start with digipan as it tends to be easy to get working.? Make sure you know what a PSK31 signal looks like on the waterfall.? If the emissions are something else, of course there won't be encoding.? The last version of digipan has a window for decoding all or most the signals in view.?
Since you are decoding something - one would think you have the right drivers installed.? Possibly getting the gain setting right might be an issue - but if you have a nice waterfall the gain is okay.? It should not matter what ubitx software you have installed - PSK31 is grabbing the appropriate spectrum and letting the PC do all the work.? if you have another PC with soundcard - try receiving with a simple audio cable between them to verify all is okay with the ubitx here (if you can hear PSK31 sounds likely it is okay).? As per the instructions it is not a voltage set but a current set. Look it up to confirm my memory that it is 100 mA for each transistor with no signal applied. 73, Bill KU8H On 12/13/18 9:55 AM, chuckr@... wrote:

Have you tried adjusting the contrast trimmer on the Raduino yet?I have and this works, thanks.? Should've been first on my list. Unplug the raduino and connect to your pc, if you still cant read the display there is an adjustable pot on the raduino give that a tweak to get the data on screen.?Refit the raduino and ensure you have suppy to the motherboard. When connected to my computer, I can read the display just fine.? All the raduino contacts appear to be properly fitted and there is power to the motherboard. I believe the display issue to be a red herring.? The main problem is that the "Raduino v1.27.7" screen never goes away and I don't get any reception, just a kind of "dirty" hum (for lack of better words).? No clicking when I turn the VFO, either.? The hum is affected by the volume pot. cmh |

Cellphone interference to BITX40
John Norris
I had my BITX40 spread out on a breadboard and powered up and operating.
I wanted to take a photo of it with my iphone. As I moved the iphone to within about 18 inches of the BITX40 to take a picture I started hearing?loud squealing noises from the speaker connected to the BITX40. Your smartphone may be a source of interference to your BITX. John Norris KI4UCN |
