Re: uBitX CW Sidetone Volume

Try a 10K or 1K preset (center and one end) parallel with C252,
this should work with 10K but if not try a 1K preset.

Re: SolderSmoke Podcast #207 uBITX 15 Mtrs, 60 mtrs, homebrew, antennas, Cubesats

Curt,

The relays mod work very well. Change only KT 1/2/3 . The filter mod looses power so skip and reduce your drive
and that will keep the spurs down.

Re: Instructions on assembling VU3SUA kit

John

we are doing a group build here - using that case.? yes it is a bit of a snipe hunt!? do use the paper instructions, and visit ubitx.com which is managed by VU3SUA - he has some additional pictures there, and an assembly video there by another ham.?

a few key tips --
remove the front panel from the case.? trace color of wires using those pictures.? the bi-color LED is soldered to spots on the BOTTOM of the circuit board - I may have found this detail on line.? that front panel board with the 3 audio connectors is the main hub for case I/O.? that rear panel board with the digital I/O isn't needed right away (mine isn't installed yet).?

I am using the 4 pin connector for my microphone (I recycled an old speaker mike I had for now).?

Been using the ubitx for only a few days.? Worked several stations in CQWW.? the CW works once you get used to it - the straight key function is plug-and-play, paddle operation is not - it requires some extra series resistors to recognize dit and dah.?

email me direct if you get in a bind - I was beside myself a couple times at least trying to figure things out.? oh yes - it will require some not-so-hard mods to clean up the spurious.? success has been demonstrated by one of our club members.?

I am using my ubitx stock except for adding a NESCAF external audio filter to help with receiving.? Given how easily stations are copying me on SSB, the audio must be effective.?

You can also use variable capacitors¡ or better yet varactor diodes to change the bandwidth electrically a bit:

I needed 9 crystals for a lattice filter to match within 50 hz so I bought the "grab bag" from china .? 50 crystals for about 6 bucks.
I built the test oscillator from Doug Demaws, QST article and found two sets of 9 within 50 hz.
The filter seems to work well.? It's a little tight if anything.

Re: ubitx keyer

Luigi

I am a new ubitx user, and if you are using the stock firmware code that is initially delivered, maybe I know what you are referring to. There is a long initial delay transitioning to cw transmit when using a straight key. I have gotten used to it. Problem I have is if I place a long pause between characters,? it throws me off when the relay status comes out of transmit. while this delay has programable settings, it was even worse when I selected the shorter option. Sure I will try alternative firmware, but this likely can't offset the hardware.

Instructions on assembling VU3SUA kit

I'm working on assembling/integrating the uBitX into this enclosure. I've searched with Dr Google but can only find a video that describes assembly and interconnect of the various sub boards that come with this nice enclosure.

Is there a more step by step guide or schematics to be had? If so , my google Fu must be faulty

Re: QSX 10W HF Linear PA kit

I use a indelible marker to color the leads.

You can use an inductance meter to check, the higher one will be 3T ..

Re: Dummy Load Resistors

Mouser has 2,837 of the 1k 3W Xicon in stock, item number 283-1.0K-RC

They don't really have to be 1k, there are plenty of other choices.
For example, get the same part at 1.2 k, item 283-1.2K-RC
and use 1200/50 = 24 of them in parallel instead of 20.

If all you ever expect to feed it is 18 watts or so, maybe use 300/50 = 6 of? ?283-300-RC
You wouldn't even need that oil bath, just good air flow.

Other values that might? be of interest:? 51? 100 150 200 300 510 750

All:

A number of you have written me privately saying you're having trouble finding the 1K 3W resistors for the dummy load project (Nov., 2018, QST). If you don't have access to QST, you can download the assembly manual from our site:

Evidently, some eBay suppliers say they have them, but the order quickly becomes a back order. Check before you order. Someone just wrote to me and said Arrow carries them:

but they are saying a December delivery. I bought mine from Rich at communications-lab.com:

You may want to write first, as he was moving his business to HI when we last spoke. Also, if you know that you're always going to be using QRP power levels, you could cut back on the wattage and that should make them easier to find (and cheaper).

Re: Nextion Basic 3.2 Display will not update #ubitx

Vince Vielhaber

I'm replying to an old post, much of it was about SD cards with the Nextion displays (for those that use email, not the web).?

I got a 4.3" Nextion Enhanced display for a non-bitx project and tried HC and HC-I SD cards to get it to load the firmware.? All of the attempts were made formatting the cards as VFAT32 from Linux, all were dismal failures.

What I finally had to do was format one in my wife's laptop (long format) to get it to recognize it as VFAT32.? Also what I did to avoid having to format it like that again was to use dd and make an image of the blank, formatted card.

The first one I tried to use was just an HC.? No go. The display still didn't like it. The second one was an HC-I card.? That one worked.? Also that one was formatted using the above mentioned image.?

I hope this helps someone else that may encounter similar problems.
