Re: PTT Question

Good idea!

One of those little max9814 could be put in many mic housings using the
+5v!

Re: uBitx sound

Everyone has different needs. I personally like the bandwidth as it
stands. On 80m nets in a crowded band, the narrow bandwidth is a big
help in isolating net members from others only 2khz away. I know others
say my audio sounds "constricted" on transmit but it's not a lot
different than what many DX'ers use for maximum "punch" in a pile up,
again a big help on a net frequency on a crowded 80m band.

I though by now someone may have tried to broaden the filter. I have
not had time to,but hope to lower the capacitors in the filter some
to see if it helps.

The small electric microphones seem not to be all that good either
from several I tried. I switched to a Shure amplified mic and get
much better audio reports from several I talk to on an 80 meter
sched. I do feed it through an amplifier for about 150 watts to
bring the signal up to what they are used to hearing me at.

Yes..!!

I had been juggling around that one. Stock 12MHz xtals have an Lm around 17mH and appeared bit narrow with 100pf caps, I was not happy with the round number IF's in uBitx tried some micro controller 11.0592 ones all in HC49S package now they were way too off with Lm at 24.5nH decent bandwidth was predicted by Dishal with 56pf caps and a sweep on SNA looked very decent but since Dishal does not considers actual? Q of xtals the smoother we make the pass band the worse is the skirt of filter. Farhan often mentioned this so still working around that one to arrive at a compromise.

Re: New VK4PLN Audio Daughter Board + BCI

The PGA-103 is nice utility amp but too much gain for uBitx.? It needs more like a grounded gate Jfet
(10db is enough).? A wideband high gain without band limiting(tuned) will cause all sorts of havoc.

Re: boosting the power on 28 MHz #ubitx

I use the best tool I have for spotting 10 and 6M activity.

My radios.? There is always one on 10M and 6M turned on.
The advantage of building monoband radios they are opimized for the band and?
I have one for each of my favorite bands.? That and it leaves my mainline radios open
(tentec Eagle for HF and Tentec 6n2 for 6m and 2m).?

That Au and Eskip event didn't make it here, not yet.

Re: Power supply question

Assuming there is nothing wrong with the rigs the excess current the supply can put out will not be used and you are safe.??

It is just like in your house, the AC outlet can put out lots of current, but each device will only take what is needed as long as the voltage is in the required range.

I often run my ubitx off a 50 amp Astron supply.

Hi George,

If you don't know (remember) and you ask a question then it isn't a dumb question :)

Your power supply does not 'force' 20 amps. It tries to 'force' 13.8 volts and it will until it gets to somewhere around 20 Amps *if* the load (your radio) demands. So the short answer is that your radio will only take the current it needs as long as it is not more than that 20 Amps the power supply can deliver. Your 20 Amp supply will be loafing along powering your happy ubitx.

I have a tendency to over fuse. One on the hot one on the ground. Will the BITX40 be happy with 13.8 volts?

Re: Power supply question

Should work fine.
I'd add a 3 Amp fuse inline on the +12v from power supply? to Bitx40
to keep explosions down to a minimum.

Re: Power supply question

Your powersupply will only supply the amount of current the radio needs.

So for your powersupply , you will have no problem and it will only be loaded with a few amps , depending if your in rx or tx mode.

Re: Noob Mic question #ubitx-help

Vince Vielhaber

I have several mics with goosenecks. On all of them the shield is connected to the mic base body. Since the gooseneck is metal like the base, it's connected to the shield as well.

That said, on at least one of my mics (perhaps more) the shield for the mic is not connected to the shield coming into the base from the radio. In fact my Kenwood TS-430 will produce a hum on my audio if the mic ground is connected to the radio ground. You don't have to worry about that on a Bitx series radio tho.
