Bitx40 and nextion displays #bitx40

Is there anyway to use nextion display with bitx40?. Point suitable firmware to support.

Re: ?BITX: Documentation

?Thanks for the documentation.? Hopefully it fills in some of the gaps I was thinking about.? I'm in the process of building mine but have stopped for a few days.? I noticed on the original it made assumptions and left out details that were made.?? I do have a suggestion though.? On the images resize them in both directions.? When you stretched them you made them wider but that distorted them.

Thanks

Re: Tool Tips -- rectangular holes

I don't have a nice graphic, but I drill a hole just inside the corner of 2 opposing corners then use a coping saw to cut just inside the outline I make on the metal surface. If needed I touch the opening up with a file.

In a recent post, looking for a 40M QRP SSB kit, Fred (K3TXW) explained, "...I have problems making a rectangular hole in a piece of aluminum of exactly the right size, with the edges exactly parallel to the edges of the case. I inevitably make the opening too big or slightly wavy. The result screams "homebrew carelessness" though I'm not careless. Maybe there is a rectangular punch or something to do this right, but I don't have such a tool; I use a set of files."

In addition to files for work on front panel fabrication, I recommend an electronics shop include:

1.? A drill press with a chuck that will accept 0.50-in.-diameter bits.? Harbor Freight sells a couple of bench-top units for under $100.? Put a magnet on the base as a place to keep the chuck wrench.? (It's usually best to clamp work to the drill press table.)? Once you have a drill press you'll find many other jobs for it.
2.? A good set of sharp drill bits.? Bits with a titanium nitride coating remain sharp for a long time.
3.? A step drill bit.? I use an Irwin Tools Unibit 3/16-Inch to 7/8-Inch Step-Drill Bit with a 3/8-Inch shank.? Great tool when you need to make larger holes for controls or to start a rectangular cutout.
4
.? An Adel-brand metal nibbler.? They show up on Ebay.? Or buy a new one at .? I've used one since I was a teenager and couldn't work on chassis or panels without it.

Lay out your hole with masking tape around the outside.? To make a rectangular hole (see attached image) I use a step bit and smaller bits to make round holes that remove a lot of metal.? Just don't get too close to the rectangle's edges.? Next I use the nibbler to remove remaining metal close to, but not at, the rectangle edges.? Finally I clamp the panel or chassis in a bench vise so an edge of the hole aligns with the top of the vise jaws.? File away any remaining metal until the edge is parallel with the vise jaws.

Re: ?BITX: Documentation

Thank you Greggory for compiling a VERY informative and easy to read document.? As a licensed amateur since age 16 (and building my first radio at age 9 - Am 68 in a few weeks time), I do not believe I fall into the 'newbies' category but nevertheless congratulate you on making ubitx_v4_minimanual_1_.pdf available for members of this group - APPRECIATED!

Karsten, I have created a mini builder's manual for the ubitx, it just basically compiles the assembly instructions and firmware functions into a pdf file for easier reading. Hopefully this helps you out a little bit. If theres any specific use case you need covered, feel free to ask me and I will do my best to add it into the pdf.

Re: PSK31 ghosts below my signal

I re-read your note, and I may have made a mistake.
I wasn't running psk when I did the carrier test.
I just pulled the pill bottle mic apart and used the PPT and? shorted the mic element to ground
Does this matter?

I know of people with scopes...I'll ask one of the technically sophisticated radio engineers (we have a few) in the local club to take a look at it. They have scopes and smarts.

Is this fixable, or just a feature of the design??

I've had good digital QSO's above 80m,
so I know it works (flaws and all...) with jt8, and all the other digital modes, for which I am VERY thankful.?
Fortunately, the digital modes are very forgiving of marginal signals....hahaha.

Dan,

Bad choice unless you plan only CW.? That design was never for SSB.

you should read the source code to figure it out

kidding... the video shows you how to use it.

Note that the ubitx has only one control that changes configuration, that push button in the encoder. Press that once, a menu comes up, use the tuning knob to select the function, then press it again. An interesting one may be labeled band, it allows you to change the MHz portion of frequency. Explore this and you should find your way in the stock firmware.

Dan.,? I would be very concerned about using it without redesign for SSB use.? That diode to? the gate of the Mosfet is designed to be pumped low and keep the gate off during part of the cycle.? This is used on class C amps to improve efficiency.? What is the positive bias for - well that is an offset.? And note that that later bias is not stabilised 5V with a resistive divider as normally used.? The use of the Qsk receive cct at RH side again indicates it is intended for class C use . I followed the link but it is presented there as just a circuit with no palaver about the design intent.? the two band RF amp that AF presented elsewhere in the blog has a lot more going for it.? ?Suggestion ; look this beast up?

FQP13N10 Single Nch Power MosFET ID 12.8A, VDS 100v TO220? ? .? It does have higher input capacitance the IRF 510 but it seems to perform well at RF.? The? current rating is twice that of the IRF510.? ?It is commonly available on EBay.

Re: PSK31 ghosts below my signal

yep. It means your audio input is putting that crud on the modulator and it's showing up on the air because of that.
Can you borrow a scope? ;)

Re: PSK31 ghosts below my signal

so I hit the PTT, counted a 3 seconds, and shorted the high side mic to ground.
Here is resultant pic.? Essentially I can't see much of a difference between the two states.
So this shows the carrier without modulation, right?? Does this point to anything I should do?

Thank you!!

Re: v4.3 Firmware

Thanks for assistance, Jack Purdum. I found one of your previous answers here on the group, where you explain how to put together those 7 files from the source code. The problem is solved.?

A very quick test for you to try. Try keying your radio and then *short*
the audio input. It won't hurt a thing but if the crud goes away
then you know it's something you are injecting on the audio line.
The psk signal of course will also disapear and it won't make any
difference to the suppressed carrier.

I'll read up and follow instructions for alignment and do the SSB receiver test.

Would the relay/inductor replacements help me here? Or are these different issues?
No. That's a different problem.

Thanks so much as always.

When you go to the directory where the IDE is install, what directories to you see? Also, copy the first three or four error messages and post them here. "Tons of errors" doesn't tell me much.

Re: v4.3 Firmware

Isolate the first error message and work through resolving that.? Once that is solved
many of the subsequent errors should go away.?
